Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
Seen on twitter that Berto has tested positive for a banned substance, seems Ortiz is needing a new opponent. What you guys think? A catch weight with Khan maybe? Devon Alexander?

VADA strikes again, who is next I wonder?
Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
Seems like everyone is on drugs, bad news for boxing, I think olympic style drug testing for everyone fighting for major titles, that will stop the cheats.bigB wrote:Seen on twitter that Berto has tested positive for a banned substance, seems Ortiz is needing a new opponent. I look forward to the usual excuse of 'i thought it was ok to take this' . The sport is just getting dragged into the gutter .
Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
Ortiz V Khan would be a great fight, Khan knocked him out in the ams, when they where very young, Ortiz power has increased massively since and Khan has improved greatly, what a fight.bigB wrote:Seen on twitter that Berto has tested positive for a banned substance, seems Ortiz is needing a new opponent. Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
random drug testing is catching these cheats. Wouldn't surprise me if 50% of boxers were taking PED's. We need to make it compulsory from now on.

Apparently he was working with that trustworthy chap Victor Conte, who tweeted 'Andre has admitted to taking supplements other than what I provided without my knowledge. Apparently, something was contaminated'.Old bones Ian wrote:I look forward to the usual excuse of 'i thought it was ok to take this' . The sport is just getting dragged into the gutter .
Yeah, sounds believable.
Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
A top American trainer was saying that there was so many fighters on drugs in the USA, he also said britain was the worst for it, that the testing was not good enough in britain.rapid2 wrote:random drug testing is catching these cheats. A thin dividing line between suppliments and drugs.safeerah wrote:A top American trainer was saying that there was so many fighters on drugs in the USA, he also said britain was the worst for it, that the testing was not good enough in britain.rapid2 wrote:random drug testing is catching these cheats. Which top American trainer said?

if found guilty of taking drugs you should have a lifetime ban, its not a case of running faster or jumping higher, what would happen if somebody died in the ring then the fighter that caused the death was found to be on drugs? the sport would be hard to defend, i eat well drink lots of water and have protein shakes, you dont need anything else, too many people trying to reinvent the wheel, train hard eat well and stay hydrated, job done
Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
Gutter, another fight i had been looking forward to!
Should defo have a lifetime ban associated with it otherwise ppl are gonna keep trying to get away with it.

...nobody gives a shit though. Look at how many people lined Margarito's pockets with his fights against Pac and Cotto, after he'd been caught trying to brick someone in the ring. Not to mention that the brick was already covered in blood from previous usage.
That man should have been in jail, not in a couple more PPVs.
We now have Shane Mosley and this Conte guy as the faces of the war on drugs. Do me a favour...

andy murray made an interesting point about the drugs testing on ringside, tennis playes get tested randomly around 20 times a year. How can boxing which is a combat sport have less testing?
Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
Always though Berto was one of the fighters I'd be least surprised at a positive test for.

Very simple, there is no overall governing body and tennis players compete a shitload more often than boxers.kingfinn wrote:andy murray made an interesting point about the drugs testing on ringside, tennis playes get tested randomly around 20 times a year. Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
That's why lifetime bans need to be introduced, if you know your banned for life if caught they might think twice, I've been a pro for over 5 years and I've never been tested, in football I would get tested at least 4 timed a year, the sport needs to get with the times and clean up its act, I would love random testing all year round to be introduced, it might cost a few quid but imo its just as important as brain scans and blood tests, as fighters we risk a lot and deserve to be protected against cheats that are putting our health at further risk, ban for life end of

Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
Me too. And I find it very ironic that Berto and his trainer insinuated very strongly that Ortiz was juiced for their first fight.J-C wrote:Always though Berto was one of the fighters I'd be least surprised at a positive test for.
I think with the sophisticated methods VADA are using, boxers/promoters/managers are either going to say "we know boxer x is clean so we don't need testing for our fight" rather than risk cancellations and people losing a lot of money; or there's going to be a lot of fights in Texas!!
If things carry on as they are I see a very big can of worms being opened. It will clean the sport up eventually, but there will be the potential for a lot of fights being called off.

Would also love to see this, but apparently won't happen because Khan is contracted to HBO and Ortiz is with Showtime.safeerah wrote:Ortiz V Khan would be a great fight, Khan knocked him out in the ams, when they where very young, Ortiz power has increased massively since and Khan has improved greatly, what a fight.bigB wrote:Seen on twitter that Berto has tested positive for a banned substance, seems Ortiz is needing a new opponent. Yet Mayweathers stance regarding drugs gets laughed at!!!???

Yeah like the saying goes "just because you're paranoid it doesnt mean they're not after you".Wrists wrote:Yet Mayweathers stance regarding drugs gets laughed at!!!???
Re: Berto vs Ortiz 2 off
It's a nice idea on paper but politics aside it wouldn't be wise for Khan to jump straight up to 147lbs and fight Ortiz right away IMO.greenyox3 wrote:Would also love to see this, but apparently won't happen because Khan is contracted to HBO and Ortiz is with Showtime.safeerah wrote:Ortiz V Khan would be a great fight, Khan knocked him out in the ams, when they where very young, Ortiz power has increased massively since and Khan has improved greatly, what a fight.bigB wrote:Seen on twitter that Berto has tested positive for a banned substance, seems Ortiz is needing a new opponent. The sport has been in the gutter RE PEDs for some time. The testing will either drag boxing from the gutter or make at least a more level field, (everyone on drugs).Old bones Ian wrote:I look forward to the usual excuse of 'i thought it was ok to take this' .
