LBF to sue the BBBC
LBF to sue the BBBC
BBCs rolling sports blog is reporting that the LBF is to issue proceedings against the BBBC over the Haye v Chisora fight, but I can find no other details. Does anyone have any further info? Is it to do with anything said on Newsnight last night?
Another sorry episode in this messiest of tales in British boxing. I hope all involved (from both sides of the argument) reflect on how they have used their positions to drag the sport into this mess. Political willy-waving at its most juvenile.

I don't think this fight could have any more publicity!mfc_se15 wrote:Increased publicity of the fight at a guess!twenty six wrote:Suing them precisely for what ?

Intimidation of fighters according to the article. Its a fair point actually, a loophole was found, the BBBoC essentially lose, and starts throwing its weight around like a petulant child.

Whilst I don't agree with the fight, I completely agree that the BBBoC have made a monumental cock up in the way it's dealt with it.dandrews010 wrote:I don't think this fight could have any more publicity!mfc_se15 wrote:Increased publicity of the fight at a guess!twenty six wrote:Suing them precisely for what ?

Re: LBF to sue the BBBC
I wouldn't say a loophole was found because people have always know about the limitations of the board and how alternatively licensed boxing can be staged, its just that nobody has bothered to do it on such a large scale before.dandrews010 wrote:I don't think this fight could have any more publicity!mfc_se15 wrote:Increased publicity of the fight at a guess!twenty six wrote:Suing them precisely for what ?

The board's rule has always been to suspend the license of anyone involved in unlicensed boxing and it is merely doing what it has always done. There is no difference between Ryan Rowlingson losing his license for working the corner of a boxer on an unlicensed show at a Rotherham night club and someone losing their license for being involved in this unlicensed show.
The problem is that legally, what the board have always done, could now put them up sh*t creek. This is not a good thing though. If we let LBF or any other body have the power to stage regular shows on these shores then boxing will become a bigger mess than it already is. Anyone who is supporting FW, LBF etc on this matter is supporting the long-term death of boxing as we know it in this country.

This just stinks of Bunny the snake
And as anybody with an ounce of brain will know he is pulling the strings at the LBF and they just bow down to the one who shall not be named.
Re: LBF to sue the BBBC
On another note, why isn't the fight, and the card, listed on the BoxRec schedule? Does that mean that BoxRec are taking a dim view on the fight a la Sky?
Re: LBF to sue the BBBC
It is licensed, just not by the BBBoC?Wake up call wrote:

Re: LBF to sue the BBBC
In principle neither do I. The BBBoC should be looking at ways to stop it happening in future, not throw their toys out of the pram and threaten everybody associated with this particular show.Poncey wrote: Whilst I don't agree with the fight, I completely agree that the BBBoC have made a monumental cock up in the way it's dealt with it.

If the charge is intimidation, isn't it a matter for the individual boxers to decide whether to raise an action ?
What's that got to do with the LBF ?

Regarding this, do all the other undercard boxers now have Luxembourg licences too? If not how can the Lux Fed take action on behalf of non members?twenty six wrote:If the charge is intimidation, isn't it a matter for the individual boxers to decide whether to raise an action ?

Re: LBF to sue the BBBC
Interesting talking about who is pulling strings at the LBF. They proudly declared that they approved the fight by an 8-4 vote, yet according to their website they only have 7 members of their committee.

Re: LBF to sue the BBBC
Unlicensed merely means "non-BBBofC". EBF, IBA etc all issue licenses but are referred to as "unlicensed". The LBF is on the same footing as those bodies. If a boxer takes part in an EBF show, for example, the board will suspend his license. There is no difference in that and what they have said to the boxers considering going on the West Ham show.dandrews010 wrote:It is licensed, just not by the BBBoC?Wake up call wrote:

I would hazard a guess that you can assemble the names of the mystery members from the following anagram:

Have been away so not up to date with what is happening on the night - can anyone update me on who the undercard fighters are?
Re: LBF to sue the BBBC
The EBF & IBA are sanctioners, not commissions. Commissions issue licenses, and both fighters have been licensed by the LBF.Wake up call wrote:Unlicensed merely means "non-BBBofC". No the EBF and IBA are bodies which sanction, commission and control their own version of boxing. They also issue licenses. How they operate is in no way different to what the LBF are doing.JDC wrote:

This might give you a bit of understanding - http://www.secondsout.com/columns/andre ... its-future

These organisations are offering Mickey Mouse semi-pro licences, which aren't recognised by the EBU, WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO & IBO. That's why they are unsanctioned. They aren't deemed professional.Wake up call wrote:No the EBF and IBA are bodies which sanction, commission and control their own version of boxing. They also issue licenses. The LBF is recognised by the EBU (although, they have currently been suspended... pending an investigation of said fight). They are also a recognised by the major sanctioning bodies... WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO & IBO. (WBC has denounced the fight). Two of these sanctioning organisations have backed the fight by attaching one of their belts to it.
It has been licensed by a recognised board and sanctioned by two sanctioning bodies.

Only the WBA and WBO recognise this bill and if you think they add credibility then sorry you're as daft as you sound. They would recognise a cheese sandwich fighting a waffle for the Disney Club heavyweight title if they thought they could make money out of it.JDC wrote:These organisations are offering Mickey Mouse semi-pro licences, which aren't recognised by the EBU, WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO & IBO. Also Bruce Baker wants to use the LBF to stage "semi pro" and "white collar" shows in the future - he's on record as saying as much so what does that tell you about the LBF?
