Could have been worse. But laughable that people were talking about Mormeck and Chagaev as possible opponents.

It's gonna be guys like this for quite a while I think.

I think he is gonna up his ranking by beating guys well outside the top 15, but beating so many that he jumps up 1 or 2 spots with each fight, until he is mandatory. It's gonna be a bit frustrating, but I'll be amazed if we see him in with someone we think might beat him for another year yet.

its a reasonable 'marking time' type of fight, trouble is there are too many titles in this day and age so almost everyone of note is waiting for a tilt so they wont dare fight a danger like tyson.

if i had a choice of opponent, it would be helenius...but...i think fury loses that one.

An old clubfighter like Vinnie Maddalone is a step backwards for Fury at this point.

Hennessey has been doing a poor job of managing him this year.

... but this won't do him any favours because it seems Ch 5 want to extend their boxing coverage so this will only prompt them into looking at other Promotors - not to replace, but supplement Hennessey.

Didn't they say he was going to fight a former world title challenger?

This is a step backwards.

To demonstrate how underwhelmed I thought I would be, I'm actually pleasantly surprised at this!

I don't get why Fury gets ripped for the opposition he's fighting.
He's had less than 20 fights - I would argue that the list of -20 fight heavies that have fought better competition than him is a very short one.
Tomaz Adamek was 42-1 and on a 11-fight winning streak when he fought Maddalone in 2010 and no one said anything.
There's plenty of guys around that have been in with softer competition than Fury.

I think people are criticizing his opposition trajectory, not his overall resume.

Adamek should've been criticized for fighting Maddalone.

Adamek may have escaped opprobrium because he was not half a foot taller & three stone heavier, maybe?

He's not a terrible choice on paper, but due to his physicality & age he's got no chance of winning. I think that's what people are maybe trying to get at.

Very true. I recall Adamek getting a bit of stick for not stopping Grant or Mcbride. I wouldn't be shocked if either of those two end up fighting Fury.

Bad fight and no surprises really. Fury and/or Hennessey don't want to step up soon. Helenius & Price would beat Fury.

On the topic of Adamek fighting the same opponent recently. I really don't mind Adamek fighting Maddalone because Adamek fights very good opponents in recent times (Vitali & Arreola) and keeps his mouth shut.

pathetic. this guy isnt even in the top 100 in possibly the weakest division in boxing. Even Monte Barret would be a better opponent.

I think it's because he claims he can beat just about any fighter on the planet, and the fights vinnie maddalone.

It's all the initial talk from the likes of his dad claiming he would've boxed George foremans ears off thats coming back to bite him on the arse.

If he'd have turned over and was just a humble fighter learning his trade I think people would have got behind him, but saying that if he didnt have a gob on him he prob wouldn't have the contract with 5

Vinny Maddelone vs Brian Minto is goddamn comedy gold. For 9 rounds Brick sh*thouse Madalone stalks a horribly out of shape Minto who spends half the fight literally jogging from corner to corner in an effort to evade Vinnys terminator like advances. In the 10th round ( i think, memory sketchy as it was 8/9 years ago) Minto, miles behind on points, lands a hayemaker and sparks Vinny out! When Vinny comes round he asks his corner if he won!

Fury wins this easily and it tells us nothing new about him.

It's going to be a great press conference. Vinnie is a good talker.
