Ali-Frazier-Request
I'm watching the Fraziercentic doc about the thrilla right now and it's put me in mind of an audio clip of a (possibly staged) occassion where Frazier drove Ali from wherever to wherever during the ban, prior to the fotc-I honestly can't remember the details, they talked boxing, I clearly remember both of them agreeing Jack Johnson was the one guy they'd each pick from their predecessors to give them the most trouble (barmy imho-considering Louis did in fact exist)...anyway, I'd love to hear this again, I can't recall where I got the clip from, several hdd formats later, I don't have it anymore...does anyone know what I'm on about and have a link to it?

I've got the whole transcript of that conversation in a book in my loft.mrbassie wrote:I'm watching the Fraziercentic doc about the thrilla right now and it's put me in mind of an audio clip of a (possibly staged) occassion where Frazier drove Ali from wherever to wherever during the ban, prior to the fotc-I honestly can't remember the details, they talked boxing, I clearly remember both of them agreeing Jack Johnson was the one guy they'd each pick from their predecessors to give them the most trouble (barmy imho-considering Louis did in fact exist)...anyway, I'd love to hear this again, I can't recall where I got the clip from, several hdd formats later, I don't have it anymore...does anyone know what I'm on about and have a link to it?

Yancey...YOU are "Fraziercentric"
As is that recent documentary that was about the FOTC fundamentally from Frazier's point of view. (Finally a balancing bit of journalism).

No, I'm not.
I'm FAIR and BALANCED.
Endlessly plugging away against a tide of Ali groupie boy nitwits.
There, put that in your ditty bag.
Re: Ali-Frazier-Request
I'm not sure you are aware of this, but Frazier HIT Ali, and knocked him down one time. An awful thing to do, it got so out of hand, that the ref had to tell him to go to the corner.
It's all been documented. Frazier was not staying with the plan that Ali had mapped out. It was all very messy. Nobody told him he couldn't win that fight, and he was apparently completely oblivious of the ESTABLISHED FACT that he was facing the greatest of all time, in the prime of his career.
Talk about a guy who didn't know how to work with a team.

Not many guys out there that wouldn't have found it more convenient to go with the Ali plan that night.
btw, Gran always maintained that Smoke put Ali down in the 11th, too.
It could have been called that way, except Mercante was too busy pulling his finger out of Joe's eye, I guess.

Yancey is not "Fraziercentric." He's just "keepin' it real. . ."BoxBuzz wrote:Yancey...YOU are "Fraziercentric"

Good point. Frazier did put Ali down in the 11th round as well as the 15th. And yse there were plenty of refs who would have called that a knockdown because a left hook did proceed it. The fact that Ali "slipped" was greatly aided by the fact he got hit to. And a few seconds later he really got rocked. If the current points system was usede in Ali-Frazier I the margin would have certainly been greater on the judges cards as Frazier would have had two 10-8 rounds!

I think you mean precede, not proceed.Boxing Wizard wrote:Good point. Frazier did put Ali down in the 11th round as well as the 15th. Guys, you know how pro-Ali I am, but cmon --- Frazier did not knock him down in the 11th. It was a slip, plain as day.

I think that's what I'm on about, for some reason I remembered it as an audioclipkeithmoonhangover wrote:I've got the whole transcript of that conversation in a book in my loft.mrbassie wrote:I'm watching the Fraziercentic doc about the thrilla right now and it's put me in mind of an audio clip of a (possibly staged) occassion where Frazier drove Ali from wherever to wherever during the ban, prior to the fotc-I honestly can't remember the details, they talked boxing, I clearly remember both of them agreeing Jack Johnson was the one guy they'd each pick from their predecessors to give them the most trouble (barmy imho-considering Louis did in fact exist)...anyway, I'd love to hear this again, I can't recall where I got the clip from, several hdd formats later, I don't have it anymore...does anyone know what I'm on about and have a link to it?
Can't remember where I read it though. Ah well.
I would definitely call it a knockdown.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Guys, you know how pro-Ali I am, but cmon --- Frazier did not knock him down in the 11th. It was a slip, plain as day.

btw, haven't watched the FOTC in quite a while.
In which round did Mercante accidentally poke Frazier in the eye?

Re: Ali-Frazier-Request
I think Arthur poked him in the eye that Joe couldn't see out of anyway. So....no harm no foul. Surely didn't seem to phase him.
Arthur's pokin' didn't stop Joe's smokin'.
