Larry O handed doping ban
Larry O handed doping ban
Just seen on Twitter:
@pkelso: British heavyweight Larry Olubamiwo, aka 'The War Machine' (W10, L3) banned for 4 years for "alarming" multiple doping violations.
Sad news, if true.

Christ, that's terrible. Hope this can be appealed for the big man's sake. We're with you, Larry.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban

If guilty, then it's a good thing he's been caught.

wow, to look at him you'd never think he was juicing...
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Massive shame if true as he seems like a very likable bloke. But if he's guilty then I don't think anyone should feel sorry for him.

Even if it turns out he's a dirty drugs cheat? Do we know if its PEDs or recreational substances he's allegedly tested positive for?Karl Jade wrote:Christ, that's terrible. Hope this can be appealed for the big man's sake. We're with you, Larry.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Admitted taking 13 banned substances, including EPO, HGH and steroids! All his results wiped from record
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Larry was looking for a lawyer on facebook a week ago.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Shit Larry, I thought you were doing it all with beetroot juice.gobbles wrote:Admitted taking 13 banned substances, including EPO, HGH and steroids! All his results wiped from record
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
How has he not got caught until now, if true of course (not that I think gobbles is the type of poster to lie about such matters).gobbles wrote:Admitted taking 13 banned substances, including EPO, HGH and steroids! All his results wiped from record
Disagrace - nice guy or not.... thats a disagrace. This is the hurt business and Larry can count his blessings that, as far as I am aware, his cheating hasn't resulted in any of his opponents getting seriously injured.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Holy shet sad news always liked larry i hope this isn't true
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
13? Unlucky for some. Guessing beetroot wasn't one of them.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Makes McDermott's win look even more impressive now.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Good that he has got the ban he deserves, cheats have no place in the sport

Re: Larry O handed doping ban
If that's true then what the fornicate? Has the guy never been tested, or just hardly ever. It should be you get tested in the dressing room after every fight plus you can be randomly tested at your gym at any point for as long as you hold a licence with the board.gobbles wrote:Admitted taking 13 banned substances, including EPO, HGH and steroids! Boxing seems to be absolutely shite at drugs testing. Athletics seems just as bad as well as cycling. When I played rugby for my university it used to be every game a player from each team picked out in the dressing room after the game. Averaged out at a test every few months. And this wasn't professional rugby for Christ sake.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Didn't Curtis Woodhouse say on here a couple of months back that he'd never been tested in boxing and compared this to his career as a footballer.jameswilson wrote:If that's true then what the eff? If true then I'm chuffed Larry has been caught
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Then who pays for it? We've got enough small hall promoters already abusing the Board over costs.jameswilson wrote:If that's true then what the eff? I believe they get tested for all title fights.

Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Independent drug testers who maintain standards across all sports should do it and it should be the Sports council of the uk paying for it. I'm sure it doesnt cost a huge amount Relative to the money put into all sport in the UK. It ain't right that we effectively have different standards in different sports. If Curtis Woodhouse said that then its essentially a case of you can get quite a long way up the boxing ladder as a pro boxer and also take steroids without too much fear.gobbles wrote:Then who pays for it? Re: Larry O handed doping ban
Yeah you can get to at least English level before you are tested. Although the board are now associated with WADA and could if they wished perform random tests if they wished to do so.
Re: Larry O handed doping ban
I have to say I remember how quickly he gassed against Sexton. Thinking back it was a tell tale sign that he was on the juice. For all the love he got for being active on here, it says it all about his natural talent that no matter how many substances he took he still barely put a dent on the Domestic scene.
Good Riddance.
Good Riddance.

Re: Larry O handed doping ban
I feel let down by Larry, i've always encouraged him win or lose.
from what the reports say its been going on for a while. All i hope is Larry helps out the authorities so others can learn from his mistakes.
this is from report
UK Anti-Doping said their investigation into Olubamiwo had emerged from intelligence provided by the US Drug Enforcement Administration relating to the trafficking of anabolic steroids, human growth hormone and insulin growth factor.
UK Anti-Doping chief executive Andy Parkinson said: "This is an extreme example of someone who has engaged in an intentional and uncompromising doping programme over a sustained period with little or no regard for his own health, the reputation of the sport he competed in, or his fellow competitors.
"The list of substances Mr Olubamiwo admits to taking is both alarming and disappointing. However, he is now banned for a period of four years thanks to information which informed our testing programme. This reinforces the fact that testing in the UK is targeted and intelligence-led, and that law enforcement has an invaluable role to play in the fight against doping."
