Foot Cramps Whilst Running

Post by jamiedavies02 »

About a mile into my runs, I start to experience cramp like symptoms in my left foot. This has only started happening in the last year or so, I'm 23 and never had any problems growing up nor have i ever broke the said foot. It also happens when I run playing football.

Im starting off at a gentle pace before stepping it up, I've tried various footwear - football boots, football trainers, normal trainers and running trainers.

Any advice/ info?

Go get an Xray to be safe, if you get an all clear, then try this. Get a rolling pin, barefooted, put Foot central on Rollingpin. Put pressure on the Pin by putting Knee central with Foot, bent so your body is behind both foot and knee. Now slowly start rolling the foot backward and fooward on the pin, it will release the Tendons and stretch the achillies. It sounds to me you have trouble with your running Gait, Id get your Hips checked out.

Massage your feet before running and make sure your salt intake is adequate. Salt deficiency is the main source of cramps.

One of the causes of cramps is lack of potassium.

Bananas are an excellent source of potassium.

I know this sounds silly, but you're not tying your laces too tightly, are you? Happened to a mate I used to play football with. They told him to tie the lace without tightening the shoe. Worked for him.

I struggle with cramps all the time on the mats, and the only cure Ive found is Organic Green Cocnut Water.

You could be onto something here, Im a bugger for tightening my shoes before endulging in sport. Also, I remember playing football a few months ago and getting this pain in my right foot to0 - which i havent had since, my shoes are especially tight when I play football.

I've ordered some cheap insoles to to see if they help any, if they do I may invest in a proper pair. I've read up and I think I overpronate when i run. Im going to try get a video of m running technique.
