Is Scott Harrison Fit To Hold A License At the Moment?
Is Scott Harrison Fit To Hold A License At the Moment?
Leaving aside his past, he did the crime, served his time etc is Harrison in a fit state mentally or physically to hold a BBBoC license?
He is an ex alcoholic who seems have relapsed, or is this just a one off?
Also his behavior was terrible, crisps aside, urinating in the window in front of everyone, acting very aggressively to passers by, he is supposed to be a pro fighter in training.
Also could we witness another Oliver McCall like breakdown in the ring?
All the signs are there, is it time for Robert Smith to withdraw his license until he can prove himself to be in a fit state?

Re: Is Scott Harrison Fit To Hold A License At the Moment?
Lucky for Smith and the rest of the inept crazy gang that is the BBBofC, this question is academic due to Harrisons current promotional/legal dispute it looks as though he won't be fighting any time soon anyway so they will not be forced into making some kind of decision.Coco wrote:is it time for Robert Smith to withdraw his license until he can prove himself to be in a fit state?

cant really say but to be honest what hes done this time if true isnt exactly a major crime
hes made himself look stupid but without seeing him on a daily basis i couldnt say no he shouldnt have one,
if hes in the gym daily and fit for a fight then dont see why not
Needs to get a solid date and by sounds of it his fight was getting scrapped and this has maybe set him back a bit.

We're talking about someone with a history of what we shall euphemistically refer to as "issues" with substance abuse though mate. In cases of heavy, prolonged substance abuse I think the onus is on that person to get their shit together to the point where they're not going off the rails when things go wrong. Saying "Oh but they need this or that, otherwise look what will happen" is not actually helping that person, because life goes wrong, & if you're still doing the do instead of dealing with your shit, then your shit's not right, imo.Gazmac81 wrote:cant really say but to be honest what hes done this time if true isnt exactly a major crime

Having a fight cancelled is not a valid excuse to go on a pissed-up Tesco's rampage, is what I'm getting at, especially if you've got previous & that led to you getting locked up in the first place. That's hardly putting out a great big neon sign saying "Stable Scott, Reformed Character!", you know what I mean?

I think you take his license away it takes away any focus left in his life then its game over.

I appreciate that, but what happens when a fight gets cancelled? Or he gets injured?
Do you just sit there with a mop & a bucket or what?
Re: Is Scott Harrison Fit To Hold A License At the Moment?
If you are missing for seven years you can be legally declared dead. If you take up top level boxing again after seven years out of action you
could be killed.
could be killed.
Re: Is Scott Harrison Fit To Hold A License At the Moment?
If you want a bad pun 'he is drinking in the last chance saloon'
I'm sure he needs the money but I think if he should keep his head down, leave the booze/coke alone and just concentrate on the boxing, it's hardly a lot to ask!!
This should apply to any novice boxer let alone someone with world title pretentions.
Boxing is a stressful game at the best of times, if Harrison can't even deal with the stress of the contract dispute, I have a real fear for his mental health when it comes to the fighting.
Also professional fighters, esp high profile ones, have a responsibility to set a good example to others

Having a licence didn't prevent him from getting into trouble in the first place did it?G0mez wrote:I think you take his license away it takes away any focus left in his life then its game over.

Re: Is Scott Harrison Fit To Hold A License At the Moment?
It was predictable - that's the sad thing for me.
Whilst I appreciate he is a grown man, he clearly needs looking after properly, and needs to get the right treatment.
It's come at a bad time for Scott as well because the BBB of C is under the microscope following the German antics.
The do gooders wopuld have a field day if anything went wrong in the ring with Scott so for that reason you'd have to say yes, the Board would be bettter insisting he gets proper help and treatment before fighting again.

I think it would be a good idea to have Scott Harrison evaluated psychologically to see if he is still mentally fit to continue boxing under BBBofC rules and then we would get our answer and then get him the support he might need.

Piece in the Sunday Mail today saying Alex Morrison is managing and Promoting Harrison now. He says he might be fighting in 5 weeks time, there's a show in Paisley roundabout then dunno if that's the one he has in mind. I'd be very suprised if that Harrison has a licence by then.

Ex-world boxing champion Scott Harrison arrested over alleged domestic assault
May 9 2012 By Paul O'Hare, dailyrecord.co.uk
FORMER world champion boxer Scott Harrison has been arrested over an alleged domestic assault.
He was detained and due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday after the alleged incident but was released prior to any appearance.
It was reported on Monday that Harrison’s fiancée Stacey Gardner, 29, vowed to stand by him despite their rocky relationship.
But it has emerged he was already in custody for a domestic assault. Stacey was reported saying: “We have had our arguments because the pressure can sometimes get to you.
“But I have never thought of leaving him. Scott and I just knock our heads together, talk it out and start again.”
Police said: “We can confirm a 34-year-old man was arrested and detained in police custody inconnection with an alleged domestic assault which occurred in a house in Cambuslang on Sunday, May 6.”
A Crown Office spokeswoman said a 34-year-old man “was liberated pending further investigation and did not appear in court”.

Yeah, looks like he assaulted his woman and not for the first time. He's blowing his chances. He needs to get back in that ring and put his anger into boxing.

I want to see Scott fight again. His past just makes him more colourfull, and a interesting fighter/character IMO. Everyone likes a story, a struggle, just like Dicky Ekland, Mike Tyson ect.

Scots boxing champion Scott Harrison faces more Spanish jail time
May 20 2012 Exclusive by Gerard Couzens, Sunday Mail
Scott Harrison
SHAMED boxing champ Scott Harrison has been ordered to return to Spain for a new assault trial that could see him jailed for another six years.
The fighter has been told to appear in a Costa del Sol court in September to face claims he attacked three men at a brothel.
Prosecutors want him jailed for two years for each of the three counts of assault he is charged with.
A conviction would automatically mean more prison time as he already has a criminal record in Spain. Harrison, 34, served two-and-a-half years for assaulting two men, including a police officer.
He returned to Scotland after being released last September.
A second custodial sentence in Spain would wreck his hopes of a triumphant return to boxing.
The ex-WBO featherweight champ is due to make his comeback against French-Algerian Brahim Bariz at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow on June 29 after seven years out of the ring.
Three judges will decide whether to jail Harrison after a one-day trial in Malaga on September 26.
The prosecution witnesses will include a brothel owner who claims the boxer and two pals attacked him and two customers in a bust-up five years ago.
One of the alleged victims committed suicide after the fight at Oxigeno, a short drive from Harrison’s repossessed former home in Alhaurin el Grande, near Malaga.
State prosecutors say Harrison and fellow Scots David and Edward McGill smashed Spaniard Salvador Jimenez on the head with an ashtray after being thrown out of the brothel on May 20, 2007.
An assault outside is alleged to have taken place as Salvador’s friend Rafael Sainz tried to get him to hospital.
Rafael, 31, jumped off a roof terrace at his home in 2009 after spiraling into depression, which pals blame on the attack.
Salvador received treatment for injuries to his neck, head, knees and wrist. Brothel owner Francisco Gonzalez lost a tooth.
Prosecutors also want Harrison and his two pals to pay £8500 in compensation to their alleged victims if convicted.
He spent two days in custody earlier this month in Glasgow after being arrested over claims he assaulted fiancee Stacey Gardner, 29, at their home.
But Harrison says he has banished the drink, drug and depression demons that have plagued him in recent years.
Earlier this month, he said: “Scott Harrison is going to be back – with a bang.”

Harrison seems to spend a lot of time in brothels!
