What Next For Price?
Re: What Next For Price?
He needs to step up to European level now.
Is Pulev the champ? Well if you like to believe the gym stories, then Pricey handled Pulev comfortably in recent sparring.
I agree, sparring is sparring, but Pricey (for his inactivity) is always in the gym sparring TOP QUALITY opponents; world class opponents even.
The domestic scene is below Price. Horse, you may rank Skelton and co on part with Sexton, but don't just look at the result from the Price - Sexton fight, look at how easily Price controlled and stopped Sexton.

But who fights him at Euro level? He'd have to become the top contender for the Euro title, and who the hell knows how long that could take or what politics could get in the way.

Gerber or Charr so he can expose them for what they are.If not then a experienced Euro fighter like Bydenko or Baktov or Pudar.
Failing that an old,named Yank.

Re: What Next For Price?
Its a differcult one, Frank doesn't want to rush him too much, but he's above alot of boxers in ability so whats the point in getting him fights that he'll win in a round or 2.
One guy i'd like to see Price take on would be Maurice Harris, he's a decent boxer , when he's on form he can outbox anyone, but does get stopped by a few.

But these are all fights where there is no incentive for the opponent. Beating Price isn't a scalp yet, won't get anyone any future opportunities, and is overall a pretty daunting assignment.
Re: What Next For Price?
You're right. Frank's gonna' have to dig deep in his pockets to get fighters willing to take a massive gamble against Price (let's face it, losing at European level against a 'prospect' would hamper shots at the big trinkets).Riddick Blowe wrote:But who fights him at Euro level? Would like to see Price against Sosnowski. Even the likes of a few 'has-beens' such as Monte Barrett would do me.

I don't consider Price ready for the big time, but he's ready to move past the domestic old timers.

I want his chin tested

Once defence of British title then move on. When is he likely to fight next?

Oliver McCall, James Toney or Zack Page I guess.Riddick Blowe wrote:I don't even think Price will be able to get fights at domestic level even if he wanted to stay there for a while. Who can he defend his title against that would be meaningful? An 80 year old Skelton? A chinless, 60 year old never-was in Harrison? Sprott? Do people really want to see that? OK, it might be interesting for a few rounds (if Sprott even wants the fight) but Sprott would just get decapitated eventually.
The sort of guy he needs to face next needs to be euro-class like Sosnowski or someone, but the trouble is NOONE WILL WANT THE FIGHT. Can Maloney offer enough money to convince these guys on cash alone? But then where is their motivation? I said on the current scene that Price's best chance will be through some sort of eliminator, but I have no idea how the sanctioning bodies approach these any more.
Failing a competitive one he needs a teak-tough American trial horse who can give him rounds. Who fits the bill here? Who is today's Everett Martin? I don't even know.
Prepare for a long period of frustration as Price's career stalls due to noone wanting to face him.
By the way, Price crushes Fury, not even close.

There is no chance David Price will be World champion 18/24 months from now unless a meteor fell from the sky and wiped out the Top 10 Heavyweights in the world.FtmPress wrote:I read all these post and take on what the fans says but we will not change the way we have planned out the route to the big prize. Having said that Price will crush most of the domestic, commonwealth and european level fighters not named Haye, Fury, Pulev, Bermaine Stiverne, Helenius, Mike Perez, Denis Boytsov and Mariusz Wach.
I would like to see him fight a few of the following over the next 12 months: Alexander Dimitrenko, Francesco Pianeta, Alexander Ustinov, Edmund Gerber, Ruslan Chagaev, Manuel Charr, Albert Sosnowski and Timur Ibragimov.

Re: What Next For Price?
So who do you suggest has a better chance than him assuming the Klits retire soon? And why would he have any problems with most of the people on that list (Stiverne? Fury? Perez? Wach? Lol) on the evidence of what we've seen from him so far?exittored wrote:There is no chance David Price will be World champion 18/24 months from now unless a meteor fell from the sky and wiped out the Top 10 Heavyweights in the world.FtmPress wrote:I read all these post and take on what the fans says but we will not change the way we have planned out the route to the big prize. Unless they're so sure his chin is going to be shown up, not sure what more Price can do to convince some people at this point.
Re: What Next For Price?
Very unlikely that the management of any hyped up Euro prospects will permit their fighter to be ritually sacrificed to Price. Plus, I suspect a lot of British prospects might turn down the chance to challenge for the British for as long as Price holds it. Towers definitely isn't ready, for example. If Harrison beats Adams this weekend, then he's probably nutty enough to fight Price. On the flip side, if Adams wins then I reckon he'll probably want to mix with some of the other British Heavies first and build up more experience.
Price might just have to bide his time and fight obscure imports and eliminators until he's no1 contender for Pulev's Euro strap.

Re: What Next For Price?
I think Dominic Guinn is today's teak tough American trial horse. Once a prospect, he now seems content to lose on points, stopping him might be difficult.keithmoonhangover wrote:Oliver McCall, James Toney or Zack Page I guess.Riddick Blowe wrote:I don't even think Price will be able to get fights at domestic level even if he wanted to stay there for a while. I am so glad you are all great boxing managers and experts how come none of you have a license or put your money were your mouths are and invest in a young boxer and show us how to do it. Price is going the right way and still a master piece in the making and it will be done the right way. But i do enjoy reading all you so call experts maybe i should employ one of you as our matchmaker.

Re: What Next For Price?
In an ideal world Tyson Fury, but thats not going to happen anytime soon. I favour Fury still but that wanes a bit every time I see Price fight. Early KO's against McDermott and Sexton is good form, I just want to see him dragged into the late rounds and I think Fury would do that.
Failing the Fury fight, how about someone like Helenius? Decent name and beatable.
Remember people Maloney has form with building British heavies

No i have no trouble with any one discussing fighters and i like to read what others think but let no forget there boxing and there heavyweight boxing and building a hw is far more harder than any other weight. Most just build there guys up and into fighting for a world title, We in the Price team want to fight and win the title not just turn up for a pay day. Rome was not build in a day nor was any HW Champion.

I'm sure you will do a good job with him. I have not been disappointed with any match up he has had so far that's for sure. Does Price want to win a Lonsdale outright?
