Why don't more UK heavies try Bigger's Better?

Post by oliverfennell »

Boxrec's own Lee Kellett (username "kells") boxed in Bigger's Better last week for the second time. First one, he was unfortunate to be drawn against Oleksey Mazikin and in the second one, he lost a close quarter final.

I wonder why other British heavies haven't fancied it. It looks very winnable for boxers with a bit of pro experience at any level or even those who haven't turned pro yet but have good amateur credentials. The entrants can be a mixed bag but again, it's a very winnable tournament with a decent prize. (I think 25,000 euros to the winner)

I assume their involvement would be frowned upon if they held a BBBofC licence as these are unsanctioned shows.

I don't think it's harmed Kellett, as he has boxed for the BBBC since his first Bigger's Better appearance.

Also, since it's timely, note that Boxrec records these "unlicensed" tournaments.

It must be licensed by somebody if it's on TV.

Looks like it's a Cyprus prizefighter (except they grouping 175-201 as one division).... I don't understand the concept of a card not being licensed just because it's not Britain or America.... why can't you live in one country and be licensed from another.

IIRC Cyprus doesn't have a boxing board.

Often catch it on Eurosport. Can be entertaining, if a little raw. A lot of the guys are more experienced in other codes of fighting and it shows. I remember one Polish lad who wasn't the greatest boxer but he had an almighty ko punch on him.

At least a couple of times the final has been a draw, so they have a round 4.
