David Price American debut cancelled!!!!!
David Price American debut cancelled!!!!!
Looks like David Prices' American Debut which was set for the July has been cancelled. Along with this Frank Maloney’s contract with Sky has expired and WILL NOT be renewed.
He is hopeful of landing his American debut in August, but that is far from guaranteed, and a long period of inactivity could be detrimental to him as one of the hottest prospects in heavyweight boxing!
It seemed his career was just kicking off, and then these blows, how unfortunate!
So what is next for David Price? Where does he go from here? What do you predict and/or believe should/will happen now?

My apologies, here is the source http://davidprice.co.uk/index.php/80-bl ... -to-forget
It does go on to mention that Frank Maloney is in talks with other broadcasters, Channel 5 or allegedly I would presume.
Channel 5 would be nice as Tyson Fury is on that channel and its free for all to view :)

Re: David Price American debut cancelled!!!!!
For all the talent he possesses which is quite considerable he seems pretty much out on luck. Injury problems, Setanta collapsing which damaged the deal with Hayemaker and then this. Let's hope the cancelling of the American debut sees him defend his British and Commonwealth straps and I think it would be good if Maloney goes on 5 as well as he has a good size stable of fighters.
Re: David Price American debut cancelled!!!!!
Yeah I mean common Channel 5, your crap! Get some contracts going with a few more boxing promoters (Frank Maloney being top of the list and possibly Ricky Hatton) and you could be putting on decent/half decent shows at least every month! Will be the best thing your channel has ever done!IRLangmaid25 wrote:For all the talent he possesses which is quite considerable he seems pretty much out on luck. Does anyone know if the problem lies with Channel 5 or with the promoters, and if so why!?!?! I mean it seems simple business to me, Channel 5 wins because their channel is shit anyway and the promoters win because they get their fights on TV, Freeview as well for all to see!

I do agree that Channel 5 need to open up the chequebook as they have potentially a terrific great opportunity to sign another top promoter. The viewing figures for boxing on their air has been very good so they do need to step up.PokerRob wrote:Yeah I mean common Channel 5, your crap! A serving of brits vs average foreigners 2000-2010 killed sport for sky really. A few corkers, but some awful contests involving border line world level fighters vs knockover jobs were too frequent

Re: David Price American debut cancelled!!!!!
Re viewing figures, ITV regularly doubled the numbers C5 has been getting when they had Khan and still achieved respectable ratings during their Hennessy era. Despite that they still ditched the sport because A. The cost of broadcasting boxing is often prohibitive and B. They would build fighters only to watch them migrate to ppv when they became big-time. C5 has a ppv outlet of their own in Primetime, which may help, but the figures 5 themselves garner are by no means the measure by which to glean whether they will expand their coverage. If it makes them money directly or indirectly I imagine they would consider adding more shows. Huge 'if' though.
Re: David Price American debut cancelled!!!!!
If you change the date to April 14th, which was Tyson Fury vs Martin Rogan you will see, SURPRISINLY, just how poor it did in the ratings, number 10 that week!?!?!MachoMan09 wrote:Re: C5/viewing figures, etc...
I love it when boxing is on Freeview because I don't have Sky TV. I'd be interested to know from anyone who knows, or has an idea, how much it costs for C5 to produce an outside broadcast such as a boxing show compared to airing the sort of fare they normally serve up on a Saturday night. We can all look at the viewing figures on BARB and say "why don't C5 put on more boxing, the viewing figures are amazing..." but viewing figures alone don't tell the whole story. Also, if they put boxing on more regularly, would the impressive viewing figures be maintained or would the abundance of product dilute them?
I wonder if it would be possible for Hennessey and Maloney to reach an agreement whereby Price could be joint top of the bill with Fury on a few shows? Frank?
Now I know it was hardly blockbuster by any means, but coming 2 places behind Robson’s extreme fishing challenge CANNOT be good for the sport!?!?!

Re: David Price American debut cancelled!!!!!
It's hard to believe that Sky build David Price up the way they have, just to cancel Frank's contract like this. You would think that they would at least show David's fights. The next few years and fights are going to be something special for Price and us as fans following him. Disappointing and a decision I'm sure, that Sky and Adam Smith will come to regret.
Everything happens for a reason and I for one can only hope that Price is signed up by channel 5. Just imagine how big David Price would be then... I'm talking back page news on a regular basis.
