next opponent for fury

Everyone reckons it has to be a step up for fury next and i agree
Was maddalone that poor an opponent for a 24 year old in his 19th pro contest? probably not
Did maddallone match up to the boasts from fury? Did it represent a real step forward from chisora 4 fights ago? was it as big a test as a match up with david price? Almost certainly no to those 3.
But those are questions for another thread.

What i want to know is what do we expect from tyson next?
A step up we say. what do we mean when we say a step up?
Some want him in with an unbeaten, genuinely exciting, dangerous opponent. but is that the best thing for him at this stage.
Or should he be looking at a tough, fairly high ranked fighter, whos been in with some of the bigs names. a genuine challenge, a fight where he'll really have to work (someone better than maddallone) but maybe someone older that he is still expected to beat.
This more the kind of fighter i'd be looking at next

I think a logical fight in a sense would be fellow behemoth and bronze medalist Kevin McBride, who was once upon a time the Irish HW champion. Mind you Fury has called out Adamek, and Adamek has fought McBride. Is it a step up? No, but it would be at least a viable defense of the Irish HW championship between two giant Irishmen.

HOWEVER, I would like to see Fury fight the winner of Haye/Chisora, or fight Robert Helenius, to solidify Fury's position in Europe. Lmao, actually I havent been this excited over a heavyweight in a long while, there are ALOT of potential match ups I think alot of people would want to see Fury be apart of, especially a grudge match between Fury and Price.

It's a difficult one for Hennessey. I think all his eggs are in one basket with Fury really, so he's going to need to keep him winning for as long as possible. I would expect another American of a similar standard to be honest so that Showtime keep interested. Maybe a Dominic Guinn type. Durable but loses.

It is all about timing.

The Klits are getting older and there are not that many other top level heavys coming through. If Fury continues to develop as he has in the last year or 2 then there I wouldn't be surprised to see him win a World Title in a couple of years.

At that point (a white heavy - and Irish (for the Americans)) - will be worth mega $ millions. They can't risk that just to keep a load of people on an internet forum happy.

As long as Hennessy keeps the ratings up for Channel 5 they'll be happy regardless who he fights so it'd have to be match ups that interest the general public. He should line up an Ibragimov or Guinn someone in that mould for Hennessy's November date on Ch5. A decent level heavy who he will get rounds against but who won't have the punch to overly worry him. Get Audley on the undercard, stage a confrontation between the two on the night and have them fight in the new year. Big ratings and not the hardest route, then maybe a Euro title tilt in Ireland outdoors next summer.

Sure we all want to see him fight Price but it aint going to happen soon.

im happy for fury to be nurtured for a few more fights, the haters are just so unfair on him. todays review of his fight in boxing news was shocking. no mention of the skills he displayed, the improvement hes made or how well prepared he was.

I'd like to see him in with some1 with a bit more height.

i've never seen pianeta. but a young, unbeaten, tall, southpaw sounds like a lot of risks all in one basket.

I think a EBU European title fight & WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title fight with Robert Helenius would make perfect sense - He's not that good technically and I think Fury would beat him.

Helenius has only had 17 pro fight so is not that experianced

failing that someone like Eddie Chamber or Tony Thompson to boost his appeal to the wider audience over the pond

People need to get a grip, Tyson has only just turned 24 and is still a baby in Heavyweight terms.

Glad his team have slowed him down since his win over Chisora with lesser fights against the likes of Maddalone as he's improving with each fight and will be ready for a world title shot 12 to 18 months from now when he'll still only be 25.

I'd like to see him fight a former world champion or a recent (2010-now) title challenger.

Former champions: Chagaev, Peter, Holyfield, Rahman, Haye, Liakhovich, Briggs
Recent challengers: Harrison, Huck, Chambers, Thompson, Mormeck, Adamek, Solis, Sosnokwski, Boswell

I'd look for the cheapest or weakest from that lot and try to get them for Fury.

If you're just a boxing fan, you'd want to see him in with somebody who can make him work hard, even put him on the seat of his pants the way Neven Pajkic did. I don't think he learned much from that human punching bag he fought the other day. Who? Lots of boxing-giraffes around these days. Pick somebody that won't just put the ear-muffs on and let Fury wail on him 'til he drops. McBride? Sure, why not. What about the Fighting Finn Robert Helenius? There are good match-ups to be made. Trouble is getting these divas into the ring against someone who can fight back.

Since he beat Chisora he's fought a bunch of bus drivers, all old men that aren't just has-beens, complete never were's.

He looked good against Maddalone, but he needs a serious opponent next, for his own credibility.

I agree that he is only a baby etc etc but lets be honest the opponent at the weekend was a massive step backwards, someone 7 inches smaller with not a bit of head movement. I go with more learning fights but better standard than Maddalone.

i doubt it will be someone dangerous, so of the americans id go for dominik quinn or damian wills

or possibly danie venter if he wins the last man standing in SA..hes 6ft4 and on a good run atm.

He did pretty well in Prizefighter though. I thought he was unlucky to lose to Johnson in the semi-final.

He's not the best next opponent that Fury could fight, but he'd be a decent name to have on Fury's record.
