Froch Vs Cleverley

Post by Newport Daz »

In Frank W@rren's Sun column he reiterated his desire to stage Froch Vs Cleverley. In light of the utter destruction of the genuinly world class Lucien Bute, will Frank's enthusiasm be on the wane?

I suspect Frank will use Froch's name for publicity in order to sell Cleverley's next defence against the WBO carpet fitter, taxi driver, plumber(insert trade) he'll be mandated to face.

Anyway given that Haye Vs Chisora is happening against all odds, what chances of Froch Vs Clev?

I can't see it happening.

If Cleverly wants to make the most out of his attributes he needs to fire his dad and work with a proper boxing trainer. If it wasn't for Dean Powell he'd have lost against Murat, probably a bad knockout too.

For a while at least he'll be facing more Karpency type opponents, all the while mentioning Froch in interviews and stuff.

I like Clev, he's got bags of potential but it will take some unlocking to achieve what he's capable of achieving.

Not likely as they are both World Champions at two different weights. There are plenty of better fights for Froch. Like a rematch with Kessler.

I'm sure there's an undefeated Lithuanian milkman out there that Cleverley could defend his WBO belt against.

whats the point? they may as well just give clevs paper title to froch and forget about wasting eveyones time with the fight.

Clev is one of the most undeserving world title holders i can think of; the best person he has fought is bellew and he nearly lost, and by bellews own admission he is still a developing fighter. Give it 6 months and bellew would be able to beat him, difference is bellew would then go a fight someone world class instead of some random guys of the street who have watched rocky once or twice.

In fact i dont even consider clev a world title holder, you have to beat someone to win a title he just got given it and his management have made no attempt to legitamise it.

Clev holding a paper title ( probably THE most obvious example of a paper title in the business right now ) this early will do him more harm than good in the long run.

When he steps up I think he is getting outclassed and knocked out.

He is not on Froch's level. Froch v Kessler is the one that has to be made next.

I think Froch would be too much for Cleverley, but I doubt Froch would go up to light heavy, he is not big enough, walks around just above the super middle limit, plus after Bute, he will be looking to become the best in the world at his weight, Ward is moving up, so the door is open. If the fight did happen, it would be a war, but Froch would stop Cleverley.

Froch smashes Cleverley like a little boy, Clev never been near anyone of Froch's level and probably won't do for years if Warren has anything to do with it.

Froch doesn't need this fight. He's a true champion it would be 2 steps back. easy payday though :bag:

Froch fought Jean Pascal in his 24th fight. Cleverly fought Karpency in his. Just different levels of ambition to be the best, let alone allround ability.

Cleverly is an accident waiting to happen, unless Warren put in a lot of money it would be a waste of time for Froch to flatten him given his other options.

Just what Froch needs.

After his most dominant win against the man generally seen as No 2 in his division on a high profile show in front of tens of thousands, he needs to fight a paper champ, at a different weight in front of the proverbial one man and his mutt on CrapNation? And when he turns down whatever derisory offer that comes his way? He'll be accused of ducking Clev.

Get Kessler up next - avenge that loss against the Dane who's looking very beatable at the moment.

I would love to see Froch v Cleverly.

Looks like I`m the only one who would back Cleverly to win too ..

Aside from the shot to bits Taylor .. this is the only time Froch has stopped an opponent in the last 4yrs .. or even looked like stopping one.

I think too many people are getting carried away here.
The real question marks are over Bute. We all know what Froch is about .. we only assumed we knew about Bute.

It was a great win for Froch. But he is still a level or two from the top guy in the division .. a guy who beat him last time.

Leaving aside the fact that Froch has better, more profitable avenues open to him, this would still be a poor choice. Cleverley's only advantage is that he's a career light heavyweight, and I'm not sure you can say he's sturdier than Froch, or a bigger hitter even with that taken into account. Froch has just smashed a guy who hadn't faced true top level competition, yet Bute's cv reads far more impressively than Cleverley. I just don't see it happening, and if it did, I cannot honestly give Cleverley much of a chance, not at this stage of his career. Sparring 12 rounds with the likes of Karpency will not have prepared him for Froch.

Youre right, and well, you can't blame Clev that much. It worked for Calzaghe (and other W@rren fighters)

Cleverley is at the same level as Stieglitz, a step down from Froch.

Surely that tends to happen when you fight the sort of top level opposition that Froch has done in that time though? He's not an explosive puncher at that level, but he's heavy handed enough to trouble Cleverley, I would think. I hardly think he needs a stoppage to win against Nathan.

I dont see how people can talk about Froch's lack of power in his last few fights when you can see that Cleverley is hardly a big puncher himself.

I agree that Cleverly is no big puncher - I just meant that Froch is no dynamite puncher as he was first described as.

And to beat Froch, it does not take a big puncher anyways. That much has been proved twice already.

It is, however, going to take an opponent who's far above anything Cleverley has shown so far. That much has also been proven.

I have seen on fw twitter he as removed a tweet from yesterday saying " When froch loses to bute he should fight cleverly". I know cleverly as a world title but come on he is nowhere near the same level as froch i could pick 5 maybe 6 boxers froch as beat that would beat cleverly. All fw is wondered about is protected cleverly 0. Froch as shown taking risk makes you a better fighter. Please Froch vs ward 2 next.

Absolute nonsense. Froch could've stopped Pascal if he'd shown a little nit more composure, having hurt him several times. His combination punching was actually below par that night despite winning well.

Furthermore he could've stopped Abraham as well, but decided to adopt a more cautious opponent against a heavy handed opponent.

If he had been fighting the likes of Karpency and Kuziemski he would have a far higher ko percentage.

Just more pompus crap from W@rren, using Froch's name to get some recognition for his fighter. Nathan is a good lad, with some talent but he is levels below what Froch is at. In boxing anything can happen but W@rren does this type of thing often enough. It's just hype. If the guy matched his fighter, one of the best examples of a paper champion at the mo, with the like of Karpency and was pushing hard for Krasniqi, you really believe that all his bluster is genuine. It's not.
