Eubank says: Calzaghe, Froch, Benn were Lucky!
Paints himself as a victim....
Following on from his views of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Carl Froch, WBO Middle/Supermiddle King of 1990-1995, Chris ‘Simply the Best’ Eubank, gives his verdicts on Pacquaio-Bradley and Haye-Chisora.
Of the controversial Pac-Bradley decision, Eubank said: ‘The judges had a job to do and they did it. There was a lot of missed punches from both fighters, but yes Pacquaio looked to have won it. The other chap, Bradley, had a tremendous muscular lining to his body, may I say.
‘Sometimes, certain insiders certainly will go out of their way to provide a more luxurious hospitality to certain judges, and this can sway their train of view, their scoring. I’m not saying this was the occurrence to cause a decision in the favour of Bradley, but these things do happen in boxing.’
Haye or Chisora?
‘Oh, I mean, you look at the record books; David has mixed in world-class for eight years now and Dereck Chisora has lost his previous three fights, has he? I will say it wouldn’t surprise me if David showed to be a little of a different league, or class, to Dereck!’
Regarding his son, Chris Jr, and his fights being screened on free-to-watch CH5 in the UK, Eubank points out the importance of early career exposure.
‘I kind of did it the other way around, in that I became a big star in mainland Europe before I became a big star in the United Kingdom, with my fights of the 1989/90 season beemed right across West Europe.
‘I would’ve given my favorite tooth to have the kind of exposure in this country that Nigel Benn and Audley Harrison had at the beginning of their careers. And I gave 10 years of my life for my son to have it now.
‘Through Benn, I expertly used ITV to enhance my public image of the man they love to hate and rake it in at the box office.
‘But you can only do that with free TV and not on the likes of Sky. My son has the ferocious ability to catch the imagination in the way Tyson did and the way Benn did, (and) the way Naseem did; but he must be kept busy and exposed to the wider public.’
I pointed out to Chris that the big discussion on many of the boxing forums of recent years was his supposed lack of meaningful opposition during his infamous title run. He was keen to set the record straight!
‘The difference between me and Nigel Benn and me and Joe Calzaghe and me and Carl Froch, is that I fought the fighters that nobody else would face whereas they fought the fighters that everybody else wanted to face.
‘The big names weren’t lining up to face me like they were for other middleweights and super-middleweights out of the United Kingdom. So I was left with the fights that the big names avoided and cleaned up.
‘Nigel, Joe, Carl – two world title fights in a year. Eubank fought five to six to seven world title fights in a year. Who took on all-comers? Let’s be objective!’

Re: Eubank says: Calzaghe, Froch, Benn were Lucky!
funny how Benn managed to take on such harmless fellows like Mclellan,Barkley,Sanderline Williams (1 of the biggest MW spoilers in the late 80s) Nardiello and Dewitt
Graham fought Mccallum, Kalambay,and Jackson.....
Watson fought Mccallum and Don Lee.
I dont recall Eubanks fightinng Mclellan, Mccallum, Barkley, Williams, Jackson or Kalambay.
In fact the Benn,Watson and Rocchigiani victories aside its clear Eubanks never fought or beat a bona fide top ten American in his life
Still the man is a legend and his two battles with Thompson tell me the man would fight anyone if the money was right

It's silly to take out 3 of his better wins and then make that comment. You are saying that if he hadn't done what he did; he wouldn't be able to do it...mugabi wrote:In fact the Benn,Watson and Rocchigiani victories aside its clear Eubanks never fought or beat a bona fide top ten American in his life

It's also funny that the Benn, Watson and Rocchigiani victories included, he still never fought a 'bona fide top ten American in his life' ;)
That's not true by the way, John Jarvis was in the top ten, Ron Essett was in the top ten, Lindell Holmes was a former champion and Tony Thornton was ranked #1 by everyone.

He did beat Dennis Milton in both of their last ever amateur fights, and Milton was favourite to win Olympic Gold the year before and WBO #1 contender at the time of Benn/Eubank I, FWIW!
Random fact.

he is a cock end, always has been always will be.
an entertaining cockend bordering on irritating but a cock end all the same.
I have heard more revisionist theories for Eubank over the years than Tory governements PR officer. And to be fair to both whiel they raise a wry smile, I dont take any of it seriously.

I respect the man as a fighter, but he has the verbal shits and talks utter cobblers much of the time. He's a bleedin weirdo really, there' no denying that he has a little bit of a screw loose.

What a complete tool Euwank is. We could really do with a wanker Icon for posts that have his bollocks involved.
He should thank his lucky stars how his career turned out, he got lucky so many times. A fair few results could have so easily gone against him. He wouldn't have dared go to the US and take on a real contender or challenge a real champion. I never viewed Euwank as a genuine world champion and his pathetic comments just wreak of insucurity and jealously

Jarvis: Second choice opponent and FAR from world class
Thornton: Good tough underrated fighter but was no McCallum, Toney, Jones, Nunn, Mcclellan or Kalambay
Essett: As above

Didn't Lindell Holmes take Sanderline out, and Tony Thornton defeat Sosa a year following Sosa's victory over said Sanderline? Ron Essett looked to have beaten him too in a battle of slipperiersmugabi wrote:funny how Benn managed to take on such harmless fellows like Mclellan,Barkley,Sanderline Williams (1 of the biggest MW spoilers in the late 80s) Nardiello and Dewitt
