Any notion that Ali took Frazier lightly in the FOTC is bullshit.

Frazier believed Ali under-estimated him.

But what would Joe know?

Frazier is as perfect a waiting victim as a young Dempsey could ask for.

Its only a question of how many knockdowns the ref will permit before Frazier is put out of his misery.

The WBA believe they were formed in the 20's.

But what would they know?

Look Irene, I know you have big arms and a tiny balding head (anyone who hasn't seen his amazingly stupid photos should check Other Sports for a great laugh) but do I have to post that post FOTC clip where Frazier states clearly enough for anyone bar Pin Head Nance that he believed Ali (or Clay as you and Nance like to call him) underestimated him?

Actually let me save you all the trouble; Irene in his bedroom reflecting on how he's just made a really cutting post :

What's that thing in the back of your head Irene?

Has your brother been using the back of your head as a dart board?

Well, at least you aren't totally useless...

I'm one of those who thinks Joe trumps Jack.

Can't let that sort of thing set precedent. After all...Barkley beat Hearns, Braddock beat Baer, Buster beat Mike.

Hey, no problem, I respect your opinion.

I just happen to think you are mistaken on this one.

And lets not go the Conn route of mistaking Tunney for a smaller Ali. They had major distinctions.
The Dempsey who lost to Tunney beats The Ali who won vs Foreman? Ali was old vs Foreman but still managed to win.

End of career vs end of career would land Ali in a morgue.

Yes, it would.

Dempsey was demonstrably faded by the end, but nothing like Ali when the curtain fell.

Dempsey (1927) savages Ali (1981).

Better chin than Frazier? Based on what? Dempsey was stagered and dropped by fighters that would have barely buckled Fraziers knees.

Dempsey never faced anyone remotely like Ali. He would be befulled by his combination of size, speed, movement and yes, Ali's power.
Ali clear dec or late tko.
Dempsey was stopped only once in over 83 fights, and that was a likely dive. Dempsey getting dropped/stunned by Firpo and Carpentier isn't any worse than Frazier getting hurt and dropped twice by Bonavena or having his knees buckle vs Joe Bugner/Manuel Ramos.
Dempsey didn't fight those guys after barely ten pro bouts. Of course you know that, but choose not to mention it as you overrate your hero. Dempsey would have been slaughtered by either Frazier or Ali.
Thanks, saved me some typing. :salut: the facts are that Dempsey got beaten by the only true great he fought. He held up the title for years doing nothing.

I wonder how rosy the, "facts," would be for Joe Frazier had he had approx. twice as many career bouts as he did, and didnt face a true great until his penultimate fight?

Tom Gibbons wasnt great, BTW?

Joe has a hell of a lot more amateur fights. And as a gold medal winner would have had money men backing him.

Only sayin'...cos I like both of them. Ali too.

Greats are greats.
