You guys think that Camacho was already afraid of Chavez before they even fought? and do u guys think that Camacho didnt want a remach with Chavez because of the beating he received?

Chavez came out fast that night, none of that'slow-starter' crap, and he just ran Camacho out of the ring. See, Camacho is not a good defensive fighter. People think he is but that is because of his moving around; the only time he is hard to hit is when he is out of reach and can't hit you back either. Also, he relies on his hand speed intimidating opponents into not throwing punches. Chavez stayed on top of him and made him miss and was very accurate with his own punches. There was no rematch because nobody had any interest in seeing that again.

I think Camacho underestimated Chavez and once he felt Chavez' power he was afraid. As for the rematch, odds are Camacho was afraid, and well, Chavez beat him up and down that ring fairly easily. It wasn't a close fight so everyone probably figured Chavez would win again.

During the pre-fight interviews, Camacho kept insulting Chavez. Chavez showed class by trying to keep it civil - I think he first responded that it's a good match-up and should be a good fight.
After more insults by Camacho, Chavez finally had enough and said "I'm going to give him a beating", which he did.

C'mon Camacho made that fight with his trash talkin. He was gracious in defeat and Chavez understood that he was hypin the fight. Camacho is New Yorican and brash ... what'd you expect him to do? Besides he had every right to be brazen ... he had skills that you haven't seen matched very often.

Oh yeah, movin around as you called it ... that's part of being a good defensive fighter and so is having an offensive edge such as blinding hand speed to make opponents have to cnsider that when they would otherwise wade right in.

Afraid? Hell no. If he wasn't afraid of Leonard or Duran or Trinidad or De La Hoya then ....

..okay..hector got beat up by some damn good fighters... and in at least a couple of those fights he could have quit...he was slick enough to make it look okay...but he stayed in there and took it.

for once i have nothing else to say.

This fight led me to respect Camacho, which I hadn't really done before. He stood in and took his beating and, at the end, when he no longer had the legs to try and keep away, he stood and fought as best he could. Chavez was not to be denied that night.

And speaking of grace. Do you guys remember when Camacho was going to fight DLH and Camacho bet his forelock against DLH? After DLH beat him handily, he let Hector keep that tuft of hair. If I were DLH then, I would have made him cut that off. You make a bet, you pay.
But Oscar showed rare grace in a fighter as young as he was at the time.
