Olympic wildcard invitees
Re: Olympic wildcard invitees
I hope Callum Smith gets the nod after being robbed in Turkey.
It's scandalous the way the Turks had zero qualifiers until the qualifying event in TURKEY. Now they have SEVEN. Ridiculous.

If what the Canadian press say, and there is no reason not to, then the AIBA actions are disgraceful. If they made their decisions on Monday and they stated they would let everyone know by Wednesday and now it will be next monday, how can they justify this. They are dealing with young men and women who sacrifice a lot and have had an Olympic dream since they put on gloves for the first time and are being treated like an after thought.
I read Mary Spencer is having trouble sleeping-who wouldnt?

I see from maltaboxing that there will only be two seeds for the women,as I believe Emile stated. This must have taken them hours to decide which two.
51 1 Ren Ren Can
2 Nicola Adams
60 1 Katie Taylor
2 Sofia Ochigawa
75 1 Savannah Marshall
2 Elena Vystropova
It seems to me if you are having seeding then four is the logical choice with twelve boxers.Either that or do not seed anyone.

Today the president of Bulgarian boxing Krasimir Ininski announced that Stoyka Petrova (51) will get a quota for the Games. He received a confirmation by AIBA. Still noting official at AIBA web page
Just read at the Star that Mary Spencer as well got a quota
Probably today or tomorrow AIBA will anounce full list

Canadian boxer Mary Spencer has earned a wildcard to box at the London 2012 Olympics, reports say.
The three-time world champion from Windsor, Ont., was awarded on Monday the lone wild-card berth in her weight class, issued by the International Olympic Committee’s Tripartite Commission.
Spencer was the top seed in her weight class but she lost her opening bout at the women’s world championships in May. The event served as the Olympic qualifier.
Her absence from the London Games would be a blow to the Canadian Olympic team. She’s considered one of Canada’s top hopes for a medal.
The five-foot-11 fighter captured gold at the Pan American Games last fall in Mexico and carried the Canadian flag at the closing ceremonies.
A news conference will held at noon to provide more details.

Any news from Europe? The Swede at 75 made it to the semis, but was still frozen out because she actually finished 4th within Europe. It would be a shame if she didn't get the wildcard.

Ireland's Joe Ward won't be getting a wildcard at l-heavy.
Looks like it's going to a Bosnian.

You would think the AIBA would publish a list of the wildcards on their website by now or am I expecting too much.

Re: Olympic wildcard invitees
Presumably in the womens' categories, there will be 4 byes (as there are 12 boxers)? So in the <51kg, Ren and Adams and 2 others? Or have I read this wrong?
Re: Olympic wildcard invitees
I think Adams and Ren Ren will get byes and be in separate halves of the draw, the other ten will be drawn at random. It would be more sensible to have four seeds who would receive byes but logic is not AIBAS strong point.
