But whilse still likely to be 4 years away before turning pro I like the looks of Young Patrick Mailata, he pushed Parker hard in there last few fights and the kid has heart and a fighters mentality!! I think he'll be better suited to the pro ranks, but at 17 times on his side! Big kid to!

Thats why these kids need CORRECT management!!! Where there parents and fmaily become SUPPORT networks and not try push there nose into business which they dont understand. Having said that they need the right people around them also, from trainers, manager, promoters etc. And to keep there teams SMALL!!!

I trained with a welterweight named Ken Carmody who had 145 fights, losing the vast majority. I used to see him selling hot dogs outside Canterbury Bankstown Leagues club on Sunday nights while he was still active. I always bought a hot dog from him and we always had a chat. He was a good bloke. Ken had his last fight in 1978 and died in 1982.

I think he made more from selling the hot dogs than he did from boxing.

Patrick was indeed giving us a hand at ABA last Friday night then drove 4 hrs with his trainer for North Island Golden Gloves where he had to go to weigh in to be consided for World Youth Games in Oct.He was Unopposed once again and is finding it hard to get fights in NZ.Sparing Pros in Auckland has kept him active and with a level head he will be one to watch in the next couple of yrs.Talking to Joseph Parker last night i was told he is to fight Dean Garmonsway on 5th July if pen is put to paper.
