Froch vs Cleverley is like pitting the scouts against the beavers. Not on Frankie

Looks like I`m the only one who would back Cleverly to win too ..
Aside from the shot to bits Taylor .. this is the only time Froch has stopped an opponent in the last 4yrs .. or even looked like stopping one.
I think too many people are getting carried away here.
The real question marks are over Bute. We all know what Froch is about .. we only assumed we knew about Bute.
It was a great win for Froch. But he is still a level or two from the top guy in the division .. a guy who beat him last time.
'shot to bits Taylor'?? Bit strong, bit harsh on Froch, only been stopped 1 time before!! Let's give Froch the credit he deserves here!!
Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
Nathan seems a nice guy and surely he himself must be frustrated by the fact his name only appears alongside the sports top names only on press releases... And not actual fight posters.
His performances are getting steadily more flat on account of not being inspired/threatened by the challenger in front of him.
Logic dictates he wouldn't hang with a multitude of top names, purely because he's not shown us anything. The reality is he could do very well - but if he is never afforded the opportunity, how can the critical boxing fan make a case for him?
Bute thrashed everyone climbing the ladder to the top guns of the division. Unfortunately Nathan isn't even doing that. He isn't even on the ladder, because he's being given completely unknowns to fight.
I personally feel he has a lot more in his locker than we've seen to date, but if he is not forged by challenging fights on the way up, he could fall flat on his face if suddenly thrown into a top fight without serving his apprenticeship properly.
Thankfully for Nathan, he is still young enough - but whatever potential he 'might' have , will surely wither on the vine, if decent names don't come his way in the next 12 months.

Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
My god, Froch would tear Cleverly to bits. Nathan just isn't seasoned enough to take on a tough nut like Carl. Cleverly has had one of the easiest routes to a title belt i've ever seen.
Christ, this is just madness. Cleverly is a physical specimen, and has talent, no doubt, but it hasn't been developed in the ring where it counts. He just hasn't had the kind of fights that would prepare him for Froch.

Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
Of course he's not. If he'd lost, maybe. But despite that WBO belt, Cleverley has proven nothing on the world stage. Froch very much has. It won't stop Froch's name being linked with Cleverley by some though. After all, it's hardly more ridiculous than linking Cleverley with Hopkins. The Dark Destroyer wrote:I don't think it matters what Clev has at the stage, I don't think Froch is going to even entertain a fight against him.
Cleverley might be well advised to look at last night at realise that the opposition means more than the belts. Although given that he's a smart lad, he probably knows that already.

Froch has no business at 175. He walks around bang on the 168 limit, to go to LHW would be utter madness. He should target Kessler first then see what happens. Eddie might even lay out a bit of cash to get him to fight In nottingham. It goes without saying that, whatever happens, Froch's nwxt fight wont be an easy one!

You still don't seem to understand Froch not stopping many guys at the highest level is IRRELEVANT! Cleverly is a domestic-level fighter and Froch has walked through that level easily. Cleverly would have been a good match if Froch was at the same level of development as he was when he fought Matthew Barney. Now, it would be a massacre. Froch would toy with him and end it whenever he felt like it. Bute would walk through Cleverly too, with ease.
Maybe you are the only one who thinks Cleverly would win for a reason...just saying.

Its all opinion mate ;;-)
Majority of opinion was that Bute wins quite comfortably ... that was proved nonsense
I am quite confident the fight will be made within 18mths.
Then - we shall all see who`s opinion is proved correct.
As funny/crazy/daft as some here find my opinion - Its not half as funny/crazy/daft as I find their opinion of Froch after his last fantastic win
It turns out now Froch coulda stopped both Pascal and Abraham ... if he really wanted to
Its all opinion

Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
Why are you so confident the fight will be made anyway? Froch doesn't fight scrubs and the title is meaningless. The only way I can see it if he wanted an easy tune up for the start of a light heavyweight campaign, but even if he did want to move up (which I don't think is the case) he would probably just want to dive in vs Dawson or whichever top guy would make a fight.

If he can`t get Kessler down to 12stone .. or even catchweight.
Ward has no need to fight Froch again .. and would certainly not come to Nottingham.
What other big pay days does Froch have except a DeGale or Groves .. and Groves is with Bunny like Cleverly .. but Cleverly has a world title
And Froch would prob see it as an easy defence the same as alot on here do.

Fixed it for you.tonyevs wrote:but Cleverly has a paper title
Froch does seem to be lacking options bar the Kessler fight though. I think there's more chance of him staying at 168 though, I'm sure he said somewhere he has no intention of moving up, at least not yet.
Would be VERY interesting if Dawson managed to beat Ward as that's a winnable one for Carl down the line if Chad moves back up to LHW again.

Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
I think Cleverly is in danger of becoming the forgotten man. In my opinion the sooner he changes stable the better.
I mean he's got to be a bit peeved with whats going on with Frank seemingly more interested in putting on big fights for a fighter who hasn't even got a license.
He should be looking after his world champions........ Kessler v Cleverly would be a good match up.

Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
I think half the problem with Cleverly is until his put in with a fighter who he is not expected to beat with ease, then we really don't know his true potential. He needs to step up and start mixing with the big boys in his weight division.
Personally my self I've lost interest in his career now.

..answering with sarcasm is very often the symptom of not having a valid answer
Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
why would froch bother?
surely not unless he was past it and used as a stepping stone for the comparatively untested cleverly.

No point in this at all. Froch should fight Kessler or Pavlik next.

cleverly kessler....well thats much the same task, kessler is hardly a slouch.

No point in Froch facing Cleverly, who has a world title and would sell domestically ... yet you suggest a Kelly Pavlik fight for Froch .... Do you think Pavlik would give Froch a more serious test than Cleverly? seriously???
Re: Froch Vs Cleverley
Not only that, but Froch should be prepared to take the short end of the purse. Clev is so great that His record of being awarded titles outside of the ring is testament to the belief that various bodies have in His outstanding talent, to the extent that there is no need for Him to prove it in the ring. Also, Clev is unbeaten while Froch has more losses than Tyson Fury, James Degale, Frankie Gavin and Frank Buglioni. Put together. And finally, Clev is a World Champion at Light Heavy, a traditional, original weight division while Froch languishes down at 168 in the Super Middleweight Division that was only set up for Brits who were too inadequate to compete globally at 160 or 175. All in all, Clev is a real, unbeaten champ in an historic weight class while Froch is a has-been beaten fighter in minor weight class.

And there we all were thinking Cleverly parading his fake title everywhere trying to legitimise his claim to be a 'world champion', wouldn't fool anyone.tonyevs wrote:leforge wrote:No point in this at all. Froch should fight Kessler or Pavlik next.

Pavlik would knock Cleverly into next week. If you don't understand why this is, noone can help you anymore.
(on a side note, this doesn't mean Pavlik would be a significant challenge for Froch).

Do you really know who Kelly Pavlik is? have you been watching his fights the last 3-4yrs?? obviously you have not
If you or anybody else are saying he would give Froch a sterner test than Cleverly .... then its safe to say you are either a very bitter ignorant hater of Cleverly .. or you know alot less .... alot, lot less than you really think you do
