Well Done Scott Dann

It was pretty much a 50/50 fight as we predicted, but Dann just had the slight edge all the way through and deserved the win, well done Scott :TU:

Disappointing fight, more posturing than actual work. I had Dann winning 116-112. Nowhere near as good as I was expecting, poor effort by both.

elcock's effort for an away fighter was very poor wasn't it. he was just waiting for that big counter to take dann out and it never came.

neither r going anywhere above domestic level. kinda what we all thought before the fight.

Strange. I've just got back from the fight and, while I have quite a few notes that read 'scrappy', I thouroghly enjoyed it. Must be the live experience I s'pose - there was a cracking atmosphere. Not the best fight, and Dann just didn't look at 100%, but a good crowd went a long way towards making up for it. I had Dann by 3.

As for him going further, well I think he can put in better, cleaner work than that (he showed it in flashes), and the little I've seen of the likes of Sylvester and Hakkar, they don't really look anything to write home about. Let's get Dann in with a decent European and find out.

The very very decent Sebastian Sylvester is the current EBU champion.

I think Dann should be forgetting the British scene now and look at fringe world level.

Morrade Haakar, Howard Eastman, Richard Williams (has he died?), and Sylvester would be on my shortlist.

I think Sylvester would beat Eastman (who I know longer think is top ten).

Let him move on to the EU titles, or fringe world when he has conquered Britian first. His title defenses are all against people with less than 15 fights, and no more than 4 or 5 ko's.

Dann didn't even look that powerful last night, and takes too many shots. Lockett would destry him, he has more power, better chin, better record, better skills.

I wanna see this fight happen!

I can see your point, but not really sure what Lockett has done to really say he is much better than Elcock. Not really sure he has much better skills, his defensive work isn't the greatest.

I agree he is next in line now, but not sure if he has done enough to warrant being classed as better than Elcock. For me, the Farnell win is better than anything than Gary has done at Middleweight.

I agree though that Dann looked quite beatable even at a domestic level of Middleweight and I would think he would still struggle when he moved up to the next level, but with the lonsdale belt on his mantlepiece secured - what is the point defending the title.

As for the fight, it was okay but agree with Nick assesment a little too much postering going on. Although Dann won, I thought Elcock will be feeling a bit sick that he didn't do more because I think he had the beating of him.

I hope this isn't the end of Wayne, I would like to see him (should Dann vacate) fight Lockett for the vacant title. I cannot think of two more deserving canditates (of course if Williams and Eastman don't want to get involved).

As for the chief support, can't say I was overly impressed with Haskins. Fights like Naz, but I don't think he has the handspeed to pull it off. My first impression of him was "more James Hare than Naseem". Sure he'll get titles, but I would favour Dale Robinson over him.

Interesting fight and i thought it was pretty close despite how the SKY team were pushing towards Dann "dominating" the exchanges, i never thought he dominated anything in there. Elcock was a bit too ponderous and lacked accuracy when in close but the way he landed some beefy right hands makes you wonder what would happen if Lockett was in there with Dann instead.

The fight proved what i always thought about Elcock's loss to Murphy, Wayne is not chinny at all and Murphy caught him with a good single shot high on the head and that an hurt anyone when landed correctly. Elcock looked better when he was backing Dann up but was leaping in a bit too much and when he tried to land a right to the body he left himself open to Dann's hook. Dann was less predictable than Farnell whoch caused more problems for Elcock, when he fought Farnell he executed a solid gameplan and to be honest Farnell was always pretty one dimensional and predictable a sucker for a good jab.

All in all a good fight, not convinced by Haskins as yet, his style was very Naz but you can't gauge anything against a guy like Del Spencer. I don't think Spencer's heart is in it anymore.

The other kid Guthrie looked good early on with his body shots and hooks but paid the price for apoor defence and got smashed out of there, who knows where he will end up. I thought SKY were over critical of the ref who jumped in at the right time, Guthrie took a meaty right hand, left hook, right uppercut and seriously disorientated. McCrory forgets when he says "Maybe just a split second more" that the ref cannot watch the replay three times and then make a decision at the end of it.

And Michael Grant well my first real viewing of him but you can't take much from it, SKY could have cut the chit chat and showed us round 2, can't judge anything from half of a round.

I was there last night and i have to say both fighters looked a little flat, i do try to stay impartial (although i am not) but i was quite upbeat all through the fight, The Sanigars did'nt look like there man took it convincingly, but in an opponents back yard you do have to rip it from them ,would the result have been the same had the fight been in the front of Elcocks home fans (who i have to say made more noise throughout the fight than Danns), i doubt it, the fight could have gone two rounds either way, thats why i love boxing, the guy next to me had Dann up by two, the guy behind had Elcock for the draw, good fight though, Even if we had to make a swift exit out of the back door)

Agree with both Steve's - both of 'em in there looked lethargic and unable to produce their best form. The crowd and pressure on both of them probably played a big part. I didn't see the whole fight but I was a little puzzled by how wide Glenn - and later the judges - scored it. From the short highlight flashes they showed at the end, Elcock was shipping in right hands willy nilly! :o Anyway, not going to take a proper view until I've seen every round...

On the undercard Dan Guthrie looked good in the first, a bit open when he opened up but otherwise a nice, controlled display. Then in the second he starts taking liberties with his defence and appears to go into kamikaze mode when in trouble! Not the end of the world by any means - work on how to handle being in trouble and generally keeping a tighter defence and he could be a good prospect at super-middle.

Didn't really see enough of Michael Grant, but he looked to have a good jab - nice snap, quite accurate.

The EU title have/will become vancant since Di Giacomo will fight Sylvester for the EBU belt. Abraham will fight Hakkar on oct 1st. In other EBU news, Tsypko will fight Chanet in France in november.

Must've been where you were sat, mate. After the ring intros I couldn't really hear you lot at all (I was sat on the opposite side to where the Elcock contingent seemed to be), and there was no real noise from my side - it all came from the tiered seating. Good atmosphere, anyway.

I was a bit dissapointed in Elcock, thought he could of threw more one two's, but then again im glad he is back in the middleweight mix and hope he stays involved in it for a while. He caught Dann with plenty of right hands but i couldnt help thinking that when he did throw combinations they where quite sloppy. Dann was nowhere near as explosive as usual but i suppose that goes with the step up in class.

Having now had time to digest the goings on at the weekend, I think Lockett would beat Dann. He just didnt look that confident against a guy with a dig, he's been impressive at British title level up until the weekend but he looked scared of getting knocked out. Against someone like Lockett who can bang hard for domestic level I think there's a strong chance Dann will get stopped.

Whatever happens it will be a good fight while it lasts.

Elcock needed Dann to walk forward all night but the champion wouldn't oblige, instead he tried to mostly counter punch which he isn't really that good at, hence the somewhat dull spectacle.

If Lockett really is looking the goods again I'd pick him to stop both those guys.

I'm not that impressed with Michael Grant at this stage, he's got some moves but fights too sloppy at times.

Michael had only a couple of weeks notice, he actually found out while on holiday. not a easy fight either with Judex Meemea who has a win over Ashley Theophane who is no mug (Yes Theophane lost last night but it was a controversial decision in my eyes, I had Theophane winning!)

He looked good in his first fight against spoiler Kehoe so it will be interesting to see who he gets in October on Joe Pyle and Jon Feld's show. Definately got the talent and look at the class of opposition compared with his nemesis Mr Khan

Yeah to be fair that opponent wasn't bad. I've just never been a fan of Grant's reaching, semi unorthodox style. He'll really have to improve imo.

I was ringside for Dann-Elcock fight too and really enjoyed it. It was rough and both seemed reluctant to fully comitt to a punch up. I think they both knew one big mistake could cost one of them the fight.

As it was I had Dann edging it in a close fight. Elcock should definitely stick around to have another crack at the British title. On another night it might have been him with the belt around his waist.

I'd love to see Dann defend the British title again against Richard Williams or Gary Lockett. The Williams fight in particular can probably be made. With Sky TV now taking an interest in Dann, surely an EBU crack in Pllmouth is viable too.

think both men were wary of the others power and Dann being a southpaw can make for a messy fight.

Scott himself was pretty honest in his summing up of his nights work, there is better to come but in the meantime well done Scott for winingh the lonsdale outright. A decent achievement to say the least.

Agree witht he post above that says lockett and elcock should face off, Wayne is far form done and i think there is alot of overating of Lockett done on this board.

By no means a foregone conclusion.

Scott then free to chase the Euro title and maybe give the winne of elcock . lockett a shot.

Nice bit of british boxing eveolultion could take place there at Euro level assuming they all fight to the best of their ability.

Thought Guthruie was unlucky if he had taken a knee he may well have managed to make the end of the round he was pretty lucid and ok when they sat him down.

Instinct i guess cant be taught and experience will help.

thought haskins looked as good as he could, you can only beat the fella in front of you.
