Next Commonwealth heavyweight title fight

Post by turbostar »

I wondered why Price v Sexton wasn't for the Commonwealth title.
Look at the two bums the CBC have ordered to fight for this once great belt.

John Napari:

Adewale Abbey:
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer

So a guy with 14 of his 16 wins against guys who have never won a fight, versus a guy who has won one fight in 10 years.

Absolutely fornicating disgraceful that a once-prestigious title with such a long, proud history has been reduced to this.

I think the Hattons will try get the winner over for Richard Towers or Lucas Browne

Wasn't Price the mandatory challenger for the Commonwealth title?

In fairness to Napari, he has a win over Tyson on his record.

Not only that, but the announcer at the Price v Sexton fight said the fight was for the Commonwealth title and Price even lifted the belt. Yet it's not recorded on Boxrec or the CBC site :-?

Anyway, having done a bit of Googling, looks like Boxrec have it wrong. The fight is for something called the CBC Africa Zonal Title, basically the CBC are now giving out area titles to fighters from different parts of the Commonwealth.

So I'm assuming Price is still the Commonwealth champion....

Fury will still fight the winner. Maybe for the zonial african commonwealth spiritual heavyweight title. I'm sure he can find a bit of African in there.

Dreadful........it's a real shame that the Commonwealth belt doesn't have more meaning and the top boys from Australia, Canada, S.A etc. don't get involved.

I am pleased.

It should not be relegated to a second rate British title.

There should be more fights between other commonwealth member countries rather than it
be a tandem title for the British.

I am happy about this fight even if nobody else is. And this is not the worst commonwealth title
fight by a long chalk.

I completely disagree with everything you've written there, both these guys are terrible.
Although as I said a couple of posts ago, Boxrec has it wrong, this fight is not for the Comm title anyway, it's for the "CBC African Zonal title", the CBC are giving out area belts now.

Much as I don't like to see more titles, I can see the point of that one, as, having seen some terrible Africans come to the UK, at least if someone has won this belt they must be of some sort of level.

I think alot of the problem is that fighters from other commonwealth countries get that belt because its the highest level they can acheive, where as a lot of fighters in the UK use it as a stepping stone so when they meet certain fighters get completely outclassed.

There's a small amount of footage of both guys on Youtube, which I've watched some of. Napari looks quite sloppy technically and that's against a terrible opponent. I haven't seen anything of Abbey and there's little point watching him because his record is so atrocious it speaks for itself.
14 of Napari's 16 wins have come against guys with no wins on their record.
Abbey has lost 7 of his last 8, has only one win since 2002, and was stopped in round 1 by Joseph Chingangu who is well into his 40s and was KOed by Pele Reid a decade ago.
Napari might be decent, but his record doesn't bode well. Abbey is undoubtedly terrible.
I would put money on the likes of Olubamiwo/Sexton/Sprott/Skelton stopping these guys.
