What majority opinions annoy you the most?

Post by SaadOffTheDeck »

I'm talking about widespread stuff that you hear from people you respect. Baffling stuff for me and I'll give a few.

Thomas Hearns had a china chin. As most of you know he is my favorite fighter, but his main flaw was letting his balls get in the way of his brain.

Any slugger would destroy Ken Norton.

All you needed to beat Tyson was guts and a jab. Tyrell Biggs had both.

Tyson and Chavez's primes abruptly ended the second they lost a fight.

Jack Dempsey or Rocky Marciano could never handle a big Heavyweight and modern slobs are bigger than them because they train at KFC.

Aaron Pryor was ducked by Leonard and everyone ducked Mike McCallum. Duran 'ducked' Mike to fight Hagler & Hearns consecutively. That's like ducking shingles for cancer.

The most enraging one I see over and over again is Pernell Whitaker was some kind of runner that refused to engage and would be vulnerable to high volume in mythical fights with all-time greats. he tossed 60-80 punches a round in his prime and Pea is a double; he also was apparently feather fisted.

that ali was the best boxer ever because of his stance on the vietnam war

that made him a great person as well as being a great boxer but its out of boxing and should contribute to his boxing legacy

You got yourself some good ones there.

Liston was a heartless quitter, and Tyson's prime ended with the Spinks fight

Not sure if they are majority, but these things annoy me.....

Vitali Klitschko would get beaten by any half decent heavyweight from history.

Duran could have beaten anyone if only he had trained properly.

Sugar Ray Leonard didn't have an eye injury, hadn't lost his appetite for the game, didn't have personal problems and manipulated his way through his whole career.

Riddick Bowe was a brilliant fighter, who could have beaten anyone if he'd trained properly and stayed focused.

James Toney is the last old school fighter.

Hearns would have beaten SRL easily in an immediate rematch.

Hearns didn't overtrain before the first Leonard fight and Manny Stewart is just lying about it.

Nigel Benn was helped back in the ring against G-Man.

Poor Sugar. Forever the victim

Vitali Klitschko being considered a great by some makes me want to throw up in my weet-bix.

Anyone who says Norton-Holmes was a very close fight was dead wrong. Also some people think that Holmes pulled out the last round of the fight to win the title, in reality he could have lost it 10-8.

Btw you would have to give Duran a great chance aganst any fighter in history at 147 or 135 had he stayed completely disciplined throughout his whole career, he was an incredible fighter.

Jake Lamotta didn't jab, he was simply a lunatic brawler.

Hearns' chin of course.

Mayweather ducking everyone from Cotto to Cory Spinks.

Leonard ducking Pryor makes my blood boil.

-Ali after his exile was more durable/had a better chin than the pre-exile Ali

-Norton "froze" vs anyone who could punch

-The Klitschkos are skilless bums who would lose to the likes of Tommy Morrison and Tony Tubbs AND
- The Klitschkos are simpy too big/too "evolved" for earlier greats like Dempsey, Johnson and Louis

-Jim Corbett invented the left jab

-Harry Wills was a big slow plodder, and would have lost to Dempsey b/c Dempsey loved big slow plodders

-Training and conditioning is far superior/advanced to training of prior decades

-Carmen Basilio was a crude brawler

-Riddick Bowe was scared of Lennox Lewis

Disagree about the last round of Norton Holmes. That was a tough round that could have went either way.

Leonard did not fight his fight against Duran in Leonard vs Duran I. That statement right there, irks me to the grave.

Ali understimated Frazier in fight #1

Robinson is the most complete fighter ever...I see at least 8 more complete than he was.

- Pre-exile Ali could dance for 15 rounds
- Coked up fat slobs of the 80's heavyweight scene were really supremely talented
- Frazier couldn't throw a right hand
- Louis had problems with movers

I've never understood where the 'Leonard ducked Pryor' line comes from.

How can you duck someone from the weight class below?

Surely it is up to the little guy to jump up & beat a path the the bigger guy's door. :-?

So you agree with Dempseyfire then?
I mis-read the post - that's pain killers for you.

Was Bowe 'scared' of Lewis? Feeling 'scared' is an emotion, so only Bowe will ever know that. But he agreed to fight Lewis and pulled out. Rock Newman no doubt had a say in that, but the buck stops with Bowe, it's his signature on the contracts and no one forced him to do anything. Bowe chose not to fight Lewis, that's why he vacated the WBC belt.

It annoys me that people say Vitali would lose to any half decent Heavyweight also. According to people on this site, Jimmy Young, Jerry Quarry and Ron Lyle would've owned him.

This one almost slipped my mind. There was a famous singer named Jackie Wilson people tend to credit him with winning the golden gloves when in fact it was a fighter that went by the same name. They say it so matter of factly that I just stopped arguing when I hear it now.
