Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
Interesting points regarding the arguments against a democratically elected Board, very good interview Ben
Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
Thanks all. I can't fault Simon Block for being generous with his time in answering the questions put forward and he provided some welcome insight which I appreciated. The consensus view seems to be that he did a good job as General Secretary. My only gripe with his reign is that he didn't do more to kick the likes of the WBU and WBF into touch.

Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
What are your thoughts on the British board of control?????,Do we need changes,????We had license holders on area councils the board put a stop to that?,Small hall promoters get no help the board only seem to be interested in the bigger shows that generate Tv money? Is it time for change.

OK I'll bite...I was expressing a commonly held belief...Inside track please...dondada wrote:What - the WBU etc stance?jizzle wrote:hands were legally tied by restraint of trade...

Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
Aye, I'm sick of hearing it, commonly held or not. It's a load of bollocks - no inside track needed. The BBBoC told them to do one recently and, as Ben says, should have said this much earlier.jizzle wrote:OK I'll bite...I was expressing a commonly held belief...Inside track please...dondada wrote:What - the WBU etc stance?jizzle wrote:hands were legally tied by restraint of trade...

You should read Simon Block's comments (in Ben Carey's interview) in regards to this. He clearly explained the process and the reasoning behind this.FIGHTFANs wrote:We had license holders on area councils the board put a stop to that?
This is totally incorrect. The Board has a strong presence at all small hall shows with qualified doctors conducting medicals, paramadics, ambulance on site, stewards, inspectors, referees, etc.FIGHTFANs wrote:Small hall promoters get no help the board only seem to be interested in the bigger shows that generate Tv money? Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
The BBof C are fornicating joke.
It may end up being a godsend.
Like most British sporting controlling bodies they look after their own interest first are full of politicians and sod the consequences, they are toothless and pointless imo. Time to look at restructuring boxing and this could be a start.
They did it recently in Rugby high time for boxing also.
Get some real men in there who know the sport and know how it runs not political figureh eads that posture and tut dissapporvingly
fack em get rid. If they were a business they woudl have gone bust ages ago, hang on they nearly did and who bailed em out? Old ginger nuts.
How the worm has turned. Not often i support FW but good on him.
The fight itself is a bit of a circus but this may be a catalyst to have a revolution maybe one that boxing needs.

Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
To be fair numerous BBBofC officials/stewards are ex boxers, managers, trainers etc. The chief executive (aka General Secretary) Robert Smith was a professional boxer himself and boxed against Lloyd Honeyghan (You can see him in action here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB0MchAuwpg)J wrote:Get some real men in there who know the sport and know how it runs not political figureh eads that posture and tut dissapporvingly
There is no doubt that the board has countless individuals who know the sport inside out.
Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
fair comment but then they need to do more then ?
british sports governing bodies generally suck.

Why do I need to be 'comprehensive and informed' about a load of unsubstantiated shite?jizzle wrote:Thanks for your comprehensive and informed rebuttaldondada wrote: Aye, I'm sick of hearing it, commonly held or not. You're the one making the statement. Back it up, then, there's a good chap.
"As things stand, we don't recognise the WBU belt and the for the moment we're not prepared to elaborate on that," said a BBBoC spokesman last September when Rogan was told the Board wasn't going to sanction his proposed fight for their trinket.
Behind this was the fact that it's so cack, different people were saying they owned the body. Someone got in touch with me about the dispute well before this but it just wasn't worth the bother looking into it.
The WBU, WBF or whoever can get people to fight for their belt in Britain - just not sanctioned by the BBBoC. And if it's a 'world' belt, surely they've got another 200+ countries to choose from.
A similar scenario. Some idiot goes up to the FA and says 'I want to start another World/FA/League Cup' and they say 'That's very interesting...but we want nothing to do with it, thank you.' It doesn't stop the idiot starting it up. How far do you think his 'restraint of trade' case would get?

Oh aye, the Board needs a big shake up, we all know that.
But this alternative? Give over.

be boring if we all agreed all the time. but im right your wrong lol...
im just up for a shake up

Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
With you on that mate. This bollocks could be a good thing if it makes the Board address some of its issues. It can't be a long term solution though.J wrote:be boring if we all agreed all the time. but im right your wrong lol...

I see in Gareth Davies' piece just published on the Telegraph website that Al Legedly has told the Board he's getting his lawyers in over their statement, specifically about licence holders and potential sanctions, etc. I'm shocked.
Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
allege and lawyers come off it, i dont believe you.

Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
Members pay for a pretty consistent presence at the shows and a fighter's safety is treated as the priority. I've not seen any small hall shows which have been overlooked or mistreated by the board.Scrap wrote:Who pays for them, not the BoardThe Law wrote:You should read Simon Block's comments (in Ben Carey's interview) in regards to this. We may get some poor decisions by refs/judges but ultimately a fighter's safety is of the utmost importance and the BBBofC is amongst the best governing bodies for safety. The BBBofC has learnt a lot over the years.
Re: Exclusive - former BBBoC Chief speaks out on Haye v Chisora
Every small hall card i've been to, the board is there, usually with five or six reps. i couldn't name them, but the faces are always there, and I have to admit, its comforting. The Law wrote:Members pay for a pretty consistent presence at the shows and a fighter's safety is treated as the priority. Yep, perhaps costs need another look at.
Small hall promoters could help themselves by making it a better night out for fans, though. I've been to loads and I don't think I've ever seen something as simple as a copied A4 sheet of paper freely available with the list of fights on and their estimated start times.
So I've seen many, many uninformed pissed off fans roll up at the start time of a show (they rarely start on time) and sit through a bill which they're not particularly interested in to see their neighbour/mate/mate's son box at 10.45 or whatever. The cost would be next to nowt and it would really help.
Or even a double-sided A4 mini-programme notes with the records, etc. I know this has f**k all to do with the topic, I'm just saying
