Alsager boxing promoter Pat Brogan has made an audacious £7m bid to sign up world champion Ricky Hatton. by Andy Morris Brogan, who has not promoted for four years since a row with the British Boxing Board of Control, wants to return with a bang.
He has put together a three-fight deal for the IBF light-welterweight champion. But Hatton is currently embroiled in a row with allegedly, who is seeking an injunction to prevent the unbeaten Mancunian fighting for anyone else. Warren has promoted Hatton throughout his 39-fight professional career, and insists he has a contract for a further three fights.
Brogan supports Hatton in his belief he is now a free agent, and has stepped in with a sensational offer. He said: "Warren can't produce a contract with Hatton. Unless he can do that, Ricky is a free agent and can sign with whoever he wants.
"I've got together with partners and we have put forward a £7m offer for three defences of his IBF title. I met Ricky's father, Ray, in Manchester and put forward the offer. Ricky liked the idea of my offer. His father said he had been very impressed."
Hatton, who had held the WBU version of the title for four years, stopped Australian Kostya Tszyu in Manchester in June to pick up the IBF belt.
Brogan does not currently hold a promoter's licence, having refused on principal to pay a fine handed out by the BBBC in 2001. But he said: "All I would need to do is pay £1,000 and I'd get my licence back. They couldn't refuse me.
"Ricky Hatton is the only British fighter who has excited me enough to want to promote again, and I wanted to do something big.
"What I think he should do is get three defences of his title against credible opponents, then look to take on American Floyd Mayweather. That's a fight the whole world would want to see."
Reports suggest Hatton has joined forces with Sheffield promoter Dennis Hobson, but Brogan believes he can still pull off a deal. He said: "I'm aware of what Dennis Hobson's doing, and good luck to him. But my deal has certainly not been blown out of the water."

3 credible apponents! He should be fighting big fights all the way if Hatton is predicting a short career! After 3 'credible' defences, Mayweather will be fighting for teh WBC light middleweight title!
