Best board for speedball?????

Yeah my speedball board broke, so I was wondering if anyone could advice me what would be the best replacement board to get?
For example, would a 25mm thick MDF board be ok? Or is there better options?

Also would 600mm around be a decent size for it?

I have this one. It's a nice, adjustable, solid system. But the MDF board is crap.....I would like to replace the board with a maple butcher block board. I think a 24" board is plenty.
