What Next For Price?
Re: What Next For Price?
Price should really give up the British title and let the domestic guys fight for it, he clearly has precious little to prove at that level judging by his last couple of fights.
Re: What Next For Price?
He should just do quick fights for brit title outright, maybe have 1 co inside with winning commonwealth or euro title, then have some euro defence
Re: What Next For Price?
i'd like to see him win the lonsdale belt outright before moving on to european level maybe 3 or 4 fights time i dont think theres any real rush even if he fought people like towers or harrison, towers being a dangerous puncher and harrisons name would be good on the record not that i think he would wanna get in the ring with price, unfortunatly for price theres not much at domestic level other the fury at the moment with chisora and haye tied up.

Price has world class power for sure, Sexton and him looked like totally different divisions last night. I'd still like to see him against Fury first.

I agree, I think Fury and team must fancy it less and less each time they see him fight. Fury has a fighters heart for sure but in terms of technique and power! he's levels below Price
Re: What Next For Price?
I think Price will have problems getting decent opponents.
Re: What Next For Price?
Got to be honest, I am not sure how they hold him back now really, he does everything so well and to be honest so easily, its a case of, apart from the top two guys in the world, will anyone actually want to fight him, or indeed make a meaningful fight for him and the public.
If you take the brothers out of the equation, where does he go to get a meaningful fight, I cannot see Povetkin's team wanting any part of him and they are lining Sasha up for the winner of Haye/Chisora hence them sanctioning that fight for there bauble. Pulev would be a great next fight for him but cannot see that happening just yet with his connections.
Arreola and Mitchell will both think they are in line for a shot at the K's if they keep winning, Adamek/Chambers winner must be hoping for the same.
Domestic level with Fury,Chisora, and Haye all out of the equation, literally the next challenger would be Matt Skelton, so not sure he needs to go there to be honest at this stage of his career.
I think due to his extensive amateur record he has learnt what he has and what he will, I would move him now, push him on, frighten the life out of the others, make the public demand the fights.
I never thought I would say this but with Vitali being what he is/was against Chisora, he looks ready for the taking for me, that would set up revenge of the brother type scenarios with Wlad, if Price was to beat him they would demand a rematch that takes Pricey upto the age of about 30-31, I will always worry about his chin due to the amateur ko's and multiple knockdowns but he just looks ready to me now.
I just cannot see the point in waiting, if you wait 2 years, Vitali will be gone anyway from the game and Wlad may just decide to go with him, then the title is more winnable yes but the rewards will dwindle dramatically once the Brothers have gone, if David goes for it and it goes wrong which of course is very possible, does it really harm him, he is 28 now I believe, in 5 years the title would be much easier to win and he could come again.
Personally and I never thought I would say this, this guy has a chance of beating both of the Klitschko's he has cracking handspeed for a big man, the way he shortens uppercuts and hooks and the speed he delivers them with surprises me and that Jab is superb, its just my opinion but I would let him off the leash now.
Call them all out, the fight will get made and then we will see but by god there would not be a more anticipated crack at the Klitschko's than Price.

im normally the 1st so slag off fury but against rogan he looked good coming in lighter then ever and fighting southpaw i would of said price would have made fury looked stupid a couple of fights ago but not the fury of the rogan fight that was a good performance by fury.

Re: What Next For Price?
Yeah Fury did come in lighter and the southpaw stance worked well against Rogan who looked old frankly. I do like to watch a Fury fight he's entertaining but in terms of skill set Price is head and shoulders ahead for medan28uk wrote:Final round wrote:MachoMan09 wrote: I'd like the Fury fight just to demonstrate to people the difference in levels between the two. Re: What Next For Price?
Dimitrenko if it can get made. Dangerous guy but has enough flaws in his game for Price to get by him. Not too big a step, but nice solid move into european/world class.
Re: What Next For Price?
I reckon he could still use some british names to build an even greater profile, spank Audley if he wants a shot, try and get a hold of Fury, Maybe even the loser of Chisora v haye (as the winner will likely get either of the Klits).MachoMan09 wrote:What you say is true, of course, but no other division is so devoid of class. Price is already popular among serious british boxing fans and the Liverpool public but if he is promoted properly against the right names he could go into a world title fight in a couple of years as a superstar/household name. He does all the right things and generally seems like a likeable guy.
Re: What Next For Price?
I was thinking to myself during the fight that I now know what Fury was scared of.
Fast hands good technique and fantastic power. Sexton looked like a sparing partner and its no wonder because as soon as he got involved it was lights out!!
Skelton I would not like to see to old and is a dirty fighter.

Re: What Next For Price?
The top of the domestic scene is looking quite interesting at the minute. Obvisously there is the Haye and Chisora fight coming up and then the likes of Fury and Towers.
I'd plot his career as follows: (Assuming that the Fury fight cannot be made until both are World Champions?)
I'd like to see a defence of the British and/or Commonwealth title in the summer - no qualms with the likes of Harrison and Pajkic or Firtha.
Then in the Autumn there would be 3 possible fights I'd look towards;
1. The loser of Chisora/ Haye - although if this happended to be Haye i'd say it would be impossible to make the fight.
2. Richard Towers for the Euro title - providing Towers wins his bout in June
3. Go down the Inter-continental/ International route and fight either Solis (IBF) or Wach (WBA)
One more fight against a World ranked opponent early next year before looking at Povetkin maybe and then finally the Klitchkos at the end of next year.

Re: What Next For Price?
Throwing him in with a Klit rut now would ruin Price I think. It's easy to say he can come again if he loses but what if he gets totally sparked which is very possible ( especially against Wlad )
Heavy knockout losses can ruin a fighter.

Re: What Next For Price?
winner of Wallisch/Towers would seem a good one
Fury's team will vanish down the nearesr rabbit hole at the mere mention of price now.
its still early days but i think both Chisora and Haye get stopped.....even now !!!!
price has BRUNO POWER !!!!

I think haye would demolish price at the moment.
Re: What Next For Price?
Not sure how Price can be defined as unproven at domestic level. I thought winning the British title is the definition of being proven at domestic level.
As side from Haye, Chisora and Fury (none of whom are going to face him) all British fights are going to be considered backward steps from Sexton, so I think Price has a decision on whether he wants to lonsdale belt for keeps or progress.
I wouldn't mind seeing someone who might be able to extend him a few rounds and give it a go first.... someone maybe like Sosnowski or Airich (at a push), but alternatively lets see him go for the European title and move on.

He needs to step up to european level straight away and world level within the next 2 or 3 fights. If he's succesful there he needs to be moving onto the klits no point waiting 2 years.
Re: What Next For Price?
Would Sprott not be an ok first defence.

When have I said that Fury deserves to be ranked at number 4 in the division? I think a ranking of between 10th to 15th place is reasonable.Finch wrote:You do spout some shit, especcially when you suggest that Fury is worthy of his number 4 world ranking.

Sprott would be a significant step up from Sexton. Sprott is far more proven than Sexton.Camcas wrote:Be terrible and a step down from Sextonleforge wrote:Would Sprott not be an ok first defence.
Re: What Next For Price?
Sexton possibly has the least power, stamina and punch resistance of any of the domestic top 10. He had nothing to threaten Price with. McDermott was a more formidable opponent for Price since he at least has some power and stamina.crusader wrote:Fighting better opposition isn't rushing; imminently fighting world class opposition is rushing.
Currently, Skelton and Harrison are on the same level as Sexton and McDermott and I doubt that their perceived strengths would trouble Price; Harrison is too reluctant for his size and power to have an impact, while Skelton is too slow and hittable for his aggression to be effective and sustained. I don't, therefore, believe that fighting these domestic operators will ready Price for tougher challenges or prove anything to most people (especially given the fighters' ages). Sprott recently lasted rounds with Dimitrenko and Pulev, so he may do the same against Price, but he hasn't won in a year and a half and I don't see him offering much in return.
Sprott has a lot of European experience and will probably give Price some rounds and he would be a good measuring stick against the other top European heavyweight. If Price can stop Sprott early then that would actually be impressive.
Harrison is a big name and a former European champion and world title challenger, it would clearly be a step up from Sexton and McDermott. Price could do with getting some names on his record and getting the attention of the British public, this fight would help with that.
Skelton is probably the least useful opponent of the three for Price to fight; but he is a former British, Commonwealth & European champion and former world title challenger. He is tough and hits harder than McDermott and Sexton and he will be a slight step up from those two, he would make for a good keeping busy fight.
Price isn't ready to move that far forward, his record is weak and some of the opponents mentioned would have a very good chance of knocking him out. He can still learn plenty at domestic level, so he should stay and learn before moving on.crusader wrote:I believe that Price could learn more by taking a calculated step up against the type of opponents listed in the post I quoted; he probably beats them, but they are more likely to be competitive than Skelton, Harrison, and Sprott are. This competition will better prepare Price for increasingly tough opposition than fighting predictably overmatched opponents will. Besides learning more, I think that he will prove more and thus receive greater attention by successfully taking a step up than by successfully taking a step sideways.
I'm not opposed to another domestic opponent if Price want to return quickly, but apart from that scenario it's time to move forward.

Re: What Next For Price?
heavyweight boxing is a lot different these days.
probably deontay is the only heavy still able to rack up a huge string of pointless ko's off the radar.
as for price...his power is going to see him rise very rapidly
atm id say he'd ko everyone up to dimitrenko and helenius at euro level
as for Haye and Chisora....if you thought the height difference was silly against the klits...then get ready for the Price difference !!!!!
