Pieterson can only get better indeed... that is the scary thing!

First test series???????????

He's surely going to become awesome. Collingwood should remain in the side at the expense of Ian Bell, with Simon Jones coming back in. That's the first 11 in my view.

Collingwood is a great player, but not a test no4 - which is what we need.... dropping bell and bringing in Colly would fornicate with the balance of the side I think.... if Bell is to be dropped, it should be for a genuine no4 batsman.

Agree about KP though.... looks like the muts nuts... him and Freddie at 5 and 6 is unbelievable.

Check these out.... I'll be getting the prison one

I wasn't suggesting Colly to bat at four, but you could shuffle the order up for him to bat after Flintoff at 6. (Pieterson 4, Flintoff 5, Colly 6).

first off you need to know its the ENGLAND AND WALES cricket board.

Scotland have thier own national team, the irish to my knowledge dont play to any decent level.

Many great wleshman have played for England over the years so your argument is flawed in the extreme. (Tony Lewis, Mathew maynard, Robert croft, Gerg thomas, Simon jones and geraint jones out of the present team are welsh)

Glamorgan in wales have been a hotbed for talent for many years so the anti- wales - nick arghumebnt is defunct.

Anyway just come back form the trafalgur day parade and i say i fell like crap.

did i enjoy it, yip every bloody second. :TU:

thats the second win for England over Oz as i was at hatton zoo aswell, shame im not in oz this xmas hey hahah.

being serious amazing series played in great spirit and well done both teams for the fighting spirit you have shown in games that have ebbed and flowed as only the very best of sport can.

thanks to you Shane, thank you Glenn may you enjoy your retirement when it comes, its was a pleasure and honour to watch you play on these shores.

as for the team the Aussies will come hard with a couple of new faces to join clark, tait and some of the old gaurd for one last hurrah when we return to the big red isle.

ive a funny feeling the next series coudl be just as wonderful as this was.

long live cricket, im going to bed.

p.s. if anyone text called or tried to contact me by fone from sunday on, ive lost my fone, shock horror.

But then you're altering the balance of the team. Colly is a very similar batsman to KP and Freddie.... we don't need another big hitter like that.... what we need is a genuine no4.... a Graham Thorpe style player.

Evil Glenda's Words Of Wisdom

Glenn McGrath on the Ashes scoreline:
"I think I was saying 3-0 or 4-0 about 12 months ago, thinking there might be a bit of rain around. But with the weather as it is at the moment, I have to say 5-0."

Glenn McGrath on keeping the Poms down:

"To me body language is the biggest key, and that is one thing Australia does so well. During the last two one-dayers it was quite obvious to see that England's body language has dropped - it was terrible. That to me is a sign that it won't take much to get on top of them for it to really quieten down."

Glenn McGrath on why he's so confident:
"Deep down, they don't really believe they can beat us,"

Glenn McGrath on working out Kevin Pietersen:
"It has been good to see Pietersen before the Test match. The way he plays, I think he is very much suited to the one-day game. we have seen a few things in the last few weeks to enable us to make a plan up of how to bowl to him that we think will be quite successful this summer. It's been good to see how he bats.I am sure we will work out where he doesn't like hitting the ball and try to keep it there. We have picked up a few things in the one-dayers, certain shots he plays, and I think we've got a pretty good gameplan ready to go from what we have seen."

Er, 150 was it, Glenda?

Shall We Have Some More Ausssie Pre-Ashes Predictions? Oh, Why Not...

Neil Harvey on going through undefeated: "With Steve Waugh's team and during the last ten years when England have been down, they still weren't able to do it and I'm not sure why. They should do it this year, I reckon. They are not playing many games, let's face it."

Terry Alderman: "I definitely believe if any of our batsmen get out to Giles in the Tests they should go and hang themselves. But I'm confident that won't happen."

Jeff Thomson:
"Hoggard's like a net bowler when you compare him to McGrath and Kasprowicz."

Jeff Thomson:
"England will lose the five-Test series 3-0 and the margin will be worse for them if it doesn't rain. If you put the players from Australia and England up against each other it is embarrassing. There is no contest between them on an individual or team basis."

Terry Alderman:
"If Australia get away to a good start then England have got no chance. They have got to be competitive in that first Test at Lord's or else it's goodnight."

J,

How come they NEVER refer to it as the England and Wales cricket team?

Also, you lost me with this word "arghumebnt". Is it Welsh?

Zendo its always been referred to as just England, thats the way it is I am afraid. Jones was the England's best bowler in the series without doubt with his reverse swing, so I'm fairly happy! Not sure about the other Jones with the gloves though he cant even catch straightforward balls.

You have to admit if England were in the Aussies position going into this series having never lost to there opponents you to would be predicting similar things.

hmmm i dont think it would be quite that brash Ben. Bet you dont hear anyone preditiing a 5-0 win in 18 months from the england camp.

Also to say Kasrpowisc is better than Hoggard is fornicating delusional and always was.

Ive watched Kasprowisz a long time and he is not better than county standard.

Never has been. For my mind bichel should have always played ahead of Kasp in the past and Tait should do so now.

then again Jeff thomsons was a great bowler but always has been out of the David Campese book of biggoted annoying wankers.

maybe now he will shut the frigg up

fair enough mate, mcgrath was actually class at the weekend, as we sang stand up if you are two one up, he sat down on the outfield.

shows a softer more humane side.

I think winning once in 20 years is not worthy of predicting a 5-0 whitewash but 20 years of dominance is. Agree with the Bichel thing i don't know why he got dropped for Kasp maybe he screwed the captians wife or something.

totally agree but really you shouldnt predict a whitewash ever. leave it to the pundits concentrate on your game. It just a cauise to fire the other team up.

they knew this was gonna be one of the toughest tests as England were unbeaten for 2/3 years also in test series.

not gonna citicise Glenn too much he is one of the best the game has ever seen. So a certian amount of arrogance is catered for.

at the end of the day if you are the best it aint being arrogant just truthful.

hows the press been down under ben?

i hoep they arent on Pontings case too much, i genuininely like him and while he aint the best captain out there, his little hissy fit aside, he behaved impeccably when interviewed and came accross really well.

I dont think it was his fault as such, he just made as many errors as other players who didnt perform to the level we know they can. He certianly had a as big a part as any in saving the old trafford test.

He has been dragged through the mud, People like Denis Lillee and co calling for his head and wanting Warne to take his place. Mostley but the selectors and coach have copped most of the blame and also bad decisions like sending England to bat on a batters pitch in the 3rd match.

Hayden, Martyn and Katich are copping the most flak not so much the bowlers.

Could Warne really be made captain with all the off field antics? Can't see it myself although I have no doubts he would be a good skipper.

Who else is there should they decide Ponting is not the man for the job? Over the summer Katich was mentioned as a future captain, but he's barely hanging onto his place with the bat let alone skippering the team!

thats a shame. And gilchrist isnt copping any?

diont agree with warne being made captain, that should have happened when Waugh retired but it couldnt , Shane i read this am, is contemplating his future and realistically is only gonna play another 18 months.

Martyn and katich were poor but so was gilchrist, Kasp and gillespie were rubbish so they shold cop just as much in my mind.

I dont think its fair to blame the captain totally, and the decision to bat 2nd i hasten to add would have been discussed with the team not just RP making the call.

my team Aussie would read as follow if I were selecting a game tomorrow

Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, Watson, Gilchrist, warne, lee, mcgrath, tait.

Gilchrist shouldn't take any of the blame, he is a wicket keeper and shouldn't be relied on to make all the runs, He has saved our ass many times in the past.
I honestley believe if we can get Hussy,Watson and Symonds in the 11 it would be of great help straight away, Watson and Symonds are decent bowlers and both Hussy brothers are good batters.
I am glad that cricket is in the headlines as it has been sort of forgotten over the past few years.

A little OT, Do any of you blokes play cricket or have you played in the past as there seems to be a lot of knowledge of the sport on this thread.

Yeah I was county shcools under 18 capt and playd til i was 18 for Exmouth a fairly decent side in the south west league, produced a few pro's from the club, Bobby Dawson, Nic and neil Folland and now Matt wood who plays for somerset.

Played club cricket in London for 4 years but packed up due to politics and the time it was taking.

Still love the game and probaly will come back at some point.
