If Mitchell/burns and froch/Kessler went against each other?

Post by jessi »

If the two fights went on opposite channels on the same date at the same time which one will you watch and which one would you record for after ? :witzend:
Or attend ? I really want to go to cheer on Mitchell in Glasgow but if the froch/Kessler fight happens I might choose that one !

Froch V Kessler, even if they were both in their 60s.

I would attend Froch v Kessler and record burns v Mitchell. Problem would be you were guaranteed to know the Burns result before you watched it.

Froch v Kessler is premier league.

Burns v Mitchell in comparison is championship v league one in the carling cup on a wet Tuesday evening.

Are you saying burns is a whole division above Mitchell ?
If I had to compare premier league teams I'd say Mitchell is man utd and burns is everton !

Can I quote you on that on the 23rd of September?

I've seen Burns prove he's capable of fighting at a level above what Kevin has, that's not to say Mitchell can't win but to say he's Man Urd and Burns is Everton is frankly astonishing given what both have done so far in their careers.
Yes you can quote me that on the 23rd of September, you say you find it astonishing that I compare Mitchell and burns as man u and everton ? Ok Mitchell got it all wrong with katsidis, I do believe he wasn't mentally there, yes there's no one to blame but himself, that was his learning fight. I was at burns v katsidis and don't think there was much in it at all, that's not forget there's another common opponent here, Carl johansen, Mitchell took everything he had and stopped him in style, burns lost by fair and square IMO, burns also lost to Alex arthur who spared abit with Mitchell and Alex rates Mitchell (along with f.Gavin) as one of the best fighters his shared a ring with, yes burns has looked good recently and is on a nice little run, and Kevin hasn't fought as much as he should of, but class is permanent and I'm 100% confident that Mitchell will beat burns and prove his levels above !

I'm saying Froch and Kessler are Arsenal and Tottenham ( Ward is the Manchester clubs! )

Burns in comparison is Crystal Palace and Mitchell is Huddersfield.

I'm talking world level, which is how fighters should be rated when contesting a "world title"

But that's an awful comparison, how many clubs between man u and huddersfield ? Now how many fighters between the best lightweight and Mitchell ? Come on, no one is giving Mitchell credit and I can't wait for him to prove everyone wrong !

I was talking about divisions more than clubs to be honest. Thinking about it, it's not an easy comparison to make!

If we say the likes of Ward and Broner are the elite, then Froch and Kessler are mixing it with them at the top level.

Burns is a league below that level and Mitchell has shown he is below Burns thus far.

You honestly think Mitchell is world class? An elite fighter? Neither Burns or Kevin are, Kessler and Froch clearly are, are involved in entertaining fights, especially their first bout, and thats why I would pick to watch them. It's a higher quality fight between two superior fighters operating at a higher level. Clearly too.

Umm, not sure I completely agree with what you are saying even though I can see your point.

I'm not sure how you can say Burns is a "league" below the elite when he hasn't fought them - or him, cause you only mentioned Broner as the elite. Remember, most people thought he was fighting the #1 at Super Feather when he beat Martinez.

Then at the same time you say Froch and Kessler are proven elite when they BOTH got outclassed by the number 1 in the devision.

If its the philosophy that the benchmark is Ward at SuperMiddleweight, and Broner at Lightweight (even though he is a super feather!) - then Kessler and Froch are clearly got outclassed at that level and Burns hasn't fought at that level.

I didn't mean Broner being the elite at lightweight, just saying he is considered the elite in his division.

I didn't do a great job of explaining myself to be fair!

Froch - Kessler is the bigger and better fight, with two better fighters. By a distance.

Look outside the UK and ask the same question. Nobody would choose Burns - Mitchell.
It's popular on the British here because it's a battle of Britain fight and we have posters clearly linked to both fighters creating a bit of needle.

Burns is on a great run but Froch is a modern British great. Mitchell got spanked by a past it Katsidis, himself nothing more than fringe world class and even that could be deemed as being kind.

For me personally, I would like to see Kessler have a second tune up before fighting Froch. I think Kessler looked on the slide in the Froch fight, and his performances since, particularly the Green fight haven't highlighted a return to form.

Great time for Froch to fight him, confidence is sky high - will get great press extra with the home fans also. However, I would be more excited about the fight as a contest if I saw Kessler put on a dominant display in a tune up.

Mitchell vs Burns does intrigue me more, it might not have the significance at world level but I think that they haven't fought each other previously and a mix of styles makes the fight more intriguing at this stage.
