Very healthy attitude displayed by Bute, rather than going into denial and finding excuses, he's accepted that Froch was too good for him. I can see Bute doing a little better in a rematch, but the fact Carl seemed able to hurt him at will, doesn't bode well for a different outcome. Eventually, Bute is going to get tagged, and when he does, it will be more of the same, he obviously doesn't hold a shot that well, and Carl is heavy handed.

Best thing about this result was that Boxing Monthly can now remove him from the ludicrous number 1 position he has held in their rankings for aeons based on absolutely nothing. I don't know who compiles those rankings but that has been annoying me for fornicating ages.

I too think he will have a rematch.

Bute can`t do alot worse than the first fight.
Its all a question of his mental toughness .. which is really in doubt considering how he seemed not to cope too well last time.

But he will know what to expect next time. And can Froch bring the same intensity?
Will Bute handle it better now he has sampled it?
Will Bute be gun shy??

One thing I would point out (based only on the quotes in the OP) is that he didnt say he wanted an immediate rematch or specifically say he planned to exercise the rematch clause. I don't think this necessarily means there will be a rematch anytime soon, even if there is one at all. Besides, I think it would be unlikely for him to come out so soon after defeat and say 'I dont ever want any part of Froch again'. I think this fight might happen but I'm not sure they'll be looking for a rematch any time soon.

One thing that has just sprung into my head on the 'not an immediate rematch' point is the IBF do have a habit of favouring former champs in the rankings. How many times did Clinton Woods and Glen Johnson find themselves in line for shots at the IBF title not long after they lost it (not always immediately.)

Wouldn't suprise me if they said Bute and Stevenson to fight for the mandatory spot giving Froch the chance to take on someone like Kessler.

what happened was that.....

bute went into the bout thinking he was going to 'put it on froch'..... alas, when froch tagged him early bute realised that froch could hurt him, therefore bute concentrated on his defensive aspects instead of his offensive ones. bute finally let a few shots go when he decided to go out on his shield, unfortunately an adrenaline fuelled froch just walked through butes sharp shots.

bute has a big heart and took his lumps and his licks, ill doubt he will want more of it off froch, its all about chins, and froch beats him every day of the week, in whatever time zone!

Buter and the people around him seem very classy and polite people.
Bute is one hell of a fighter and i still beleive if he comes back as the man he was when he was beating g johnson, miranda those guys up in montreal, he has the beating of Ward.

But its a huge if, I cant remmeber a man taking the undefeated record destroying brutal confidence killing 5 round beating Bute did and coming back the same man.

An aside i do think we didnt see perhaps a highlight reel brutal knockout for the ages as the referee jumped in to save Bute. I know the fighters safety is paramount and of course some of the best knockouts (mercer-morrison,ruddock-dokes, cooney-norton) have been when the referee has been slightly slow in stepping in. Im just glad that did not happen this time, for all the baying for blood and hysteria of the great crowd.

had not Ward gone up to light heavy when the rankings where compiled ? For Bute to be put at number one, was expected, Froch, Johnson, Kessler and the others had all beaten each other, Bute was the only one left, was not Bute tipped to beat Froch by many boxing experts, even though the fight was in Nottingham, I still don't think it will be the same outcome if it takes place again in Canada, I think it will go to the score cards. Bute fought the wrong fight against Froch and his defense was terrible, he also stayed on the ropes too long. Kessler boxed Froch for long periods until he was forced to fight in the later rounds, where Froch came back into it, but too late. Froch deserves credit for a great performance, but only one person turned up that night, I also think Bute underestimated Froch and the fact that he still carried on with the fight with an infected toe was a big mistake, it must have restricted his movement, so made him stand and trade, big mistake.
