Saw this article/press release on Britishboxing.net that Wayne McCullough has now become a US citizen. I have no qualms with that, as far as I am concerned he will always be Northen Irish.
Quite a lot is said in the interview, since the Larios fight he has either been "undecided" or said he will fight one last fight. Its seems clear that he wants another crack at the world title, talks about a 3rd match with Larios in Ireland and maybe a clash with Mayhar Monshippour. It sounds like he wants another run with a World title fight in Ireland.
What do you think this will do to his popularity, Anthony Hopkins certainly had a lot of criticisms in Wales when he became a US citizen (even though a few months before he put 1 million pounds in to save Snowdonia). Perhaps a fight in Ireland might not be a wise thing now.
Also, do you know if this news now means Wayne is no longer eligable to fight for the British title - I don't know the ins and out of citizenship.
Its a good read. He seems bright as a button and knows what he is doing, but I wouldn't go for a third match with Larios - Oscar learned from his first fight and will beat him clearly again, but still I wouldn't complain because 1 and 2 were both excellent contests.

Wayne has been based in the states for many years so I'm sure most of his fans are used to that by now and I have no doubt that any future fight in Ireland would be a sell out.
The US has been good to Wayne and his family, he's had a better life and earned money more than if he had stayed on this side of the pond.

Although I'm not Northern Irish, I'd have no problems with McCulloch getting US citizenship ("oh" thinks Wayne, "THAT'S alright then, as long as i've got jomo's blessing.)
The citizenship thing is more than likely down to financial/long term sense, if he's going to live there once his career ends etc. Don't think it's a reflection of him turning his back on his homeland.
Elligibility or not concerning British title fights is an interesting one Stu, although I don't think McCulloch would go for one now anyway.
He does certainly sound an intelligent man, a true warrier.
If he wants to continue, then obviously his health and safety have to come first. I think I'd only see him now try for title fights or a glamour match. Vasquez, Monishpour etc. although I'm not sure how winnable they'd be all the same. I'd hate for him to become some sort of Julius Francis who's given fights as a name with an easy win guaranteed, but I'm sure Wayne wouldn't want that anyway. Best of luck to him

McCulloughs very proud of his roots in Belfast, no matter what passport he holds he's a Shankill Road Belfast man through and through 
Does anyone know if you are you able to hold dual citizanship in the States?
Something tells me your not, I know in Canada you can.
McCulloughs been great for Boxing, fantastic to have a fighter born and breed in Belfast who has done so well. It'll be a long time before we have another one like him here.
