Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
How ironic that he should have actually taken a leaf out of Kell Brooks book !!!!
Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
It was a bit of a shock. I've only seen Garcia before in the Morales and wasn't impressed. I thought that Khan would win it with his straight fast shots over Garcia's slow looping shots.
That's what Khan gets for predicting a KO. He was recklessly aggressive. I agree that he simply doesn't know what to do when he gets caught saying that I was surprised that the first KD which landed on the neck with the side of the glove did so much damage so there is a undeniable chin issue.
He relys on his speed rather than defensive skill & ring generalship. Wlad didn't have either of those once so it's not the end neccesarily.

He relies exclusively on his speed. Or should do.Shirow wrote:It was a bit of a shock. I've only seen Garcia before in the Morales and wasn't impressed. I thought that Khan would win it with his straight fast shots over Garcia's slow looping shots.

If you can't survive what an ancient, bloated Morales took on the chin maybe even Ariza's special potions can't help you!Hagler2002 wrote:No Alex Ariza either for this fight, no smoke without fire.

I'd say he should retire, he has enough money in the bank, and is still a celebrity for TV shows.

What i find alarming is just how unsteady Khan looks on his feet when he gets clouted heavy ,i mean when hes hurt he reminds me of a puppet thats had his strings cut .

Hearn's talking bollocks, he would jump at the chance. It would be a 'Massive' fight over here big money maker and Brook must really fancy his chances now.Wales wrote:Hearn said No after the fight last night. Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
Khan has no chin, the end. We all knew this would happen, the cracks have been papered over, anyone with a big dig will chin him - that will be the story of his career - you can't be a top level boxer and not have a chin.

He needs to find a trainer he will listen to cos he is not listening to Roach. he keeps wanting to get into wars instead of boxing. he didnt listen against maidana, petersen and now garcia. He should either change the way he boxers and listen to roach or get out of boxing.

Yep it's plain to see either Roach's instructions aren't getting through to Khan or he is teaching Khan with the wrong style/tactics.smoggy7188 wrote:He needs to find a trainer he will listen to cos he is not listening to Roach. he keeps wanting to get into wars instead of boxing. he didnt listen against maidana, petersen and now garcia. Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
Back to the thread question, I am actually really not too sure where Khan goes from here. I guess in reality he has to take the route that Ortiz took and stay in the big fights for now.
I can't see him going back to a lower class and re-building that way, they'll just have to choose carefully and avoid punchers again for a while. It's a merry-go-round with Khan that I can just see repeating until he quits. He struggles to avoid being hit and has a weak chin, at the top level those are some pretty bad ingedients, I think even someone like Brook gives him massive problems and I think Brook still has so much work to do.

Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
Khan has had three trainers and with the exception of the Kotelnik fight has fought with the same reckless abandon throughout his career. His chin just isn't good enough and Amir's career is likely to be wound up in the next 18 months. It's a shame because he is so talented and brave.
Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
Move upto Welterweight and have a title fight with Malignaggi, Paulie would bite Khan's hand off for a rematch and it sells either New York or England.
Give himself a go at welterweight, if Paulie hurts him and beats him which is not impossible then its time to call it a day, if he wins, he can get himself a couple of more fights at championship level before retiring, however his punch resistance will always be his achilles heel, there is no escaping that.

Re: Should Khan retire
Great post Davie, a more balanced honest assessment, then some on here. I believe Amir could win a world title again against more of a non puncher, because he has great speed, high punch stats and good skills, but he will always be at risk from a big punch, that's for sure, he also need's to learn how to fight in the pocket, fight close inside and cross up now and again, when he gets hurt, he does the wrong things like back peddling on unsteady legs, with chin up in the air and weak guard or he starts winging shots back, with hands down, on the verge of being hit with one more big shot. In the fight with Garcia he needed to fight in and out, with fast punches in bunches and also side to side, coming in at angles, but instead he stayed in range with fighter who punches hard and fights well in the pocket, Amir was out boxing Garcia at times, but because of the way he fought, he was on the verge of getting caught by a hook and he did.davie wrote:Let me start by stating categorically, I am an Amir Khan fan. I am not one of the haters on here and don't particularly care if he is a bit arrogant and full of his own hype.
He is an exciting and very talented British boxer and I support him 100% every time he fights.
but I really am worried that it's only a matter of time before khan leaves that ring on a stretcher. it's a similar thing to enzo maccaraneli, i worry every time i see him fight
he gets hurt in fights and he gets hurt bad, that chin is made of glass and the way he fought through it against maidana and peterson only paper over the cracks.
some watched the maidana fight and said it showed he had heart and proved his chin isn't that bad. theres no doubting the kids heart but it just highlighted again how fragile that chin is and it was part luck part bravery that carried him through those last few rounds
he has all the ability and physical attributes to beat guys like maidana and peterson or garcia for that matter, but this is going to keep on happening fight after fight after fight.
nelson, mcguigan and mcrory said after the fight that garcia fought a great fight, no he didn't!
khan had him seriously under the cosh from the first bell until he landed that left in the 3rd
they said he caught him with a great punch, no he didn't!
he caught him with a sweet left but that shouldn't do that to a top level fighter and anyone like peterson or maidana would have walked through that punch.
they talked about amirs style and getting dragged into wars. now i agree with that, he should do more to avoid getting dragged into scraps. but unlike the peterson and maidana fights where he got dragged in late on when he was tiring and his movement was slowing down, he didn't seem to be moving enough for me from the outset.
but again i don't think a more defensive style is going to solve this problem, it will help, but it won't cure it.
with the best will in the world and the most accomplished defensive style, there is no way you will get through a full fight without getting clipped with punches like that left hook he took tonight, he can become more defensive, he can improve his footwork and movement but it wont be enough IMO
even mayweather will ship a shot or two like that one tonight. and that was all it took tonight, 1 shot and not the hardest by any stretch of the imagination. and khan was back doing his bambi on ice routine.
i haven't seen many fighters who look so totally lost when they get clipped. his legs turn to absolute jelly and the look in his eyes is completely gone. after the first knockdown, Kenny Bayliss counted 9, then asked khan to raise his hands, if i could read khans mind i'm guessing he was thinking "hands?"
he honestly didn't look like he knew what the referee was asking him.
there was a question mark over the timing of the stoppage. if anything khan had recovered and looked the most composed of his 3 knockdowns. but i will not argue with the stoppage because he should have stopped at one of the first 2 knockdowns, in fact there were 2 other occasions where he managed to stay on his feet but he was that far gone that bayliss would have been within his rights to wave it off. and there is no doubt in my mind if this fight had carried on, despite khans slight recovery, it was only a matter of time before amir ended up on the canvas again.
i think khan could come back from this, he could win another world title, he has excelent boxing skills, great hand speed and techniqiue, but this will happen again, he'll survive some scares but ultimately he'll get caught again, he cannot go throughout his career without this happening over and over again.
it's harsh, and i know a young lad who has lived boxing his entire life wont heed this advice, but for me khan should chuck it before he gets badly hurt. i think it's only a matter of time and it would be horrible to see. it's heartbreaking to see a guy with so much talent being undone by one critical flaw, but for me that flaw is going to get him in serious trouble one day
Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
I think Freddie Roach is one of the best trainers ever in the sport but has far too much on his plate having to jet across the US and beyond looking after Manny, Khan, JCC Jr and countless others. All that work would barely be manageable for a 100% healthy guy and I hate to bring it up but surely his troubles with Parkinson's means this is far too much of a workload to give each fighter enough time. The baffling Khan sparring sessions on the Countdown show going hell for leather where Roach wasn't in attendance speaks for itself.
Khans loss is also big blow for Sky who are left with Matchroom's Froch, Brook and Barker as their marquee names![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)

Re: SPOILER - Next move for Amir Khan
Would beat Malignaggi again, would be a good move for Amir Khan to get back up there, also it would make him a two weight champ, I don't think punch power would be an issue this time. Khan is still only 25, still young. Forget Mayweather, Ortiz, Berto or Pacman.GlobalBox wrote:Move upto Welterweight and have a title fight with Malignaggi, Paulie would bite Khan's hand off for a rematch and it sells either New York or England.

Yeah but the 45 unbeaten wont matter because people will see they are against noone and again theres 1 ko in all of those wins.iamasadlittleboy wrote:leftysreturn wrote:I dont think he'd get away with fighting Cuenca, a guy that has got just one knockout on his record in 40 odd fights. Had it easy? He is 25. Look at what he has managed to do already and who he has fought. I remember when he and Mitchell had an apparent rivalry. Khan has had it ten times tougher than Mitchell has yet I bet you wouldn't call him spoilt or protected...jimcook wrote:khan can go back to fighting old men and midgets. he always looks good there. spoilt bully whos had it far too easy all his career. brainless . good to see him get his just desserts.
Brook is an option, although for me, not a good one from Khan's point of view. He needs to take stock, change trainers, attempt to make the necessary adjustments ( don't think he can ) and build back up slowly.

I think Khan is still a good name in this country, but I also think they'll match him very carefully in his next 2 fights, which will be at welter. It would not suprise me to see his welter debut against Matt Hatton.
