Professional boxing is run by a board of control, they should be producing a safe environment for boxers to compete in where boxers who are abusing the rules should have the book thrown at them (which has happened with Larry, but it isn't happening regular enough due to poor drug testing practices)
Child care/protection is run by social services, they should be producing a safe environment for children to live in and people who are abusing the rules should have the book thrown at them.
The board of control hold a large part of the responsibility for things like this as they're failing to provide a safe platform by pretty much willfully ignoring drugs cheats (implied by their inadequate testing procedures), obviously the cheat/abuser are also massively to blame (as I'm not trying to say Larry is blame free here, just that he's not solely to blame)
IMO It's like Cameron blaming Jimmy Carr for tax avoidance when it's Cameron (and co) who have the power to block up the loopholes
[this was a reply to Machos post which has been deleted]
Some people will always try and bend the rules into their favour in whatever aspect of their life (it's human nature IMO), that's why we have authorities and rules to try and stop this happening. If you're relying on the goodness of the human heart to rid boxing of PED's then you're living in a very idealistic and unrealistic world Taff.
Whether you like it or not the governing bodies have a responsibility to ensure boxers aren't getting unfair advantages, which it doesn't look like they're doing
Larry O: a quick response

Re: a quick response
You are the joke on this matter Mug, by the way I have corrected the spelling mistakes and grammar on your post to such an extent that I could at least understand what you had said, I now wish I hadn't as it is utter tosh. To use words like Man, Integrity and honourable about a drug cheat is absolutely laughable.mugabi wrote:I think with a troll like you, you just seem to be getting off on the fact that you can sit on your keyboard and get off on the attention you are getting from a man like Larry O.allahsnackbar wrote:It's not about me.warmachine wrote:and i suppose u r wth that stupid name
You can't argue with anything I have said Larry, and deep down you know that.
For what it is worth, I completely agree with you that PED use is rampant in boxing.
Still makes you a cheat and you would still be cheating if you didn't get caught. Can you deny that? Don't dodge the question.
The fact of the matter is you're just a nobody and your opinion cant be taken seriously, you just want to be as negative and lacking in integrity as possible behind your anonymous online facade.
Anyone who can't see this 4 year ban is sickeningly extreme and disproportionate is primitive in their thinking. The zealots at the BBBC just want to make a political point with the olympics around the corner and this honourable man has had his ability to make a living jeopardised.
Frankly I cant imagine any other boxer of such a profile taking the time out to listen to all of these remarks good and bad with such patience and class.
Perhaps he is better off in acting, but he should have a choice in the matter and the 4 year ban is ludicrous.

Four year bans should have been applied to Jones, Mosley and Toney, too. Boxing needs consistency.

If the BBBoC put some of their money into an independent organisation and said to carry out drug testing for British title fights and also random drug testing at BBBoC licenced events then it wouldn't cost the small hall promoter anything, we aren't saying the promoters should pay for this, why is an independent drug testing authority so hard to understand.taffytoon wrote: And if you think that every small hall promotion is going to have random drugs test is also very idealistic and unrealistic Chambers.
Re: a quick response
If so easy why does it not take place in amateur boxing, local athletics meets and other sports?jameswilson wrote:If the BBBoC put some of their money into an independent organisation and said to carry out drug testing for British title fights and also random drug testing at BBBoC licenced events then it wouldn't cost the small hall promoter anything, we aren't saying the promoters should pay for this, why is an independent drug testing authority so hard to understand.taffytoon wrote: And if you think that every small hall promotion is going to have random drugs test is also very idealistic and unrealistic Chambers.
Re: Larry O: a quick response
I dont see why people keep bringing up Toney and mosely none of these were judged by the BBBof C the other one i know about Michel Banbula got a two year ban and i should imagine his wasnt quite as extensive as Larry Os .
If there are cases where the board didnt punish the licence holders as serevly fair comment but its no good bringing up examples of american fighters not getting punished by our board.

Jon I am sure like many other trainers you take offence at the claim that the majority of boxers are fighting under the influence of illegal substances, what is your take on the claim buddy?

Its the consistency in World boxing though. One guy across the pond is roiding, and is banned, yet back fighting within 6 months, whereas someone else in the world is banned for four years. They should all be handed long term bans.jonp wrote:I dont see why people keep bringing up Toney and mosely none of these were judged by the BBBof C the other one i know about Michel Banbula got a two year ban and i should imagine his wasnt quite as extensive as Larry Os .

Area title, English/Welsh/Scot title, British title (plus eliminators) and higher standard fights should be tested IMO, plus the odd random small hall test would do metaffytoon wrote:And if you think that every small hall promotion is going to have random drugs test is also very idealistic and unrealistic Chambers.

Boxing definitely needs a doping agency, but as you've mentioned earlier, where the funding comes from to support a doping agency is the issuetaffytoon wrote:I agreeChambers2 wrote:Area title, English/Welsh/Scot title, British title (plus eliminators) and higher standard fights should be tested IMO, plus the odd random small hall test would do metaffytoon wrote:And if you think that every small hall promotion is going to have random drugs test is also very idealistic and unrealistic Chambers.

It does in rugby, football and swimming. Athletics I don't know how high up you get before you get tested on a regular, likewise amateur boxing.taffytoon wrote:If so easy why does it not take place in amateur boxing, local athletics meets and other sports?jameswilson wrote:If the BBBoC put some of their money into an independent organisation and said to carry out drug testing for British title fights and also random drug testing at BBBoC licenced events then it wouldn't cost the small hall promoter anything, we aren't saying the promoters should pay for this, why is an independent drug testing authority so hard to understand.taffytoon wrote: And if you think that every small hall promotion is going to have random drugs test is also very idealistic and unrealistic Chambers.

Doesn't it count as an actual ban from boxing tho? Otherwise there would be a load of guys though history who got a steroid ban and went and fought abroad under a foreign licence.Coco wrote:I guess the Luxembourg board would license Larry now, expect him on the Upton Park show

I imagine it counts as a ban in the same way as Chisora's.jameswilson wrote:Doesn't it count as an actual ban from boxing tho? There is also nothing to stop him fighting on EBF shows. He just won't be allowed to fight on BBBoC licensed shows a la Upton Park
Re: Larry O: a quick response
I don't use here much, But thought i'd say my piece.
Larry i never thought you was or would get to the level you wanted to get to but i respected what you was trying to do. Your story was such a positive one, there's a lot of kids who could before this incident and look to you as a positive role model with a feel good story. Now it's been ruined by this..
You had a chance to do something that could not only change your life but others. You actually boxed well against Sexton in a fight i felt you'd be blown away in. I was actually without knowing you proud of your development. You went from what i felt was a crude banger to someone who was able to box with a good domestic boxer.
Now maybe your one of those guys who's a individual and doesn't care about being a role model if so fair enough not everyone wants to be one but if you want to help 'our' sport for the better then expose the cheats mate. This sport cannot afford another tragedy and some lads are working there socks off grafting hard to be a true clean fighter while someone else looks to cheat and bend the rules.
I know snitching ain't normally the code on the street but end of the day boxing ain't the street and you could turn a real negative into something that may help the sport in the long run.
It looks like some fighters are living lies..
Anyways all the best Larry.

It is what it is and has been for a long time; boxing is getting viewed in a less flattering light now with the better tests etc; I imagine some highly thought of role models falling foul soon.leftysreturn wrote:its not looking good is it!Chambers2 wrote:According to the CS, Antonio Tarver has recently tested positive![]()

Re: Larry O: a quick response
Larry comes across as a nice guy but the "Everyone else does it argument" is piss weak in my opinion. I only pray some of the guys in the sport at the top of the game like Khan, Froch, Haye and Burns dont turn out to be dopers (which i would bet real money they arent). In fact i think they should start opting into random independent drugs testing throughout the course of the year, just to show and prove to the youngsters and other fighters that you can reach the top without cheating.
