When Carl Froch won his 3 World Titles
vs Pascal
vs Abraham
vs Bute
Now that is some list to win 3 world titles against especially when in 2 of them Froch was the underdog (Abraham , Bute). I think even aainst Pascal both were around even money.
Froch is a credit to the sport but especially here in the UK where finally he is getting the widespread recognition.
To also think that Froch could potentially fight Kessler again then if he wins Bute in Canada just shows that Froch is the type of fighter that IF many were like him....the sport would be in a better place.
I personally think he will win a close decision vs Kessler and will again KO Bute in Canada although later in the fight. After that i know it would be hard to retire at the top of his game BUT Froch really even right now has nothing to prove...ONLY a fight for a title at 175 could be the swansong that this warrior bows out as a 4 time 2 weight world champion.
How do you rate Froch's 3 title winning efforts
1. Pascal - excellent war with 2 young up and coming world class fighters teeing off for 12 rounds , the fact that Pascal has went to to win a world title makes Froch win look better.
2. Abraham - Froch was not expected to win especially as he was AWAY in Finland for this fight , Totally dominated Abraham basically winning every round , the nature of this beating was shocking to many.
3. Bute - i dont think i read anybody saying that Froch would destroy this undefeated champion early , but that what he did. I tought Froch would win on points as Bute was untested against the elite of 168..i did think it would be close though 116-112 or 115-113 like scores. To destroy him in 5 was i think Froch best performance of his career.

The measure of a win is often determined by what the opponent goes on to do in boxing.
Pascal has already been proven as a great win, after becoming WBC champ, beating Dawson , flooring Hopkins and now will beat Cloud.
Abraham is remained to be seen as a 'great' win yet. He is treading water at the minute.
Bute, IS a great win in my mind - but whether or not joe public rate it long term is defined by how Bute comes back from this.
I think all are superb victories.

All top drawer wins. Far too much revisionism in boxing.

I just think its an excellent list to win 3 world titles. Not many fighters win 3 world titles when they are either an underdog or are even money.
Re: When Carl Froch won his 3 World Titles
Of all his wins the pascal win is the most impressive to me, pascal had a good defencve and hurt carl a few times i remember, it was quite a close fight, bute fight i cant believe he won so easy, there was a tipping point in the fight when bute lands a good left hook i think and carl was like "WHAT !!!??? fornicate YOU!!!!" and landed some mad combo on him.
Carl should rematch kessler, get the win which i think he can, then try and get a rematch with ward, chances are he wont win but if he does he will have one of the mmost prestigous records in boxing.

All top wins.
As for what his future holds? Seeing as Ward could well be going up long term I think he should try to unify the division and rematch Kessler, a fight I would put my mortgage on him winning. Then call it a day.

Re: When Carl Froch won his 3 World Titles
All great wins, but for me personally the Pascal fight stands out.
For some reason (I don't really know why) I wasn't a big fan of Froch before then, but after watching this fight and the manner of the fight etc. I became a firm admirer.
Since then he has gone from stregnth to stregnth.
He surely is one of the best boxers this country has produced.

The Pascal win is the stand out win for me too.
As somebody has previously said though. The measure of a win is often determined by what the opponent goes on to do in boxing .. very true.
Pascal winning against Dawson is a super result .. but very misleading. Dawson was really putting it on Pascal. Pascal was totally spent at that point ... the cut saved Pascal from a stoppage defeat. The fight is on youtube to see if anybody is unsure..
Abraham was never a s-middle anyways.
And with Bute .. I guess the overwhelming verdict is that he was seriously over-rated.
And Frochs loss to Ward is too yet to be put into perspective. If Ward goes on to be a great champion, then the loss isn`t so bad. If Ward goes on to be just another mediocre belt holder ..

Any fighter in history, no matter how great, can be talked down in this manner, and it still wouldn't mean anything.
Whether it's so-and-so was shot, so-and-so never did anything else at the weight, but so-and-so lost to so-and-so who could only beat so-and-so on points while so-and-so destroyed him in two rounds, etc etc etc.
Why can't you just accept Froch has taken on the best run of opponents in boxing and has some top wins? Noone who knows anything about the sport would contest otherwise. Picking holes in such a record is utterly pointless which is why noone else has even bothered doing it.
Re: When Carl Froch won his 3 World Titles
No - I have never said that Froch has had anything but a series of well meaning fights the last couple years. How could I or anybody else say any differenty??
The point was Pacals win over Dawson was misleading.
I do however still rate Froch`s win over Pascal as his best result and best opponent he has beaten.
The Abraham win and Bute wins whilst great on paper also flatter and decieve.
I have said for a long time now, that Froch is the best value world champion we have in this country. He really offers great value to the fans.
But on the same hand recognise he isn`t a great fighter .. good .. maybe even very good.

Nathan Cleverly on the other hand, now there's a great.

Each to their own mate.
For me Cleverly is yet to be really tested - so for you to put him down as a great is a little premature I think.
But .. it does make a change for him to get some kudos on here instead of the usual bitter jealousy .. so

Oh yeah, I have all the kudos in the world for Cleverly, despite all of my previous negative posts about him. The way he wears that gold WBO trinket of his is the embodiment of gladitorial. It evokes memories of his bruising encounter with all-time great Tony Bellew, as well as his struggle with the feared Karo Murat. Who could forget the epic encounters with Nadjob Mohammedi, who went on to beat George Tevdorashvili, who Chad Dawson is currently avoiding. Aleksy Kuziemski as well, let's not forget Cleverly overcame him, a man who went 11 rounds with Jurgen Brahmer.tonyevs wrote:Riddick Blowe wrote:Nathan Cleverly on the other hand, now there's a great.

With the prized WBO strap, Cleverly is at one with the lineal heritage of light heavyweight, exhuming the spirit of Matthew Saad Muhammad, Mike Spinks, Dwight Qawi.
Uh.. yeah, kudos.

but didn`t you a post or two ago write `Nathan Cleverly on the other hand, now there's a great` ?
Strange you devote so much of your time and effort to bitterness and jealousy of somebody you don`t even know on a personnel basis .. bitterness consumes from within mate.
You need to channel this negative energy into something worthwhile.
Cleverlys success is nothing to do with your failures ... honest :(

Re: When Carl Froch won his 3 World Titles
I dont think anyone has anything against Cleverly, but the fact is, he doesn't really stack up compared to someone like Froch who has taken the toughest possible road to the top.
Froch is maybe not the best in the division, but he's a clear second or at the worst 3rd in most people's eyes, whereas Cleverly is not even really proven top 10. He's had to beat nothing of note to get the WBO belt.
Now I believe Cleverly has the talent to go on to achieve a lot in the sport, but as of right now, it's not being shown in it's best light.

.... um .. but who brought Cleverly into this post? .. and why??
There is no disputing that carl Froch has achieved alot more than Cleverly .. he is after all almost 10yrs older than Cleverly for a start.

Re: When Carl Froch won his 3 World Titles
You can only base your assessment of the performance at the time of the fight. This idea that if the loser subsequently goes into a decline it takes the shine off the victory is seriously flawed in my opinion.
Calzaghe-Lacy is a great example. The revisionists will point to Lacy's subsequent decline as evidence that he was never 'all that' in the first place, thus downgrading the significance of Joe's performance.
My view is that Lacy was a live and dangerous opponent who happened to catch Calzaghe at his absolute best; the sustained nature of the beating he got ruined him as a fighter in my opinion (what were his corner thinking???)
As for Froch, you've got to take his wins against unbeaten fighters like Pascal and Bute on face value in my opinion - particularly in the case of Bute where most people had Carl down as a serious underdog.
If Bute now lurches into a Lacy-like decline it won't devalue Froch's performance in my eyes; it'll simply indicate that he left a big piece of himself in that ring in Nottingham.

Re: When Carl Froch won his 3 World Titles
Safe to say Pascal went on to achieve more than what any of us thought he would. He drea with B-Hop, had him down a couple of times, beat Dawson, massive achievement in itself. He was a genuine light heavyweight world champ. In time Froch's win over him looks even better than we originally thought.
Bute? Great win and who knows, Bute just might bounce back and make adjustments and go on to special things himself. I doubt it though. I think Froch has ruined him.

perfect analagy lacy was the next DLH in the eyes of some but because of the joe beatdown it was as if he was a limited fighter that was lucky to hold a titleRJP wrote:You can only base your assessment of the performance at the time of the fight. Still complexed about Froch & Bute?
Bute is one of the greatest fighters of his generation (loses to Ward beats Kessler and everyone else)
Froch is on his way to taking Ward in his rematch.
Meanwhile everyone here is still taking the lonsdale.

Who takes Froch after he's dismantled Ward & Kessler.
That's the question lol.
(Yes obviously in 175)
Calzaghe might come out of retirement if Froch unifies all the titles.
