Boxing commentary on tv

Post by lefty »

If there was a way of watching boxing without the commentary but still with the background noise ie the sound of the shots landing etc would you be interested? I would like it if the broadcasters gave you the option of watching fights with commentary or without. I know some will say just turn the sound down on your tv but that isnt the same. I would still like the background noise of the punches landing and everything else you can hear but just without the commentary on top! Surely they could do that if they wanted to? Maybe Ed Robinson is a guy who could answer that better than most.

I would have thought yours is the majority view. Always wanted it for football too, we know these sports so don't need someone to tell us about them but don't want to lose the atmosphere etc.

yeah i understand that argument too. I would just like to be given to choice. I just think that quite often its hard to watch and judge a fight objectively because a lot of the time you end up being swayed by the commentary and especially in this country you get a lot of biased commentary towards the home fighter. Say when Brook fights Jones tonight its most likely they'll focus on all the positives that Kell is doing but leave out a lot of the good stuff Jones is providing. Obviously if Kell knocks him out in the first round it wont matter!

It should be similar to the red button functions. There is no real reason why the top stations can't do it.

With you on this. Jim Lampley and Jonny Nelson really do my nut it. Funkin pea brains. I'm sure most would go for it, perhaps cutting these big heads out of a job in the future so I don't think it will happen.

Shutting up Rawling would be nice too. I know Steve Holdsworth isn't everyones cup of tea but he's one of the most enjoyable to actually listen to

Completely agree with you, the option to cut out commentary would be nice.

Have to say, always been a fan of Rawlings however lately he's started to get on my tits! Not sure if its because he's got more annoying or its because i hear him working on more fights than he used to.

I agree with all of you guys as well. I was thinking exactly the same thing watching Rees vs Mathews. The commentators talk for no reason, the majority of the time.

Is Derry holding Jim Watt and Adam Smith to ransom over something? They're far too biased towards him tonight.

Matthews has got a lot of bottle and heart but he's chinny and thats why he is a good domestic level fighter but cant progress from that.
