Felix Savon's future

Post by 6 Pack »

This guy has to be old as hell by now. I have not heard, but is he retired? It would be crazy if he was in the next Olympics. These Cubans fight as amateurs forever and fight other countries young men who have 1/4th their experience. No wonder Cuba wins so many medals. Imagine Holyfield never turned pro! Felix would be a repeat silver medalist.

Savon retired just after the olympics. Savon was 33 and was quickly approaching the AIBA international competition age limit of 34.

I think the age for amateur boxers should be lowered to 24.
It is reall a mismatch to have a 17 year old kid boxing another person who i old enough to be his father.

Most fighters 17 years old are not going to be fighting at the top amatuer level. The AIBA has "cadet" championships for fighters 17 and under as well as "junior" championships for those 19 and under.
