i know this may sound strange but i think that death is actually a bit of a relief for him and his family. he was just so tormented. stated loads of times how he didnt want to live. very very sad story, his book (well worth a read) is just heart breaking. RIP.

I agree. I hope it's not inappropriate but maybe it will be a relief for his wife that it is now all over. Terrible life as Tapia had there is no doubt that his wife had a really rough time too. She did all she could for him.

Tapia was a great figher who was sadly defeated by his demons. I'm very interested to read his book.

Tapia was a born fighter and was one of the must see boxers in the 90's.

RIP Johnny - spent time with him when he was over here for his fight at york hall, he trained in the Peacock a week before- nice guy

i was in the gym around this time and can remember johnny walking into the gym and warming up, then all of a sudden he started skipping and i swear to whole gym stopped, he was singing and dancing with the rope going it was just magic, i had a few chats with him and his brother in law and was lucky enough to be at the show at york hall when he boxed, when johhny walked to the ring that night all the hairs on my neck stood up, (the atmosphere was electric) i think johhny got a bit to excited as he blew away his opponent inside a round

Totally shut down Nana Konadu, who was a quality operator with a big punch. The best showing of Tapia's career IMO, dictating the pace, the pace, stopped his opponent getting off at all, and let his hands go.

Andre Dirrell could well take note of that performance. Tapia reined himself in without losing what made him the fighter he was.
