Austrian and Australian titles
Austrian and Australian titles
There are two title fights listed as Austrian but they should be listed as Australian instead. They are Austrian middleweight 1897 and lightweight 1911.
Re: Austrian and Australian titles
Classing them as Australian title is incorrect. Both were Colony titles =New South Wales, Victoria etc now known as State titles.
All 1800's & most early 1900's should be changed accordingly...... to wherever it was contested.
The author of those results figured 'Colony' meant Australia, which at the time was a Colony of British Empire, but within the Colony was 6 seperate Colonies until 1901, when they collectivelly became States of Commonwealth of Australia. http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/mrlaneis ... lonies.htm
