Really difficult question
Really difficult question
I'm speaking as someone who does not know the details of boxer/manager contracts but here's a thought .
If the Chisora v Haye fight goes ahead and Chisora's manager/promoter appears before the Board and has his licence revoked , for say , 2 years , where does that leave any fighter he manages?
Does that mean they no longer have a manager and can negotiate with others ? Or does it mean that the manager/boxer contract is still enforceable in law , but they cannot fight ,without a recognised manager , on any bill sanctioned by the Board ?
How can you have a manager who may not have a licence to manage ?
It's really a nightmare scenario isn't it . What a really difficult position for people like Dean Powell and Mick Williamson to be in . If they are involved in the promotion they know they will be brought before the Board and given their previous stance it is extremely likely they are going to be banned ( or whatever term may be applied ). So they would not be able to be in the corner for ANY show in Britain sanctioned by the Board .
It just gets worse doesn't it .

Re: Really difficult question
It doesn't get worse mate - that's been the Board's stance from the outset.
Re: Really difficult question
He'll subcontract them to another promoter or get Maggie Fart from down the road to apply for a licence.
Re: Really difficult question
Second option wont work as a managers licence is the one licence where you had to have another licence in boxing for three years before you can apply for a mangers licenceJDC wrote:He'll subcontract them to another promoter or get Maggie Fart from down the road to apply for a licence.

Cant they get an LBF managers license?jonp wrote:Second option wont work as a managers licence is the one licence where you had to have another licence in boxing for three years before you can apply for a mangers licenceJDC wrote:He'll subcontract them to another promoter or get Maggie Fart from down the road to apply for a licence.
Re: Really difficult question
Yes but then they cannot manage a fighter appearing on a Board-licensed show. So unless the manager's entire stable are promotionally affiliated with Warren he or she will have serious problems going forward. It's the same with cornerman who train fighters across several promotional groups.kingfinn wrote:Cant they get an LBF managers license?jonp wrote:Second option wont work as a managers licence is the one licence where you had to have another licence in boxing for three years before you can apply for a mangers licenceJDC wrote:He'll subcontract them to another promoter or get Maggie Fart from down the road to apply for a licence.

The only thing i am thinking is that warren is a fan of the intercontinental and interim titles, im wondering if he is planning on bypassing the BBBofC all together. Im not sure who needs who more, hasnt FW bailed them out before

Re: Really difficult question
Yes but now, unlike then, he is not the only promoter staging big events. To break away successfully he needs a good amount of fighters willing to break away from the Board. The struggle to assemble the Upton Park undercard indicates he does not have this support yet.

not just struggeling but having some of his bigger name fighters leave aswell as the less well knowndbflex wrote:Yes but now, unlike then, he is not the only promoter staging big events. Perhaps but that's largely unrelated to July 14.Adamj1987 wrote:not just struggeling but having some of his bigger name fighters leave aswell as the less well knowndbflex wrote:Yes but now, unlike then, he is not the only promoter staging big events. Re: Really difficult question
To my understanding it's a BBBof C contract rather than a contract between the fighter and the manager, therefore the situation will be dependent on however the Board reacts to those taking part in the show. The initial Board statement spoke of members being considered to have relinquished their licences by taking part in the show, which sounds pretty final - all over for them. But I suspect they won't or maybe can't go that far by law so maybe fines or suspensions will be the routes available to them. This would make most sense anyway because it does nobody any good to cause a split in British boxing - or in this case make one worse. My assumption, though, would be that the loss of a Board manager's licence would leave the fighters unmanaged according to the Board. I might be wrong, but that seems logical to me.
