Quarry-Lyle Weigh In

I got some interesting footage today and one of the clips I thought Id mention: The weigh in for Jerry Quarry Vs. Ron Lyle. We all know what happened. Ron Lyle was streaking at the time and Quarry, who was fading, was expected to be little more than a stepping stone. The footage is silent but Lyle can be seen talking smack at Quarry through most of it sort of reminiscent of Ali. Whats interesting to me is that Quarry is staring daggers at Lyle. Not saying a word, just focused intently and obviously extremely pissed at whatever Lyle is saying. Now, I have a lot of Quarry weigh in footage, contract signings, press conferences, interviews, etc. And usually, not always, he is pretty down to earth, professional, respectful, and even tempered. I had never seen him look like this. To me it really kind of forshadowed what happened in the ring.



Just after this picture Quarry starts to walk off, Lyle says something to him and Quarry half turns and looks at him like to say "Say that in the ring tomorrow." Then heads off. It was pretty cool.

I recall during the MSG broadcast that the weigh-in had been heated. Too bad the clip doesn't have sound. Lyle fought like a guy who hadn't done his homework and who thought he could take Quarry out in the early-mid rounds like he had everyone else. Big mistake.

Sort of reminds me a little of the press conferance for Quarry vs Shavers.
Archie Moore(Shaver's trainer)and Shavers talking crap about Quarry.
Shavers looked a little too confident in this photo.
(of course this was before Shavers was injured by Jeff Merritt in sparring
and the fight had to be moved up to December.
