If the Price v Perez fight comes off and Price wins I see absolutely no sense in coming back and defending the British title, unless it's against Tyson Fury. Beating Perez would propel Price so far above the (with the exception of Fury) UK sceneit would just be a huge step down to be defending his British title. I know a lot of guys here go on about winning it outright but if it's a choice as a fan between seeing Price have more fights at European and World level or winning the Lonsdale belt outright by defending against Skelton, Sprott and Harrison I know what I'd rather.

Surely defending against Chisora or Haye would still make sense as well. I don't think Perez is clearly better than Harrison either.

It is a very good fight for Price though, hopefully it happens.

By Sean McDaniel: An interesting bout between unbeaten British heavyweight champion David Price (13-0, 11 KO’s) and former Cuban amateur star Mike Perez (18-0, 12 KO’s) is being talked about for July 14th on the undercard of the Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia WBC light welterweight title fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Price, 6’8”, a former 2008 Olympic super heavyweight bronze medalist for Britain, is thought by some boxing fans as a potential future heavyweight champion in the pro ranks. He’s not faced any real live opponents as of yet, and the 26-year-old Perez would be a fairly big step up in competition for the lanky Price. Perez can punch and he puts his shots together real well. This could be a dangerous fight for Price if he does indeed take the fight.

Perez, 6’0”, hasn’t done a whole lot since turning pro in 2008. He did, however, capture the Prizefighter International heavyweight tournament in May of last year with wins over Kertson Manswell, Gregory Tony, and Tye Fields. But beating the likes of those types of heavyweights and then trying to do the same thing with the hard hitting Price is a whole different thing altogether.
Price recently defeated Sam Sexton by an impressive 4th round TKO last month. In other significant bouts in Price’s short three year pro career, he’s beaten John McDermott, Tom Dallas, Rafael Butler and Osborne Machimana all by knockout.

Price has been knocking out everyone early lately, and it’s going to be interesting what happens when he finally faces someone that is good enough to either take his power or elude his big shots. Price has a questionable chin, as he’s been stopped by big punchers in the amateur ranks who were able to score victories when they were able to hit him with hard shots.

A bout between Price and Perez would be huge for both fighters, as the winner of that bout would likely see himself get pushed up into the top 15 in the world rankings.

he tweeted that he might be fighting in atlantic city on july 27th but any talk of possible opponents is just hearsay.

He seemed like the obvious choice for either of them for their next fight and he said he wanted to fight them.

I just watched Price v Sexton (behind the times I know), and I was really impressed by what I saw, does anyone know what his agenda is and what is next fight is likely to be?

In the absence of knowing what does everyone think it should be, if you were in Frank Maloney's position.

My thoughts are that he's clearly a classy boxer and has massive potential to go far, however I think he should resist the temptation to fight the best strait away, he could end up like Enzo Macaranelli getting to the top without being too badly challenged and then finding himself in hot water and unable to recover his confidence, though confident he still makes some mistakes that need ironing out, particularly he struggles to make enough space to do work.

I think there are some very exciting British fights for him and seeing him fight a couple of; Fury, Skelton, Chisora, Harrison or Sprott would certainly give him experiance of fighting people comfortable with a pro style and help him develop, Pulev the European champion looks ripe for picking also although I would rather see him take a couple of fights before being propelled into difficult European defences.

What does everyone think, I'm well up for going to Price vs Fury in the Eco arena - I know he says he doesn't want it - and think a fight with Sprott could be sold as a British title defense.

He has said they won't be looking for a Klitschko fight for 18 months to 2 years. So you would imagine that he is planning to pick up the EBU title within his next few fights then fight some of the gate keepers.

FM has been very clear that he believes taking Price around the world to get the best sparring is the most important part of his development. Even more so than how and when they step up his opposition.
