Calzaghe-Lacy a no-go bout now!

Post by barry »

It doesn't surprise at all as I certainly expected it back when Calzaghe stated making pre-excuses as to a possible injury occuring. Now Gary Shaw has said that Calzaghe will have to come to the United States if he wants the fight, but there is about as much of a chance for that as there was a chance that the fight was actually going to happen to begin with! Well, Calzaghe's future looks like it may just have a third showdown with Mario Veit in it, or maybe a rematch with Mger Mkrtchian! I'd be very disappointed if I were a big Calzaghe fan!

I've seen all this somewhere before!
Anyone know how long this injury is going to keep him out for?

Calzaghe won't go to the USA, he will say Lacy is ducking him. I still can't get over the fact that a guy like Lacy who has been a champion for a year and barely fought anyone can be Calzaghe's "Defining fight". Lacy along with Kessler, Beyer, Green, Mundine etc should just boycott Calzaghe and have a little tournament of there own to decide No. 1

I can't imagine Kessler or Beyer wanting to fight Lacy. Well, maybe kessler. But those fights are just too obscure for Jeff, they'll have a nightmare getting them made, and noone in the US knows them anyway.

The most sensible thing as far as Lacy is concerned is just move up to light heavy where the fights are more obvious.

Lacy v Kessler could be made IMO.

ASlong as Lacy is willing to travel and take small purses then he shouldn't have too much trouble getting Kessler or Beyer.

Calzaghe is a joke and hopefully everyone can see that now including the general public.

They don't though do they, they all buy into the whole 'brave and courageous' Calzaghe for winning with one hand, it makes me sick

Did anyone else notice Joe's reaction to a body punch early on in the fight. He didn't like it one bit, in fact he seemed more concered about protecting his body than his chin when he came foward. Thats a real weakness I think thats been exposed. Byron Mitchell defenitely hurt him to the body also.

have there own little tournament to decide no1 and leave out the no1 rated fighter in the division. :-? great idea they should do that in every division. :D

According to here Lacy was offered to fight Joe in September.

http://www.allegedly.tv/fw4/mainheadl ... om=&ucat=1&

But he had to fight Reid as a mandatory and he would of pushed it for his shot most likely.

Yeah they should, especially if the allegedly (sorry Frank) No. 1 won't fight anyone. "Kessler isn't well know enough" no Joe but fornicating Ashira and Mkritchian are household names we all want to see you fight....idiot.

Plus who is Lacy's side to decide when the fight happens? They knew Joe had an upcoming fight and they knew of these mishaps. They could be using this to there advantage to make Lacy look good and make Joe look bad since people don't trust him nomore.

That's exactly what they are doing. Not to sound like I am defending Joe, but this is mainly spiel to make Lacy look like he is the best and Joe is a chump that will now need to chase Lacy (the f*cking challenger!) for a fight. It's easy to say, but if I was Joe, I wouldn't be too concerned. Doesn't matter what people think of Joe or the belt he holds, he still has it, he's still unbeaten. If Lacy really wants to prove his worth, he'll make that fight happen in Feb.

Calzaghe was never going to get in the ring with Lacy to begin with - He is terribly overrated and knows Lacy takes him out inside of 8 rounds -

Lacy should just move on and let Calzaghe do what ever the hell he wants.

Nobody cares about Calzaghe anymore. This whole thing is Calzaghe fault. He had a super fight schedule with Lacy. The only big fight at 168 lbs. And he put it all in jeopardy when he decided to fight that bum last saturday.

And I'm not even a fan of Lacy. I just think Lacy and Calzaghe are now on two different path.

I think Lacy should fight a guy like Scott Pemberton on nov. 5th.

Pemberton is ranked 5th by the IBF. He is looking for a payday since his fight with Danny Green was canceled. The guy beat Sheika twice in "fight of the year" candidates.

This should make a good fight.

How exactly is Lacy the challenger? He has the better belt of the two of them for a start. Lacy is prepared to take on all comers, can we cay the same about Calzaghe?

From Lacy's perspective does he really want to wait until February when he doesn't even know if Calzaghe will make it to the ring on fight night? If I were him I would explore other options in the meantime Calzaghe is about as reliable as the rhythm method!

Are you cats really that gulliable, or are you just big Calzaghe fans, which would be a lot more understandable? Even if Lacy agreed to come to Wales in February, Calzaghe will just continue to put the fight off in big hope that someone might come along and get lucky and knock Lacy out, but I don't really see it happening, so now Calzaghe will have to come over here...and very rightly so. Calzaghe is a chump of the highest degree and he really, really looks like a coward now, which I don't like to say about any fighter, but my God, he was making excuses a month ago.

Unfortunately for him, his career highlight will be the win over old Chris Eubank that happend many, many moons ago. By the way, Calzaghe isn't the number one super middleweight, he had a chance to be, but Beyer and Lacy both have better credentials at this point...Calzaghe will fade away jusy like all of the early WBO champions that only hardcore fans remember!

I think its safe to say, a lot of people have given up on Calzaghe now, me included. We've put up with the likes of Salem and Veit, while being promised Hopkins, Jones, Woods etc, and when he finally gets the chance to make ammends for these fights by signing to fight Lacy, this happens.
Fair enough, he's injured, and he can't fight injured, but why run the risk of injury by fighting a pointless warm up 2 months before his 'defining fight'?

The idea was to put him in with someone who isn't a threat, but give him a tune-up which makes perfect sense. It should never have been a world title defence, but he did need to fight.

Calzaghe's hands are probably badly fucked at this stage of his career, so there was a fair chance of this happening.

Funny how Calzaghe is saying Lacy is not a hard fight for him yet he insisted on a tuneup? If its such a straightforward win for him he should have gone straight into the November fight with Lacy. I'm afraid to say his arse has gone. I don't expect to see it next year.

I cant understand why he needed a warm up fight in the first place. If you're hands are fucked and likely to go why risk it?

It would only have been 7 months between his last fight with Veit in April and his proposed fight with Lacy in November. He went 8 months between his fights with Mitchell and Mkrtchian and another 8 to his next fight with Salem. He's never been the most active boxer in the world and when was the last time he fought twice in 2/3 months?
