On Boxrec it says 1941-8-31 in Denver, CO:
Young Joe Louis (Jack Chase) KO's Roy (Jack) Gillespie, who dies
I've found and inserted: 1941-7-2 in Denver, CO:
Young Joe Louis (Gregorio Gonzalez) KO's Billie Gillespie, who dies

I think the odds of these actually being two different fights are pretty small. Does anyone know for sure? And if the same fight is meant, which one was it?

Well, you don't say where you found that 2d entry, which refers to Young Joe Louis as Gregorio Gonzales. I seem to recall this may have come from a list of deaths in boxing.

Unless you ahve a newspaper report, use the Aug 31 date
