Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
Age aside McKart has a reasonable record. But Mundine had Trout and a world title shot for the taking. A puzzling opponent choice in my opinion.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
Interesting that our Man is going stateside to fight the 41 years young McKart. The above story has this telling bit:
Interesting thing is all McKart's 64 fights have all been in the USA. So like Mundine, he doesn't like to venture too far from home. But he has drawn our Man there, who must think he is on a good thing to resume his journey along the yellow brick road to glory. If Mundine ever wants a chance to fight the likes of Mayweather the 36 year old needs to fight more credible opponents then McKart who is coming to the end of his career.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
What happened to only fighting the best, and he only wants big names ?
Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
I was a little puzzled at Mundine saying "after this it will be dominoes" (SMH, 17/5/12).
When I was a child if dad said "it's dominoes" he meant "that's the end of it." Poor choice of words, Anthony?

McKart is a former World champion. He won the vacant WBO Superwelterweight title in 1996. Winky Wright took it off him in his first defense.rb63 wrote:What happened to only fighting the best, and he only wants big names ?

McKart is far from the worst opponent Choc has fought. But he won that WBO title 16 years ago. Too often fighters are evaluated on what they've done in the distant past not where they are at now.Brute wrote:McKart is a former World champion. Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
McKart is ranked at 14 in the Middle Weight div where Trout is ranked at 5 in the Jnr Middle Weights (USA) Who does Mundine think he kidding,He said l want to fight the best BS. ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)
Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
Who's ranking is that Colin? BoxRec have him slated at 66 while Trout is ranked at 8 for Jnr MW.
You are only ever as good as your last win in my opinion and McKart's wasn't great.
It has been interesting seeing the comments on the news stories and forums since this fight was announced. There are a lot of people saying, "Long time supporter, but can't defend your decisions anymore". I often wonder to myself how Mundine would have gone under different managment....

I was being facetious. McKart is over the hill.TrainInsane wrote:McKart is far from the worst opponent Choc has fought. But he won that WBO title 16 years ago. Well Played Sir,
Now as for this fight, please tell me its not for a world title, IBU or whatever. Please NO
Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
Neither boxer holds a 154 pound title, so not unless somebody thinks something up.
Choc was never averse to defending a minor title he did not hold, but not a "World" title.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's at 160. Surely Choc will be keen to get his hands on that UBO title.Brute wrote:Neither boxer holds a 154 pound title, so not unless somebody thinks something up.

Yeah no worries Colin. No malice intended. I just wasn't sure what ranking system you were looking at.colin russell wrote:Stinger as stated the ranking is a USA ranking.l usualy check before l post.
When I read your post and was in stealth mode so I must have skipped over the USA bit.

I don't think he is that desperate.TrainInsane wrote:Wouldn't be surprised if it's at 160. Surely Choc will be keen to get his hands on that UBO title.Brute wrote:Neither boxer holds a 154 pound title, so not unless somebody thinks something up.

McKart is over the hill but at least it ticks the American box. Over the hill or not he is an all American hero after all.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
Unless this fight is at 154 I think that it is even more irrelevant hen him fighting Green again if his goal is to get to Mayweather vs Cotto!
I think Saul Alvarez will step in the ring with Mundine before anyone else that is relevant at 154...

Oh NO!
Bronco McKart Retains UBO World Middleweight Title

Universal Boxing Organization™ World Middleweight Champion Bronco “Superman” McKart put on a fine performance Saturday night (4.28) to retain his title with a majority decision over tough challenger Jose Medina from Mexico at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.
After a competitive and close bout, the 41-year-old from Monroe, Michigan was declared a deserved winner by scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 114-114,
McKart improved his impressive professional ledger to 54-9-1 (32), while Medina, thirteen years younger at 28, lost for the first time in his last seven outings and is now a deceiving 17-10-1 (7).
After eight rounds it looked as if the fight could go either way, as both champion and challenger had their moments and not much separated the two.
But as McKart attempted to kiss Medina on the cheek at the end of the eighth, a brief scuffle ensued as Medina took offense.
The animosity appeared to inspire McKart, who stepped up the pace and pulled away by winning the last four rounds for the victory to the delight of around 4000 enthusiastic spectators. Still looking fresh after twelve rounds of boxing, McKart seemed happy with his own performance, saying:
“I knew I had to finish strong, but I have been training my whole life to go twelve rounds and that’s what I did tonight. It’s no different from the beginning of my career”.
“Toledo Fight Night” was promoted by Turner Boxing Productions in association with Knockout Entertainment and the legendary Thomas “Hitman” Hearns. Also in the arena was former World Heavyweight Champion James “Buster” Douglas, enjoying the fights from ringside

McCart isn't a draw in the USA; very few people pay attention to him anymore because he's old and shot.Roars Like Me wrote:McKart is over the hill but at least it ticks the American box. Over the hill or not he is an all American hero after all.
This joke fight won't help Mundine's career.
Re: Anthony Mundine vs Bronco McKart set for July
Given their relative rankings how will this fight impact in boxrec ratings, can anyone advise. Let's assume Mundine wins will he advance?
