I think a promoter managing a fighter is a conflict of interest, highlighted by some of the posts on here.

Poor management might be some of the problem, but i feel some boxers think they are worth more than they have proved.

I think that this is also a factor - although you cannot blame a boxer for wanting to maximise their earnings, they also need to weigh this against their level of activity.

I remember a while ago reading the John Murray was moaning about his inactivity, and Mick Hennsesey saying that he could get him more fights but Murray had a minimum purse stipulated in his contract and he would not fight for less.

Although I believe that most boxers will fight anybody, there seems to be a culture of boxers wanting to maintain their record and there may be some reluctance to face a similar level opponent in case they lose (unless it is for top dollar).

I also understand that FW has a standard clause in his contracts that if a boxer loses 2 fights then he can end the contract (eg. Jamie Arthur). This coupled with boxers and media expectations has contributed to the current situation.

I just thought a £100 a round sounded excessive,i dont know what sparring partners get paid,perhaps some of the pros could tell us... id have thought for someone sparring the Walshes who are only up&coming boxers would prob get £50-£100 for 4-8 rounds??
PS i wont have you round as a painter either £40 a room i paid&he did all the prep work

Walsh brothers paid my mate £100 per day to spar them

a boxer who posts on here paid another one of my mates £100 per round

you was surprised to think walsh brothers would pay £100 per round

would be even more surprised then if you knew who it was as it even surprised me

on that sort of money i may as well not box anymore

could earn a lot more as a pro sparring partner

with the original question

its hard to put on enough small shows to keep everyone happy

people arent earning , it loses money in the main to put on a show

people tell new promotors not to bother and to do unlicensed

that way they make more money

now to me that is sad and shouldnt be the case

how can unlicensed promotors earn better than pros

the whole reason it was even being discussed

was that the lad who had been paid £100 per round (by a boxrec posting boxer)

had been offered a commonwealth title shot

against one of the walsh brothers

who had previously sparred the other lad who was paid £100 per day

so obviously were discussing the experience of it
