ASlong as Lacy is willing to travel and take small purses then he shouldn't have too much trouble getting Kessler or Beyer.
Calzaghe is a joke and hopefully everyone can see that now including the general public.
Yes Kessler and Lacy could be made (and should be) since Kessler seems to willing to travel. His last fight was in Australia. So a big fight in America could be possible next year.
Beyer on the other hand is not going to travel. He is making too much money taking easy fights in Germany (exception is Green). But there could be money to be made fighting him in Germany but Lacy would probably have to be the mandatory challenger to get the fight.
But this injury is just what is going to make Calzaghe's reputation go from bad to worse. I will be hard even for die hard fans to believe that he is ever going to deliver. It is a shame because i really believed in him and his abilities a couple of years ago.

Lacy cannot become a mandatory challenger for Beyer's title as he is the IBF champion. They dont rate each others champions.
Of course he needed a tune-up, that's ridiculous. Lacy has already fought twice this year, and Calzaghe would have been out of the ring since May, which is hardly ideal.
There was always a risk of injury, but I have a feeling this fight will never happen now.

Rubbish, he's made a career out of fighting twice a year why did he need a fight 2 months before the Lacy fight. Calzaghe is the worst actor I have ever seen, that act he put on at the end for the cameras with his hand was all a bit too rehearsed for my liking. I don't doubt the injury is real but it all seemed a bit staged at the end.
Not so sure about being staged but Calzaghe did have a "Oh well not to worry maybe next time" attitude about it all, he is not getting any younger and at 33 needs these fights asap in my view.
why's it ridiculous? over the past 4 years since he fought Veit in april 2001 he's averaged a fight every 6 months, which is twice a year. fighting lacy in november would've been no different than normal.
Difference is Lacy is a much more dangerous opponent. I wouldn't want to fight for a genuine title after having 7 months off. It's ok when you are facing Mger and Kabary, but not Lacy.
fair enough, lacy is far more dangerous than salem and mkrtchian but i don't see why he would risk the chance of a big fight when he's been harping on for years that people have been ducking him especially with his history of injury problems.
He shouldn't have fought 7 weeks before the scheduled Lacy fight. Even though he is down to his fighting weight he still should have 5-6 weeks of sparring/preperation for Lacy. This would have been a huge task for Joe and he should need to be very proffesional and prepare like a champion.
That means he really only had a week (max of two) to get over the aches and pains and to recharge his batteries (both mental and physical) to prepare for Lacy.
The only way this fight was acceptable was if team Calzaghe felt it was going to be a blow out, and if they felt like that, then they shouldn't have taken the fight cause he gained nothing for it.
It would have been better if he would have had effective sparring as oppose to this "match", the sparring might have been more competitive. Any injury, a slight cut or bruising would have worsend his chances vs Lacy. It was silly fight and not needed.
The whole idea was to give him a guy bad enough to be schooled by a one handed fighter, while ALLEGEDLY pretending to break his hand during the fight. He has NEVER wanted to fight Lacy and I don't blame him, he knows just as we do that Lacy would blast him out in the middle rounds. People who think the injury is genuine need to wake up and smell the coffee. Franky's Golden Bollocks Hatton has gone, Calzaghe getting out-classed by Lacy just months later would virtually end Warren's chances of big money for a good while. If Calzaghe thinks he is a true great and a great champion he is hugely mistaken, the Lacy fight would have finally gained him some respect but now this has happened he will forever go down as a ducker and all talk, no actions.
