Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
I quite enjoyed watching 40+ year old Jody Allen knocking out Justin Kallu in Sydney late last year ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Kallu's first fight and Allen's last of 2 wins.
By the way Rogue, any clues as to who the boxer interviewed was? I don't know what it is like over there but Sunday papers are notoriously loose with the truth here.

No idea who and was quite surprised to see this story as not much NZ scribes bar this guy Killgallon who actually take the time to research and write.Brute wrote:Kallu's first fight and Allen's last of 2 wins.

Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
It was still fun to watch. Kallu had about 50 supporters there all with t-shirts with there lads name on the front (and rather puzzling god's on the back) and he got beaten Allen caught the bus back to the city after, hopefully with 2 grand.Brute wrote:Kallu's first fight and Allen's last of 2 wins.

Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Allen has lived in Sydney for a couple of years. He and Kallu both have very ordinary records.
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
We've always known that Kiwi's were used here as stepping stones and stepping stones only, with the odd occasional Berridge, Cameron or Siale and so on.
Paz was, let's face it a very below par fighter, and if he came to Australia he was never asked to lose, i mean com'n it's Paz Veijo.
Taliemera would be another laughable claim. As well as the other severly over weight 5'9 heavyweights
I hope this wakes Aussie promoters up though, rather surprised Craig was as vocal as he was, good young bloke trying to make it, hopefully people respect were he was coming from.

Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
I'm struggling to understand what that article was supposed to 'expose'.
You need a pool of regular 'losers' to build prospects records on. That's the way it is in boxing all over the world.
What's so surprising that Australia looks to its closest same language neighbour to supply some of them?
They don't lose because they are holding back; they lose because they are not good enough. And that is known before the fight starts. Occasionally you will see a prospect exposed; that's why we tune in.

I suspect it's Dion McNabney http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxerBrute wrote:Kallu's first fight and Allen's last of 2 wins.

Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
McNabney losing a fight is a pretty common occurrence and the WBF regional titles mean less than most titles.
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
The quotes used were not 100% accurate but the point remains the same.
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Four grand does not seem like a lot of money to risk your health for, even if it is cash in hand.
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Depends who you asking I suppose brute, 4k to some people is ALOT of money. So long as they have under taken a proper medical and have been cleared by the commission, I have no problems with them fighting.
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Things must be tough. A New South Wales Police Constable would take home more than that in a month.

A Probationary Constable has a starting salary of nearly $60,000 per annum, you ignorant moron.Giancarlo wrote:Yeah, but how much of that is "under the table"?Brute wrote:Things must be tough. A New South Wales Police Constable would take home more than that in a month.

Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Just to steer this thread back towards the course, we aren't too bad in creating our own cannon fodder! This is just from the current schedule, with these poor blokes still stepping up for more flak in the ring:
- Matthew Seden: 0 - 5(2) - 1
- Chad Roy Naidu: 3(2) - 13(7) - 4
- Paul Bourke: 2 - 6(5) - 1
- David Smith: 2 - 7(6)
- Matthew Seden: 0 - 5(2) - 1
- Chad Roy Naidu: 3(2) - 13(7) - 4
- Paul Bourke: 2 - 6(5) - 1
- David Smith: 2 - 7(6)
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Brute, unfortunately 95% if not more of the guys heading over to OZ to fight are not Police Officers or in any type of employment that offers those salaries. Most if they are employed at all are earning minimum wage or just slightly above, with families that need taking care of. So $4'000AUD instantly sounds appealing especially with currency conversion the kiwi boys pick up an extra $500-800 or so, maybe more. For the ones that are getting in there to earn a buck to help support there families, I say good on them. BUT so long as they have undergone proper medicals and been cleared to fight by there commission.
Some guys have terrible looking records but are actually quite capable fighters, they have just never had the luxury of being matched appropriately to begin with or the chance to train as they should, of course theres also those who choose not to train or do bare minimum therefore are usually only good for a round or 2!

They exist in the UK too.
Just an example of 2 currently active:
Sid Razak - 8 wins against 91 losses (but very very rarely beaten inside the distance)
Johnny Greaves - 3 wins against 83 losses (also a very hard man to stop)
They are a respected part of the fight game.
Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Yeah, but I am asking, on average, how much he can expect to make on top of that ie "under the table".
PS, can you try and keep the name-calling to a minimum, you ******* *** *******?

None, scumbag. It isn't Murdoch's mates at The Met.

Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
Everyone is needed in boxing, it's just when it suits who? Have a look at the cards in New Zealand, i'm really surprised people actually attend the shows, worse cards around the world at times. Have a look at the records of the so called top 5 fighters, theýve been fed there whole career.
I agree with comments that it happens all around the world, The US have there fair share as well.

Re: Kiwi cannon fodder for Aussies
The Wood Royal Commission was last century. A probationary Constable is a member of the Force that joined less than a year ago.
The NSW force cleaned up its backyard, the Met's problems are ongoing. Try living in the present.

Well played.
