Funny questions from mates about boxing
Has anybody experienced any funny questions from non-boxing fan mates which sound ridiculous to you as a boxing fan? If so, please share.
1)Why did Prince Naseem never fight Lennox Lewis?
2) My middle-aged female hairdresser when I told I her I would be watching the boxing (Hatton/Mayweather) that weekend. "Oh, Ricky Hutton is fighting isn't he?"
3) My mates when I told them I was going to watch Haye v Klitschko in Hamburg: "You'll be absolutely gutted that you spent all that money if Haye knocks out Klitschko in the first round."
4) Klitschko isn't in the heavyweight division, he's in the superheavyweight division.

When i was on my way back from the Hatton Pacquiao fight the American papers in the airport had full page spreads of Hatton starfished on the canvas and the stories under them started with "Rocky Hatton suffered a........."Britannian Stallion wrote:"Oh, Ricky Hutton is fighting isn't he?"

I remember not too long ago a Sky Sports News presenter asking George Groves how he would feel about a fight against Amir Khan.
Re: Funny questions from mates about boxing
Had hundreds of silly questions from my non-boxing fan mates, like "How many rounds do cruiserweights fight for?" and "Do they have their belts on when they're boxing?" and "How hard do the heavyweights punch?".
But my favorite non-boxing-fan-question-moment was when my dad picked up a Pink Floyd CD I had lying around and said "Pink Floyd? I thought he was a boxer?"
It turned out he thought Pink Floyd was Floyd Patterson's nickname
My old man obviously did not know too much about music either.

I remember that, and have to turn off every time he's on since. He is one cheesy man!Britannian Stallion wrote:I remember not too long ago a Sky Sports News presenter asking George Groves how he would feel about a fight against Amir Khan.

Someone once asked me why there wasn't just one world champion in each weight division so we knew unequivocally who the best boxers were. The idiot.

Two good ones from recently....
When it was in the paper I was fighting again I chatted to my mate and he was completely serious.....
'So are you going to sort khan out this time then, he avoided you last time'.....
Yes mate then I'm going to smash mayweather and pacquiao.
And the other day....
Tyson only beat Bruno the first time because they were mates and Bruno was too nice to finish him off when he rocked him.....
I was like 'that's why I don't discuss boxing with non boxing people'

Re: Funny questions from mates about boxing
The sad thing is, the most stupid question I get asked is who is THE World champion at xxxxxxx weight?
Re: Funny questions from mates about boxing
Get some odd statements from older fight fans, who generally know their stuff and full of good info - but sometimes get confused.
Until I was about 15 - I was utterly convinced that Tommy Farr fought Joe Louis twice.... first time he was robbed blind, second time he was bashed about (but went the distance) - so many people told me that.
Even now, many many fight fans in Wales think Farr was robbed against Louis.

Overheard two fellas talking at a football match after Andy Lee beat Brian Vera.
- I see Andy Lee knocked yer man Vera out last night. (He didn't)
- Aye, some win. Vera was the champion wasn't he? (He wasn't)
- Yeah, Lee's fighting that lad Mayfeather next. (He wasn't/who is Mayfeather?)
- Yeah, he'll batter him. He's shite. (where to start?)

Re: Funny questions from mates about boxing
Who won the game?
Re: Funny questions from mates about boxing
If I am watching boxing with a friend who doesnt follow boxing, the type of logic in the conversation might revolve around, because boxer A cannot fight like an explosive KO artist like Mike Tyson in his heyday then he is categorically shite.

Or Mike Tyson would destroy [insert boxers name]

Re: Funny questions from mates about boxing
There are also a lot of people who aren't aware of the fact that there are two Klitschkos. That's a discussion I try to avoid.
My grandad always insists that Marciano is the best boxer ever because he was never beaten. He'll tell you you're talking bollocks and don't know a thing about boxing if you try to contradict him.
My girlfriend's father (bless him, he is German and he was only trying to engage me on a topic he knew I was interested in) said that Klitschko was the favourite for the fight against Haye because, despite the two being the same size, Haye isn't a big puncher and is slower than Klitschko.
I remember a post on here a while back as well when somebody said they had been sat at the bar in a pub when some bloke said that Wladimir Klitschko had lost to Lennox Lewis. When the poster in question tried to correct this bloke, the bloke insisted that he knew his stuff and that it was definitely Wladimir who had boxed against Lewis.

My wife once said `Why is Lennox Lewis fighting David Tuey,Shouldnt Lennox fight someone his own height
Re: Funny questions from mates about boxing
I've banned my lass from watching boxing with me because she comes out with some of the most ridiculous statements ever. Only recently she came out with this load of rubbish, "If Nathan Cleverly is the world champion, why is he fighting a full time nurse from America? Surely he should be fighting a top ranked contender or even a champion of another organisation in a unification bout."
At this stage I told her to go and do the ironing. Pffft, what do women know about sport?!
