Drinking at events question

It was allowed at Wembley (Fury v Chisora) but not ringside.

It was also allowed at Froch v Bute at the Nottingham Arena (not sure whether it was officially allowed ringside, but I saw Joe Gallagher drinking some red stuff - might have been tizer though)

I had VIP tickets at White Hart Lane and they served beer up until kick off, again at half time, and then not again until the match ended. The bloke said it was the law, but he was Dutch and had his own interpretation of the said law, thankfully.

Often drank in the corridors at the big shows, NEC, 02, Wembley etc.

Was it Van der Vaart? You probably could of got a bit of smoke of him too :)

It's an absolute no no everywhere.

Wasn't a problem at the Arena for the Brook Hatton fight.

I think they relaxed the rules about a year ago.

I think how it works now is that if the venue, the promoter and the police agree that the venue is suitable and can still be policed correctly then drink is allowed to be brought to the seats.

Drink was definitely allowed in Sheffield at Brook-Hatton.

There is an argument that people enjoy the night more, drink less and in a more responsible fashion if allowed to bring it to their seats.

Afterall for the majority of people at big shows it's a night out entertainment as much as a sporting event. So I hope it works out and isn't ruined for us all by a few balloons.

Where alcohol is banned when seated, most just get a large soft drinks cup, lid and a straw and just pour it into that instead.

My mate often gets a hip flask of whatever, buys himself a coke and pours it in.

He got tired of wanting a p*ss every time the main event began , from drinking gallons of beer.

From my experience boxing events are full of overly-macho idiots who are constantly trying to prove they're the Alpha males of the arena (whilst backed up with 15 gobby pissed up mates).

Personally I'd much rather watch it from the settee

As people have said, def to do with venue.

Last few times been to York Hall (last one was Kev Mitchell 10 rounder back in Feb time) its been a no-no. They even put a canvas screen outside the entrance to bar area to stop you hovering around there inside the bar and watching.

Saw Burns/Kat and Groves/Smith fights end of last year at Wembley Arena and that was totally different - could take as much beer as you wanted in although all was in plastic pint pots. (that said, the bogs were a war zone - literally tens of cokeheads doing lines, other people p*ssing in the sinks or even just on the floor, people smoking etc)

Going to Upton Park next month and fully expect it to be same as when Kev fought Kat - i.e. zero alcohol inside the stadium - which results in huge masses of people crammed in the concourses and bars trying to get boozed up and missing most of the undercard.

Appreciate on the whole its a slightly different crowd but been to Twickenham couple of times this year already and you're almost actively encouraged to drink before, during and after!

One thing that has always annoyed me. I've been to the Millennium Stadium to watch boxing, footy and rugby.

For footy and boxing it's drink by the bar, not allowed in the stadium. For rugby they give you a fecking SA Brains cardboard holder which allows you to cart 6 pints into your seat at a time! Feck's me off big time, especially when you consider the drinking culture that revolves around International Rugby in my country.

But, I see why. Fact of the matter is too many kn0bheads go to watch boxing and footy and spoil it for the decent fans who just want to relax and enjoy the game/fight.

Yeah I agree, where as the Rugby lot would rather lose a family member than flex their upper lip, a part of them that was installed whilst getting their regular public school buggerings

Its been for a while not allowed to drink alcahol inside the place where the boxing takes place

100% can drink at the echo arena but not at the olympia and i don't recall anyone at the price fight at aintree race course with bevys.

Like said above it seems to be a venues choice. Last visit to York Hall and they still wouldn't let you out of the bar area. Nottingham was fine for allowing it anywhere except from the looks of it inner ringside. o2 I've been allowed it only when I went in the nose bleed seats.

i think it's well out of order that york hall have that banner over the balcony so you cant see the ring from the bar
