Boxrec trade off...
Boxrec trade off...
Okay, for all our moaning…about 15 round fights…too many titles…too few fights…everything skewed towards the name fighters…fights stopped too soon…fights not stopped soon enough…corrupt officials…big fights never happening…
…we have boxrec and the internet…
If it was a trade off…no boxing on the internet at all…no fights…no reporting…no forums…zero. For whatever you want from the old days then would you trade and what would your terms be…
In the UK we often missed out on the best American and international talent and if we did see the fighters it was likely highlights rather than the full fight. But we had boxing on the main channels and the British title actually meant a lot.
To lose boxrec and the internet what would you need to compensate? But you can only ask for stuff as it has been in your lifetime.
Or would you rather keep the internet and have boxing as it is now?
I’d want 15 rounds…
The WBA and WBC titles…
Boxing on terrestrial…
Midweek TV fights…
Saturday afternoon boxing on TV…
Same day weigh ins…
Rematches for all majority and split decisions (okay this is my own rule)…

Re: Boxrec trade off...
Interesting premise.
To clarify, are you saying whatever we want, in exchange for no forums or Boxing talk on the net, or no actual internet at all?
I would sacrifice all the reports, and the forums, yes. I wouldnt sacrifice the net itself.

I would personally swap the internet out, (In a clandestine deal with Beelzebub, trading away the internet for all humanity) that I might personally possess Joe Frazier's left hook.

Fight Night Weigh-Ins
One Universal Title per Weight Division
RING magazine to be cheaper & have two issues a month to keep up to date
Major Championship bouts to be on network television
Pay Per View at a consumer friendly cost
To have the original eight weight classes
15 round bouts
Less regulation on the sport (leave it to the state keep the feds out!)

but thank you am glad to be back
Re: Boxrec trade off...
Nothing to do with boxing can appear on the internet...which would then render it redundant anyway...but it would still be there...Goodnight, Irene wrote:Interesting premise.

Such a super power comes with responsibilities though, Buzz. Like Peter Parker and Clark Kent you have to use it for the good of mankind.BoxBuzz wrote:I would personally swap the internet out, (In a clandestine deal with Beelzebub, trading away the internet for all humanity) that I might personally possess Joe Frazier's left hook.

Tell me you will use that left hook on the pea-brained noggin of Collins/Giancarlo and I'm all in.
Might actually do the nut job a bit of good.

I know, for a 60 year old man I am incredibly childish but no ones perfect. Except Joe!

"Incredibly childish."
Says the guy whose idea of wit is re-writing someone's posts over and over? LOL. What an oblivious dipshit. Nothing for us to do but bask in the beautiful irony

You obviously haven't noticed him crying with frustration each time I do it.
That alone makes it a good thing.
Plus he's so dim he can't even figure out how it is done.

Less regulation? The sport has very little now and is the root of many of the problems of the sport.
Re: Boxrec trade off...
Man, for sure I would like to go back to the way things were in the seventies /early eighties.
Across the board. Whatever was going on thats the way I liked it.
Fights on the tube saturday afternoon, occasionally on a Friday night.
I even like having to go to a theatre for those closed circuit fights.
I don't really like all those titles but there was something about it that was laughably freakin larcenous. (Its boxing, what the hell?).
Gyms all over the place.
Ring magazine,(Rings around the world) anyone remember that section?
Same day weigh ins were cool. I participated in a bunch of those. Hit the scale, then go load up.
Many other things,it was much different in those days as far as popularity goes also.
I guess I'm just a bit nostalgic
As far as the internet goes,if it looks at me wrong I could knock it right out. Wouldn't miss it at all.

Re: Boxrec trade off...
Exactly. Why not have one standard set of rules worldwide? Fighters could travel with confidence that things will be handled exactly the same wherever they go. Fighters couldn't travel to take advantage of lazy/corrupt/dangerous administrationsAmbling Alp wrote:Less regulation? I love your ideas but…life would be less without reading your posts…about Quick Tillis etc… It’s the same with many other people who post here.Expug wrote:Man, for sure I would like to go back to the way things were in the seventies /early eighties.

So these forums are great. Okay, you get some cranky people, but mostly it’s good.
Re: Boxrec trade off...
Okay, to lose the Internet, I would want:
1. Weigh Ins the day before the fights.
2. I don't mind 4 World Champions (WBC,WBA,WBO,IBF) but absolutely no more....
3. The Ring Magazine being cheaper, have more pages and have two issues per month and frequently be up-to-date.
4. World Title fights to be shown practically every weekend on National Television (free-to-watch)
5. All boxers should be tested for PEDs before and after every fight card.
6. Consistency between the 4 boxing bodies.
7. Consistency on the sentences for cheating.
8. World Champions should have two mandatory fights per calendar year (Jan-Dec)
9. Eradicate the Interim Champions, Super Champions, Champion-In-Recess and Silver Champions.
10. Eradicate the various Intercontinental titles and International titles.
Well that's my take anyway.

Re: Boxrec trade off...
I would just want 1 champion for each division and back to or close to the original divisions, this would really return value to the term Boxing Champion
