Don't think there is an agenda against Burns, it's more likely the other way ( too pro Mitchell )
Kevin could be fighting king kong and some here would say the ape is running scared/has no chance!

It's as if they say that Mitchell is a world class fighter enough times they will start believing it themselves.

Im quite sure if i was defending a world title that the "emotional pressure" of my trainers comments would be the least of my worrys.

Hope this fight happens, im also glad that it isnt gonna happen on that date tho because it should never be on the undercard of Haye v Chisora.

If i was world champ i wouldnt play second fiddle
to a side show and risk my license either . Obviously
neither fighter or trainer can confirm this as the reason.
Without seriously upsetting the promoter Ricky Burns
is a quality fighter who has proved his heart as one of
a warrior im sure the fight will go ahead when it regains its
correct position at the Top of the bill on a licensed show
of its own . Burns v Mitchell is a must see fight .

As a few have mentioned, Burns fighting and beating the likes of Katsides and Martinez, the thought that he is 'afraid' of Mitchell is absurd. It really is.

Some people do have an over inflated opinion of Mitchell. Not sure if its the 'West Ham thing' or 'London thing'. Speaking as a Londoner, Burns beats him and his level, pretty routinely. Fear? Someone is 'aving a larf.

I agree with everyone else that Ricky would have no qualms about meeting anyone in the ring & that includes Mitchell. I recall him in the interview after the Moses fight saying he was off to get married then he would be straight back in the gym & ready to fight on so & so date. So why would Mr allegedly choose a date that Ricky was obviously not prepared for? Very strange.

It's followed Kevin since his amateur days. He is a good fighter but I have endured a couple of nights being told by fans of his that he will be an all time great and 3/4 weight world champion etc! Even back in the unpaid ranks people were saying he was a cert for Olympic Gold, would have smashed Khan etc. He was and is good but I have never shared that opinion.

Maybe it is the West Ham thing! Been told by a mate who supports them that the season just gone was a big one for all the championship sides because playing West Ham 'is like a cup final for them'!!! :o

Point I'm making, and said is..... Billy Nelson knew the fight wasn't going to happen before he made all the noise about how Burns was going to be too much for Mitchell, and "what happened in the spar will happen in the fight" etc....... I never stated Burns was 'scared'. I clearly stated that Burns is very good, fought top level and if this fight is not happening it wouldn't be down to Burns personally. Its Billy Nelson backing away from this fight. Look at the past comments by him regarding it, border line disrespecting an opponent for his fighter, knowing full well that its not going to happen! August? It wont even happen then and Billy knows it. So another month of hearing of what Burns will do to Mitchell, hearing about the 'spar' 'World' Champion or not, yes it is possible to feel emotional pressure. Also Burns is back from his honeymoon isn't he? That leaves two months to get ready doesn't it? Is that not enough time? This fight will never happen whether Burns has boxed 'better men' or not. Yes I agree Burns is not 'scared' of course he'll fight Mitchell. It's Billy who doesn't want it, has alot of face to lose now after his comments

Truth is nobody really knows whats going to happen to their licence or even the future of British boxing after this show so if they've backed out then fair play to them.
As a licence holder I certainly wouldn't work at the show.

Why would FW put this on the Haye show anyway? The tickets have flown out without it. It will sell well on it's own in London or Scotland and fill another date for B N.

Anyone who was at the fight night at the Gorbals would tell you that Ricky was just back from holiday and his wedding with that or him and his wife got trapped in a fake tan machine. Sure some of the Dundee lads got there picture taking with him I almost never recognised him ha

You seem to make an odd couple; you and Ricky; Billy. You've made more noise and been more disrespectful about a fellow pro in a couple of threads than Ricky has in 11 years of professional boxing (and promotions work).

The reason why this fight is not happening is because Ricky just got married and can no way make the 135lb limit for July 14th, therefore is going to fight in August.

Yes and as stated before that's why Billy made all the noise, hope the fight comes off in august and Mitchell shows him who's the number 1 in the uk !

do people honestly think Burns is running scared of Mitchell?

Vazquez, Gamboa, Abril, Rios (although hes probably done at 135) & Broner are all legitimate claimants to 135 world titles & would be real tests for Burns as i'd imagine he'd possible find himself an underdog in those fights. Mitchell is an ideal defence for Ricky, good british name & a good purse i'd imagine, and not too hard a fight, RB should be all over it.

i reckon Billy should do a weekly Thread called "Nelsons Column"

where he gives us updates off his fighters and bold predictions

it would attract alot of intresting replys

then just get the popcorn out and sit and watch the banter :box:

Nail on the head there. But they won the world cup so of course one of their fighters can dominate the world without actually proving it in the ring.... :D

As for Burns, will he really fight in August would be a really unusual time of the year to fight wouldn't it? Unless this is in preparation for an open air show in Scotland and thats the only time it might not snow :OhYes:
