Bubi - if you can explain to me how Ashira deserves to be ranked in the world top ten of any governing body at super-middleweight, all my 'problems' disappear. I await your awesome Teutonic logic. "WBO World Super-Middleweight Champion Joe Calzaghe faces a tricky defence of his title against Evans Ashira on Saturday 10 September at the Cardiff International Arena.
The unbeaten Welshman will make a record 17th title defence against the Denmark-based Kenyan knowing that victory is crucial if he is to face rival IBF Champ Jeff Lacy on November 5.
Ashira, who now fights out of Miami, has caused upsets in the past and could wreck Calzaghe's plans of unification.
In his last fight he defeated the previously unbeaten Quentin Smith and two years ago stopped Jerry Elliot - who neither Brian Magee or Howard Eastman, both big punchers, could KO - in nine rounds to underline his danger.
He is ranked #10 in the WBO with only one loss in 25 fights and has held IBF and WBA Intercontinental Middleweight titles."
Told you exactly how they'd try and sell it. However, I did neglect to mention that Evans has been the IBF and WBA Hotelintercontinental champion. At middle. Shame on me.
Calzaghe agasint ...... ahem ...... Evans Ashira

Why did Golota appear as #10 at the WBA? If I would be Don-King-boxer I had a Top 15 ranking like Meehan got it........Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Bubi - if you can explain to me how Ashira deserves to be ranked in the world top ten of any governing body at super-middleweight, all my 'problems' disappear. Yes Bubi, but Golota was a former world title challenger and a genuine heavyweight, it's not like he was a cruiserweight who had been knocked out at the weight and then fought at heavyweight and got a title shot.BubiScholz wrote:Why did Golota appear as #10 at the WBA? Ashira had had exactly 0 fights at Super Middle, there's no way he should have been eligble for a title shot.

The fight was boring i thought. People were walking out after the 3rd round, some went after the Khan fight. The fight of the night was the doherty fight which i thought he nicked it on the last 2 rounds. Doherty by 1. Its the sort of fight Doherty didnt box well. but i would like to see a rematch in a year.
You can rewatch highlights of the Calzaghe fight at ITV Boxing's website.
